What was the recovery name? I guess BIOS.fd?
And wich key-combination did you use?![]()
Yes, that was BIOS.fd I used FN + ESC (without battery - with battery fan don't want to start at 100% and notebook don't read bios from pendrive) Without battery every thing started like should be and computer is revived from the death![]()

4 ALL Toshiba devices:
Power + F will put the device in recovery mode! Use a max. 2GB Stick with the BIOS.fd file on it. This will work only once! If you start flashing in recovery mode and you cancel, the Boot Block will be damaged and you will have to flash it through a EPROMMER.
Toshiba Satellite L650 PSKxJE
Combination: F + Power
Filename: BIOS.fd
USB Stick: 2GB FAT16 (FAT)
Toshiba Satellite A300-24X
Combination: F + Power
Filename: BIOS.fd
USB Stick: 1GB FAT16 (FAT)
Toshiba A305
Combination: F + Power
Filename: BIOS.fd
USB Stick: 2GB FAT16 (FAT)
On some of those devices the recovery boot blocks are often damged. So you will have to ask toshiba to repair or people who know how to reflash a BIOS with a prommer.

Right ok. After much difficulty I have finally found out a solution for my Acer Travelmate 8371!! Please note after following and trying out many different instructions from around the internet, I have finally found out which one works for my laptop.
I shall post these instructions for anyone with the same machine and is having problem with following other instructions. Probably I have taken unneccesary steps but these worked for me and hope that these will help someone. First of all I will list the equipment needed.
Equipment
1) Acer Travelmate 8371 (I have the dual-graphics version, not sure if it will make a difference to people with the intel-only graphics.) in need of a bios re-flash
2) USB memory stick (I used a 16GB usb stick formatted to FAT32.
Instructions
1) Format memory stick to FAT32 (or FAT if FAT32 is not available I would assume (for smaller memory sticks)) NOTE: does not work on NTFS I tried this unsuccessfully.
2) Create a bootable USB flash drive (first part of this video watch?v=uBuCH-HgZY0) NOTE: I am not sure if this is necessary, as many people as I gather it worked without it being bootable.
3) Download and extract BIOS_Acer_1.28_A_A.zip into a convenient location such as the desktop NOTE: this is the official v1.28 bios from the acer website
4) Copy BAP31.128 + FLASHIT.exe from \DOS and place into the root directory of your memory stick.
5) Rename BAP31.128 to JM31X64.fd
6) Shut down the computer
7) Unplug AC cord NOTE: my battery was not installed
8) Insert memory stick NOTE: my memory stick was located on the right side, not sure if that matters
9) While holding Fn+ Esc push the power button on [u] and keep pressing Fn + Esc at varying speed -- quite fast at first and then slower. You should notice if this works is the Acer boot screen should go off and reboot every time you press Fn + Esc when you go slower.
10) Stop pressing Fn + Esc the next time the Acer boot screen goes off and wait Basically now what will happen is the screen will go blank, after some time (< 15 sec) the memory stick will start to flash, and soon after the fan speed will go to maximum throttle (< 45 sec) and the usb indicator will flash intermittently for about another 30 seconds when it will stop and afterwards the fan will spin down and it will reboot itself.
Good luck!

hi,
i have problem with bios, after update (through offical channel) , and then restart
laptop just died, when is on - is just black screen
HP elitebook 8540p
i have tried all method from this topic and others
USB stick with
Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\Current\68CVD.BIN
Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\Current\68CVD.SIG
SMC.BIN
or with all caps lock
or with 68CVD.BIN and 68CVD.SIG in root folder
Laptop after i press windows key+B is restart (and one beep) after about 15-20 sec, then turn on again restart (but this time mostly dont read anything from usb)
and after is turn on for third time, then is just running (one time several hours)
after this step
i have tried to pull cable, shutdown, and then start, nothing
(before all this i have tried hard reset, several other ways with dos , but nothing,
combination with manually recovery, holding keys longer, shorter...)
and i have get usb floppy, but 1.44MB is to small when bios is 3 MB, and with compression through one version of crisis again is too large
can somebody help me?
Resolved, after several days and countless number of methods and flashing
simple solution is that i downloaded first published bios from 2010 for this model
Steps are simple
1. You need USB stick (FAT32, not bootable)
2. Download from HP your bios update (extract them with win rar or 7z)
(then extract file from ROM package, rename Rom.bin and efibios.sig according to your number of bios - you can find them in ver.txt)
3. Put files like this on USB
Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\Current\68CVD.BIN
Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\Current\68CVD.SIG
SMC.BIN
3 Start Laptop and press Windows key + B (about 3-5sec)
When you see that something read data from USB release keys
(it's all about feeling when you need let off this keys, so probably you need to try several times)
4 After 1-2 minute laptop will restart and you get error (press enter)
5. From this step further is all easy (your OS is booting)
I don't know why last two version of bios have not worked in this step, but first release have
(and latest version of bios just won't install, i have tried several methods, one time i have boot screen with success upgrade,
but after restart laptop is stuck for one hour, and then i just repeat restore which is described before)
I have corrupted my bios, ubuntu works but windows 7 installation or installer both crash, latter says corrupted files but that's bs. i tried flashrom, flashit gives no fadt error, key combo win + B doesn't work. is there any way to re-flash it.
