Question, Kind of confused, I have an old HP Compaq laptop that the hardware is slowly dying and I wish to host that machine on Virtualbox on a Windows 7 Dell. Do I need to get Compaq file sets or Dell file sets? I tried to host the XP machine on my dell, and its telling me it needs to be activated, since the hardware has been changed. The key currently in the machine is the Compaq OEM key. sorry for being a newb.
You guys are awesome! worked perfectly! Had to dig around the bios of the physical machine to get the correct info, but about 5 minutes of working on it and VOILA ! Much appreciated.
Friends... I am having problem changing VL to OEM with this tool. It worked perfect few times I used it before but now it's giving me headache. When I run the software on VMware (it worked before) and select option 1 to display CRC and check for SLP string the black window pops up momentarily and disappears. I have no idea how to proceed. Any suggestions? Since it s a virtual machine installation I can not really boot in to the dos and use a tool available on this forum to get the correct crc. How can I proceed? The bios in my vmware is modified with asus string. Thank you
In fact, you can. VMWare is a Virtualizer, not an Emulator. A Virtualizer emulates hardware. So you could insert the DOS CD (or just the ISO) into the virtual CD/DVD drive and then boot DOS - no problem. For the most cases, it's sufficient to just open a command line from XP (cmd.exe, looks like DOS prompt) and run the OEMSCAN tool manually.
Im trying to move a hard-disk from a Medion to an IBM system. Medion MB died. When booting on the ibm mb it asks for activation, i booted PE, installed OEMBIOSCHANGER but this does not work. Color of dos box changes, thats all. How can i get the oembios files changed?
Did you verify that the IBM system has OEM:SLP 1.0 string in BIOS/DMI? If yes, did you get and use the correct OEMBIOS set (CRC)?
Yes, the IBM was already running XP, installed with bioschanger. just took this disk off and hooked up the one from the Medion. Due to that this now asks for activation, i have to boot with PE to get access to the disk. So question is - does bioschanger also work when booted from a PE Boot-CD instead from the internal hardisk?
If you just cannot log in due to unactivated Windows use the Safe Mode* - there activation isn't checked and OEMBIOS Changer should work without issue. *True Safe Mode, not the one with Network.
I dont mean to sound ignorant or anything but a few step by step and more information about what to do would be nice Thank you anyways.
This link just takes you to the The Windows XP OEMBIOS Archive which does not provide a link to download the VLK and OEMBIOS changer. Please someone revise the original post because it links to a file at Sendspace that has been deleted. If you want to search for the file using a FTP search engine or Google here are the file names: XPvlk-to-OEMBIOS_changer_installer.exe OEMBIOS_changer_installer.exe I found the latter at cpe-96-28-98-91.kya.res.rr.com/External/Laptop/Flash Backup/uofl drive/OEMBIOS changer installer.exe The description of the installer is 'Oembios changer for WHS/XP pro/XP home' This link appears to be dead: 82.239.144.183/program/Windows%207/Activer/Outils-Softs/XPvlk-to-OEMBIOS_changer_installer.exe As I am not allowed to post links you will have to insert ftp:// before each link I have provided.
