something else to test, with RW make "memory dump" start Address FFF00000, scroll down one time, and you will find the serial number of your machine, if the byte just before the serial number is 00 the SLP is OFF, if it is FF, the SLP is ON.
(at least on the machines working with HPBI103 utility)

Ok, here are the Tables with the Loader uninstalled, so they will not show the SLIC. With the loader the memory at FFF00000 shows FF as the value, i will soon check without the loader (which i assume does not change the value).. All values starting at that memory location is FF (And all around it before too). the machine name does appear but way before that address.. I can send you the dump if you wish.

Its been a year, nothing is being leaked on them. I guess HP is guarding it well.... Thanks for checking it out though.

So please if you are not concerned don’t post requests

How it works,
During the boot sequence a sub prog checks if the plugged WLAN/WWAN card is in a list, if yes, a flag is set to zero, if not, this flag is set to one.
The difficulty is to find where is the sub prog and to understand the code.
We know that the whitelist is in the 20100 module, with ADDCC it is now easy to decompose the bios and start the search.

With IDA, load the file 02_POST_00020100_Rom.dec, search the string 8680, now the address of the whitelist is known, search where the address is used and bingo the sub prog is in front of me.

In this type of sub prog there is 2 ways for the exit, a flag or a register is set to 1 or 0 depending of the result of the test. Here the carry is set to 0 if the card match the whitelist and set to one if not.
The code for “clear carry” is CLC, and STC for “set carry” to 1. Replacing the STC with CLC overrides the list checking result. et voila

Preliminary tests were done on my HP6910p with a intel 5300AGN and on HP2510p of nando4 (thanks to him), here is the message sent by nando4:

Hi TTAV134,

I modded the two locations, flashed system. Reboot with my 5100AGN from a Dell system installed and no 104 message. 5100AGN appears fine in Device Manager too. Woo-hoo! So this has overcome the wifi whitelisting

If you want to test before the definitive publication list of patched bios you can make your request by PM only.

Some print screens of IDA disassembly of HP2510p bios in attached files.

Hi, i have a HP Compaq 6910p Notebook with original bios F.19.
I tryed to install an HUAWEI WWAN HSPA Module EM770 but naturally doesn't work because this module isn't in the white list and i receive the error "Unsupported WWAN device".
I need "HP Compaq 6910p Notebook PC (version F.19 6-jul-2010) whitelist removed" bios version...
Whan do you think to release the definitive publication of patched bios?
Thank you.

Currently I am not yet allowed to post a PM. Please PM me, I have some information that might be of help, for instance some 6910P's contain the onboard WWAN adapter, some don't. Only the later released 6910P contain the builtin 3G WAN card. And the wireless on most of my 6910p's are 4965AG.

hello,

de-whitelisted bios (tested)

First, thanks TTAV134 for your mods!

Will you release the untested ones?

I own a 6820, but I haven't got a wwan card to test it so I haven't request it to try. But I would like to flash it in case someday I will need it, the only thing that I could test is if it boots or not...

But I assume that if you have modified correctly other bioses it will boot...

I have successfully tested the modded bios for HP 6910p with Intel video card.
Now the white list was cleared and i have successfully installed my wwan module.
SLIC was updated to 2.1 version but i can't test it because I already have a Win7 license installed.

concerning the HP EliteBook 2540p what do we have here.

1- the bios can be open by EzH2O

If the 2540P bios can be opened by EzH2O, then can do an in-memory edit of the whitelist using HxD's "Open Memory" function and save the bios in EzH2O. Would need TTAV134's modified flasher to do the flashing.

that's the "direct memory edit method", not really applicable as is, what i"m searching in a first step is a method for extracting all modules and doing a desasemby.
note: finally I'm extracting modules with HxD.
