@911medic. I have to agree with you on that. A great deal of posts addressing the same issues posted in slightly different wording. Seems like some people don't know how to use "Search". As you sa alot of BS.

@Zort. Andys mod tools are a blessing if you ask me. In reallity I think manual modding could be too much for some folks.

On another point, wouldn't it be nice if there was not so much focus on activation ?

Very good point. Maybe a seperate section would be in order to take the focus off.

Indeed there are so much threads about activation, it should be in a seperate section or subforum.

Also Security could sit nicely in a seperate section, as someone else allready commented in the forums.

It would make mdl even more organised, and discussions could be better distinguished, and so maybe lower the bickering a bit ?

Just a thought...

I agree, a sub forum is a great idea.

We have already discussed about a separate forum regarding act*vators / loaders. At the moment we have decided not to create a separate forum for them.

Reasons:

-W7 is new, activation of course still matters, we want to wait about. IMO the interest will decrease soon.

-we already restrict them to get them out of focus
http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showthread.php?t=12067

-we want to wait till WAT is on. I guess the loaders then will have much trouble to survive.

-we don't want to attract too much attention about...loaders are much easier to apply for the 'common' PC user than a biosmod.

Some general thoughts.....

Some things behave antidromic:

automatisation - manual (modding)
expert skills needed - applicable for all
expert forums, low amount of members - common forums, high amount of members.

MDL was an expert forum, usually for bios modders. We always had and still have a lot of skilled members here. That's what MDL makes special.
Then it was flooded due to W7 with all the advantages and disadvantages.
What annoys me at most is the behaviour of some members. They come to here and are posting links to something.......Did I ask for something? Did anybody ask for something? Others are noticing that there is a way to get something for free. A biosmod, a loader.....then they activate W7 and disappear...
I guess and hope that the amount of such interests will slow down when the W7 hype is over and just noticed being an ordinary OS like others, too.

We want to find a 'middle' way. Being a forum, not only for bios modder, but for enthusiastic people.

At the moment we are waiting..this doesn't mean we do nothing to improve MDL. To move this forum to the top was just a small but effective thing to make MDL better.

Feel free to discuss....

Reading this, the motivations for not considering it are perfectly understandable.

As for the link posting, well, I too did make one post in the applications section about an explorer alternative. Next time I'll think a little longer then, before making another one of those. Though it brought about an interesting discussion about the "explorer" concept, I'll create the thread without the link next time.

Thanx for this elaboration, it explains a lot.

EDIT : btw, You're all doing a great job trying to improve MDL. If one thinks that MDL isn't a dynamic forum, then he's a fool.

We had to learn. I think it SHOULD be too much for some. The tools are good for us, because we can troubleshoot the bios that need it (most times)..But I started it because it was a challenge and fun to learn.

Most these days just want a free lunch..

I think the technical aspect is going away because of the influx of the unlearned and "dont want to be learned"..

The loaders are a mix of the same stuff, just reorganized and tidied up..the WOW project was a good change IMHO..The rest is rehashed BS..

I have no problem with ignorance, it is the stupidity that burns my rear!!!

I wouldn't mind learning how to mod a bios.

Cool

@Yen. I agree 100%. There does seem to be alot of hit and run going on at MDL or perhaps I should say FDL...........free digital lunch Sure, I've activated, requested a bios mod, bricked a mobo......lol , sucsessfully modded and flashed my bios using andyp's mod tool and then posted it for others to use should they want it.
For me its about more than that. There is much to learn in the field of computing and for me MDL is the ideal place to increase my knowledge. Somedays I login and just read posts, most days there is something worth learning from the many experts that reside here at MDL. This IMHO is what makes MDL special. A fabulous forum with a great ethos, personally I'm here for the long haul. My sincere hope is that all this activate and run behaviuor doesn't bring any negative effect on MDL.

And that my friend is why the modders at MDL command such respect and deservingly so. Modding is a very technical, skilled area of expertise. I and others would I'm sure would be willing to learn these skills. Lets be honest though modding really sits in the elite area of computing. I think Andyp's tools make modding accsessable to the average user. He who learns and applies his trade shall earn the respect of others..........

The funny thing is that, this is not our trade...

Yen is not in the computer field, not entirely (as far as I know)...

Andy and I are both in the medical field..

I think we have Legal counsel and other fine professions here also giving the hobby a boost. I think you don't have to be a professional programmer to learn something here, give something, and have a lot of fun...But I have seen it helps..

I think the biggest difference here is the concern for others property. It has been a very personal experience when a modification or program has broken someones hardware. This happens elsewhere, I am sure, but it is sincere around here (at least it has been).

I have been privi to some great minds here, and learned a ton..Not just the bios end, all of it. I hope you guys benefit as much as I..

I miss some of the others that were here when I first started reading. They were truly on the edge, Yen is amazing with his knowledge and knack for understanding. It blows me away!!
