Hello all,
I bought myself a Asus Vintage3 (V-series) P5G33 barebone, which has the Asus P5K-VM mobo installed. For some reason Asus found it necessary to not include the normal bios for this fine motherboard, but replace this with a bios without any overclocking options.
Of course I tried to flash the original P5K-VM bios, but I am not allowed to do this using any flash tool: the model name of the images don't match. The barebone has a own series of bioses, of which the latest was installed (version 0302).
This is where I ask for anyone's help: Could someone change the model name in the P5K-VM bios to P5K-VM(V-P5G33) (no spaces)?
Type of bios: AMI
The current bios: P5K-VM(V-P5G33) 0302
A bios with advanced options enabled: P5K-VM 0602
I have tried all other ways I could think of:
-Flashing with ASUS Easy Flash 2 at boot time: model doesn't match.
-Flashing with ASUS Easy Update for windows: same.
-Flashing with AFUDOS from ASUS, has no command line options except /o and /i: same.
-Flashing with AFUDOS from AMI: bios not accepted
-Flashing with amiflash.com: looks like it works, but no results after reboot.
-Flashing with uniflash 1.40 (with -ASUS or -ATI argument): gives exception and quits, can't read current bios info.
It looks like changing the modelname in the wanted bios is the only way to go, or someone should be able to hack the V-P5G33 bios? All comments are welcome.
Thanks in advance,
Blitzed

What about Afudos 2.11

Using this command line:
Afudos /ixxxx.rom /pbnc /n
xxxxx.rom is the renamed bios.

I'd like the same , i purchased a V2 & V3 ststem from newegg.com but havent had time or strength 2 research them - since i ripped out my P5Whd (DH? mobo) & replaced with a P5K-E wi/fi mobo and havent ironed out the strange quirks in it yet. being bedridden i did slap em together both with intel duo cpu's and 4 gig ram and habe them both running bista home premium and wake up on lan.. So im slowly building em up the v2 (of course im my ifes , she just plays games). im using the v3 as a server with 3- 500 gig wd drives. getting 55-65 MB/Sec thru the i gigabit lan. Alas my ms & polio problems are sappig more of my strength away - and old age so i'm unable 2 do mor then 1 hr or less on some days. sorry 4 the rambling.. these are some nice v2 & v3 systems..
BLITZED, thank u 4 posting his and 4 doing the work u have, u saved me weeks of trying the same if i ever regain my strenght..

In case of my first idea isn't working I could try for a mod. (Rename the P5K-VM 0602 to P5K-VM(V-P5G33) 0302)
to fool the check.
I didn't try this before.
Alternatively you can buy a bios chip with P5K-VM 0602 bios on it and exchange the bios chip.
But I have no experience about. I cannot state for sure if it'll work.
Should I try for a mod? As you surely know there is a risk to brick the board.

Thank you very much Yen! Your first solution worked. At first I got the feeling this AFUDOS wouldn't accept any switches like /pbnc and /n either, but it did! I think this flash was as risky as renaming the bios and forcing it the other way, but someone had to try! I'm very happy with my barebone right now and can recommend it to everyone.
RTShaw, hope this does you well and you're welcome! Merry Christmas to all of you!

Glad to hear. This Afudos seems to be something special. It hasn't got the usual checks like the newer ones. (Check for newer version, which means no downgrade, or check for version)
Yen
thanks 2 u both..i really apreciate this..

lost most control of my fingers so pleaqe bear with me, it hurts like hell 2 type.
did u see this? evidently Asus left a few cpu's out of this Bios update including my cpu the QX6850 (may have the no's transposed) i havent flashed to the other mobo firmware (P5K-VM) yet. i may wait until the next firmware update (of course im dnloading the manual now) i should be alble 2 set the parameters in the bios, raring to try it. just need 2 be able 2 get out this bed and of course my arms have 2 work(**** sockets). everythings ready in a flashdirve.. Blitzed all u did was change the firmware name? i wouldnt think u'd have to with this version of AFuDos1.1 (thanks Yen). i did check 2 see what the flags were but didnt find em listed (only t ried a few sites)

Apologies for dragging this very old topic back up with my first post, but I'd like to attempt what was outlined with my v2-p5g33 to a) stop an annoying Q-Fan error with my E5200, and b) overclock said processor.
My three main questions are:
1. Will this guide work exactly the same with the V2-P5G33 as it does with the V3 version? I think they both contain exactly the same motherboard as they use the same bios' and drivers on their respective pages on the Asus site.
2. I've already flashed my bios with the p5g33 0702 bios in attempting to fix my problems. So instead of renaming the latest P5K-VM bios 'P5G33-0302.ROM' would I call it 'P5G33-0702.ROM'?
3. I know there are newer versions of Afudos, should I just stick with 2.11 as I've read on some other sites that newer versions don't perform this operation properly.
I'm not overly hopeful of any answers as this thread is so old, but if someone could answer it would be fantastic.
Hello everyone,
I work for a company that supplies a lot of the Asus Barebones sold in the UK, the current models now use a standard motherboard from their microATX range for the units but put a cut down bios on them with most of the options missing in order to encourage you to buy up to a full blown motherboard. Cross flashing with AFUDOS will work in most cases but results can vary as the boards are sometimes a touch different (missing a connector or somesuch).
In regards to Vintages a Vintage 2 P5G33 would be the same internally as the V3 and V4 versions and the same applies across the other Vintage models.
