Default Build 6956 Sidebar Fix

Just need to swap four files from a Vista or Build 6801. I have UAC turned off.

Browse to Program Files\Windows Sidebar & take ownership of the 6956 files below, rename or delete the 6956 files, swap in Vista or Build 6801 files to replace them.

Root Files:
settings.ini
sidebar.exe

en-US Folder:
sbdrop.dll.mui
Sidebar.exe.mui

Link for Vista files to use if needed:

Code:

Link for complete Win 7 6801 Files:

After doing some reading UAC seems to be affecting this so these steps may not be even needed if UAC is turned off or set to normal beforehand. I had already swapped my files before getting this info.

If you turn UAC off, and sidebar still doesnt work, then this method will fix it.

To take ownership of a file just right click the file and choose Properties.

Go to the Security tab, click the Advanced button at the bottom, choose Owner tab next and then click the EDIT button. Highlight your account name and press Apply.

Click the OK button 3 times leaving you at the file Properties box under Security tab where you started. Now, click Edit button, highlight your user name and check mark the Full Control, press OK, then press YES.

All done, now repeat steps on all 4 files.

Suicide Solution - THANK YOU.

I copied the files from 6801 as you suggested, now with UAC off I get the gadgets.

Life is good again........
