use Je Jin's DISM Tool look at wiminfo that will tell you how many versions are on the dvd.
Upgrade dvd don't have certificate. delete the ei.cfg ile then you can installant version you want but you wont be able to activate it because you don't have a professional key SLP OEM keys wont work, unless you have slic 2.1 in bios.

- I have a 2 month OLD DELL XPS Studio 1640.
- This will be having slic 2.1 I hope... Anyways the DELL site shows me a BIOS update... Maybe this will give me slic 2.1.
- Anyways, if slic 2.1 is there, the Windows 7 H.Prem DVD can be used for prof/ultimate? (I have the certificate as well as the OEM keys for DELL Prof/Ultimate)

Edit: Urie, could u please enlighten me how to use the Je Jin's DISM tools for finding out the versions on the disk?

The Dell media I received includes all Windows 7 versions.
I deleted the ei.cfg on my Dell Windows 7 x64 Upgrade disk using this method:

This allows selection of the version to install (Home Premium, Ultimate etc.)
You probably cannot choose between x64 and x86, as it is determined by the dvd media.
You can choose not to enter the key and activate later.
You can extend the 30 days activation period 3 times using
cmd.exe (Administrator) > slimgr -rearm while you check it out.

See more details on the Windows 7 upgrade process in my post in the Dell forum.

Good luck. Post your results...
