Post 1 always has the latest version. You can also click the links in my signature for a few of the more recent versions, as well as a couple add-on's that are commonly suggest. Do not click Use Download Manager. To eliminate virus attack, use Download through Browser Setup a few folders to make the backup easier. I backup to an External "Passport" so I can duplicate the project anywhere. Read Readme and Workaround.txt The 2 files are in your WMC64 folder. The Preparation Section is NOT optional. Click on v12 in my signature, read the first 30-40 pages, myself and others have posted our success's and failure's during the install process. Also read the first 30-40 pages of v11....... v11 and v12 have many similar steps. Use the Search Thread button for searching details.
Backup, System Image, File Copy I was thinking about trying PowerShell to do a backup. PowerShell Run as Admin Code: wbadmin start backup -backupTarget:F: -include:C: -allCritical -quiet Looks like it worked... What are we using for file copy these days? In the past, I think I used xcopy, my favorite was robocopy Decided to try RoboCopy since someone took the time to include it in Win10. Code: RoboCopy C:\Win10Project F:\Win10Project /mir just one dir skipped... wonder which one?
I used XXcopy, It's a free tool. Copies everything with keeping the file permissions. Very nice tool but, robocopy was very nice as well. Reminds me of a time when I had a failed drive in a home built server. It would not read the drive. 5 machines could not read the machine but, a Windows beta (I am thinking WIndows 7 beta) could read the drive fine. I used the XXcopy, copied all the data from that failed drice to a new one, Dropped it in the server, and it booted up fine with no issues. Very nice tool..
I am using your method and it looks like it is working. I am saving it to my back-up hard drive (3TB). Thanks for that! I've never restarted from a system image. So, if things go south, what do I do? Thanks!
I gave you the info in 5223: Crash2009- could you provide me also with the needed links for how to enable Xbox 360 and comment if these are valid for my Windows version ? (Attachment in 5223)
You could google wbadmin ..... looks like same tool does recovery. at the command prompt wbadmin /? /? has been there for decades. Same answer for your other questions. Why don't you tell us what it means. This is just an experiment for me...I just threw a dart, and this is where it landed. I'm sure someone will come along and say...."You got it all wrong son!" That wouldn't bother me a bit.
Ha, I hope not! Everything is up and running, received my Echo replacement (3rd Xbox 360) and it paired nicely. All is good in the WMC 10 world at the moment. I hope it stays this way!
Sounds like the newer hdhr drivers May 2016 cause a blowout in digital cable advisor. I never thought of this before but maybe we could have simply uninstalled digital cable advisor and hdhr dvr driver, boot, install DCA manually then install the old August 2015 hdhr driver
Well, I'm being a bit daring and went ahead with upgrading my main HTPC. I will see how that fares and report back.
The newer DVR software doesn't include the HDHomeRun Service that is required for WMC. Sounds like people had success uninstalling the DVR software, then installing the 20150826 HDHomeRun software and then re-installing the DVR software. So apparently you can't install the 20150826 software after the DVR software? I haven't tried it.
Might have been the order too. Sounds like HDHR DVR was installed first, then WMCv12. DCA blew up during setup. Maybe the best idea would be to uninstall v12 with v8, uninstall HDHR DVR, Get the HDHR firmware back to 8/26/2015, then go v12 Any thoughts on that?
Just install your OS on a native VHDX, then the backup becomes as simple as copying a file from here to there.
So I upgraded my main HTPC to Windows 10 and besides Nvidia driver issues everything went far smoother... latest hdhomerun drivers installed but I didn't do any reinstalls of the drivers after upgrading and installing WMC. Not sure what will happen if I upgrade the driver later but for now it's fine DRM works no lock ups Don't really understand why I had such different experiences between the two pcs. The only difference in setup between the two pcs is that the first pc was a low end NUC vs high end pc. Since I didn't start from scratch... USB UIRT still works without having to fix the drivers. I already went through the process of rolling my own Windows 10 drivers but it wasn't necessary Comskip / commercial skipping working fine So far Eventghost seems to be working for my setup when I switch between apps I'm already missing the Metro UI as a launcher, though. I used it to launch between WMC and Kodi. Tried using the tablet mode but looks like MS blocks mouse buttons while in that mode. I'll have to look into alternatives
I installed the DVR software on a machine with 20150826, it updated the firmware to the latest beta and have had no issues with WMC. After having the DCA fail with just the DVR software installed, I would first try just installing the 20150826 software and if that didnt work, uninstall the DVR software and then install the older software. Then try running DCA again, if that still fails, try the recovery task or uninstall DCA and reinstall. If it still fails then reinstall WMC.
