Exactly, this, as well as the hidden SLIC issue that SLP ON would show

PS: Оn my 8710p this method is working (successfully downgraded F.0F -> F.06)...
PPS: I had noticed that this byte is changing every time protected area (F0000h-FFFFFh) is updated, as in your case it's happens also (F.07 -> F.0E).

have you found a way to flash protected area (F0000h-FFFFFh) ?

have you found a way to flash protected area (F0000h-FFFFFh) ?

Downgrading F.0F -> F.06 -> F.00 cann't update the protected area (it's still in F.0F state), but BIOS detected as downgraded (File -> System information -> ROM BIOS Version).

Use the tools provided in packages as they have to be used, read documents.
-1-ROMPAQ is a PURE DOS executable, dont try to use it in windows environnement, everything is in the toolkit.
-2- HPQFLASH patched allow flashing modified bios, Rom.sig , ver.sig are file signatures, useless with HPQFLASH patched.

nota: I apologize if I did not put the latest hpqflash in this HP550 package. You'v used HPQFlash-4253_patched_new and that fix the problem of missing rom.sig ver.sig files.
Can you report concerning SLIC table.

Hi,

Method for a HP BIOS RECOVERY:

Prerequisite:
The BIOS recovery procedure requires a USB diskette drive and a formatted diskette.
USB pen ----> doesn't work

Download you BIOS from HP, please note the model 68xxx

Copy the bin file of the BIOS on the diskette. eg:68YHV.BIN and not ROM.BIN

Press the 4 harrow keys (up, down, right, left) on the keyboard and power ON.

Wait ~2, 3 seconds an release the keys.

Wait the end of the process ( 2 minutes)

What if i dont have a diskette drive nor diskette....?
Or is this only for 68xxx series and not my nc6400?

I'm sorry for the persistence, but what about a "memory patch" for the ROM_Block of the BIOS where a Package Authentication (http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/7681-This-is-no-request-thread!-HP-COMPAQ-bioses-how-to-modify-the-bios?p=140523#post140523) (?) is processing before the BIOS begins to write to the enhancement space F0000h-FFFFFh???.
I think that's the reason why the downgrading can't update the "protected area", isn't it?
Is it real?

sebus
08 Oct 2010, 23:54
That would be nice, really nice...
It is not limited to downgrading, also upgrading a modded BIOS will not write to this area

So, start with HPBI124 (http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/7681-This-is-no-request-thread!-HP-COMPAQ-bioses-how-to-modify-the-bios?p=321728#post321728)... but, of course, you have to try all of them

Hi TTAV134, thanks a lot first of all. I downloaded the modded BIOS file for 2510p and flashed the BIOS in XP. Installed Windows 7 Pro 64-bit on my 2510p, it works fine and past the WGA validation. However there is one thing that confuses me whether I did it successfully or failed. There is a message shows on my display righter after the computer turns on. It says " Your BIOS failed to complete the updater. Please ensure that you follow the correct procedure and try again. This may require two sequential BIOS updates to complete the process". Is there second BIOS update to process? Thanks in advance.

Or can anybody else get the same issue advise a solution please?

If the flash process has resulted in that "2nd pass" message, maybe ask HP to send you out a new EEPROM chip? It's easily replaced via the 1.8" drive bay door.

They'll probably replace the whole systemboard if they don't know their own 2510P has a socketable AND user replacable bios eeprom chip.

If the system is out of warranty consider grabbing US$30 USB eeprom burner off ebay, a couple of AT25DF321 chips and copy a 'good' 2510P bios dump to it, then try the SLIC flash again. Now getting a good bios dump may need physical access to another 2510P.

None of the tools work, except HP103 that allows to read the SLP but not write it. All other tools will not run, report "this tool is not for that platform"

any ideas?

Using HPBI103 in a dc7700 the slp can be read, value is disabled. When running Hpbi103 write slp on I got write failed, errorcode=0x87. None of the others tools included in HP_DMI works with the bios of this computer.

same for me.

TTAV134
19 Oct 2010, 23:10
Here are the two files, hope you can find a solution to this. I guess there must be a way to do it (the HP utility is able to read the SLP status, so i am sure its possible to change it).

thanks for your time.

The AcpiTbls dump show a SLIC 2.1 table!
