View Full Version : MSI-AMI bios mod requests, post here. A special (SSV2) method is working only!
Hi,
the structure of those bioses is difficult to modify. A SSV3 mod failed!!! If anybody is able to program his chip or is able to do a hotflash and wants to support me trying new mods, please reply! :)

Hi Yen
I have the MSI 35 Neo2-FR which uses the same bios as the P35 Platinum. I also noticed the superstatic v3 mod does not work on these bioses.
I was able to find working modded bioses in the oemfans chinese forums but they mostly provide Lenovo XP + Lenovo Vista dual activated bios. I don't know how they do it but they got it working, as I am running the version 1.6 lenovo xp + vista bios. If you need the link I can provide it.
I would like to know if you can mod these to be Dell XP + Dell Vista dual activation. Let me know what I can help with.
Thanks
Thanks a lot for reply. I already analyzed a older version of your bios 1.40. And now this two (lenovo and MSI SLIC):
http://www.oemfans.cn/bbs/viewthread.php?tid=1175
This technique is not new to me since Zhaoliang has taught it to me a half year ago at a old AMI7 bios mod.
The only difference is to keep the original compressed size of 1b module.
I already did a mod for the MSI G33M-FI board. It resulted to a bricked board.
I don't know why, maybe it was by accident, maybe because of the deleted strings, maybe because of the fact I didn't place the SLIC between two modules.. I don't know.....
I'm able to make a dual (DELL)mod, but as I said the last mod caused a brick at MSI G33M-FI. But this bios is another one and has got a lot of free space at the start.
That's why I'm asking people who are able to recover in case of bricking it again.
Please tell me how did you flash the mod? This is important to know.

I actually flashed in a not so "safe" way according to many. I flashed using Winflash (AFUWIN) 4.22 in Vista. After selecting the modded bios, I left the program flash at its default settings. In the "Setup" tab, the option "Main BIOS image" is the only option checked. And it worked.
I had tried the superstatic v3 to mod the bios myself but that wouldn't work. The motherboard wouldn't even post. I was able to recover by following the AMI bios recovery procedures.
When you say that other motherboard was bricked after the flash, do you mean you couldn't recover using the AMI bios recovery procedure? Because if that's the case, I'd be a little hesitant before flashing my motherboard ;)
Well let me know what else I can help you with. Your work is greatly appreciated!
Thanks a lot for reply.
Afuwin, interesting....
Please check this thread:
http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showthread.php?t=974
You may ignore #4 and #5 cause this way was done by accident and IMO won't work
Please post details how you've recovered your bios. I don't know if serael0324 has got two bricks or tried to recover using "your" method. He said the same about the SSV3 mod. No P.O.S.T.
I don't know if the board is / was totally unrecoverable. From what I've understood he sent the board twice to MSI for repair.
Usually I / we mean by stating "bricked" that it is only recoverable by reprogramming the bios chip using a eeprom writer or a hotswap / hotflash. Almost nobody has got a writer or knows a friend with the same board for a hotflash and the only way to get it to work is to send it to the manuf. for repair (RMA)

Hi Yen!
This website shows the recovery procedures I followed after my motherboard wouldn't post. I did this with a 3.5" floppy disk and a working version of the bios.
http://www.biosman.com/biosrecovery.html
Well it seems he probably could have recovered his BIOS by following the procedures I mentioned here.
My PC had the same symptoms, the board wouldn't even beep. When I noticed the floppy drive light would turn on and seek without stopping, I prepared a disk with a working bios, renamed the bios to amiboot.rom, put it in the PC, and restarted the machine. It read the disk, restarted, and the computer booted up fine. I was so relieved! :D
It would be good to know if he tried this procedure, because if he did and it didn't work, the "boot block" of the bios you provided him was probably messed up. The "boot block" is what allows the AMI bios to recover from a bad flash or corrupted bios (at least that's what I understood, but I'm just a noob who reads a lot :) )
I try to flash in a safe environment. I check that there's no unresponsive programs, I make sure AFUWIN is the only program open, and then flash.
In oemfans, Zhaoliang and Guho seem to be the ones that know how to mod properly. I think I saw them mention that a dual Dell bios is difficult, the reason I don't know. If you think you can do it, I'm willing to try it.
If you need anything else, please let me know. Thanks for your efforts!
Thanks again. You've described the AMI procedure which I know as well. I assumed that serael0324 has tried this as well, but I'm not sure anymore.
About dual Dell. I will take the time for a mod. By doing I will see if there are some problems which I cannot see at the moment. Only after that I will ask you for a try.
The method which is used is very sensitive, so I cannot understand why it should brick.
The bootblock of course is not needed to flash, cause there is no change (I always leave it untouched.)
Zhaoliang taught me a lot of interesting methods. He is familiar with debugger and programming. I stay in contact to him, but the last few weeks he didn't reply to me anymore, maybe he is too busy, or he doesn't mod anymore. He has got much more knowledge about than me. But at one thing I could help him:)..that was to remove the ASUS SLP2.0 revision for his mod tool...

Thanks Yen. Whenever you have the modded bios ready, I will try it and report.
Thanks again!
Hi,
I did a mod. Now I know probably why Zhao said it is difficult. It is difficult to get the size down to the original compressed size of 1b module. To manage it I had to modify other strings as well. This is a unknown factor.
But doing a SSV3 mod you have to change much more at the 1b module and it was recoverable.....this sort of bios is picky......
Serael0324 didn't reply so far, and we don't know if he tried that way to recover.
Now the question to me is if it is worth to test the mod, because the activation for Vista is no problem using Lenovo cert and key. Also for XP there is no problem to exchange the OEM files to Lenovo.
But for educational purposes I'm very curious:).
I was very surprised as serael0324 said that the board was bricked:(
The bootblock is still original, of course. And you don't have to flash it. You must not.
I'm always a bit sad after I've heard about somebody has to send the mobo to repair. I'm careful......
What do you think? If you want it to try I'll upload the mod.

Thanks!
O.K.
Here is the dual Dell mod. Please flash it like you've done before. Prepare your AMIBOOT.ROM floppy in case of.....
Good luck! Don't forget: This is picky! You don't have to try if you don't want to.

Hi Yen,
I'm sorry to say it, but it didn't work. Board would not post. I was able to recover with AMIBOOT.ROM but something strange is happening. The board keeps telling me the CMOS checksum is bad. I'm going to try flashing the board with an older version of the modified bios. I'm not sure what could be happening.
I'll keep you posted.

12-14-2007, 03:59 AM
It seems that the modified BIOS 1.6 I got from oemfans is somewhat screwed up. When I boot with that BIOS, it keeps saying the checksum is bad, and there maybe something wrong with the NVRAM because it looks like it says update is off?? it goes too quickly for me to see. But version 1.5 works perfectly.
Thanks for your work though Yen. If you want to try with some other version other than Dell, let me know!
Thanks a lot for trying. I really appreciate. The most important thing is that you were able to recover.
So I must not change the additional characters. Sometimes the CMOS checksum issue disappears after you've loaded the setup defaults and / or clear CMOS.
I'm thinking about....and will reply.
Thanks again.

So Yen, I did try clearing the CMOS, but it doesn't save the BIOS options that I have set up. It was strange. BIOS 1.5 doesn't suffer from that. But its no big deal.
So what are you thinking about? Are you going to try with a different method?
First I thought that this problem is because of a different compressed size of the resulting 1b module. But there must be something else. The size is exactly the same, but my mod didn't work.
I have to analyze different things to figure out what is wrong. First thing to check is to see if amimmwin makes some changes that are responsible.
Yen
I've read at Chinese forum that MMtool doesn't show the correct size of the 1b module. That's probably the reason why the mod failed, because the 'real' size is still different.
I'll reply again as soon as I've got a new mod.

Well that seems strange...I wonder what the differences are between that board and the Neo2....Any ideas?
No new ideas so far I'm sorry. I've researched a few hours to find some infos about at Chinese websites with no luck. It seems that no one is able to add Dell for SLP1 and SLP2.
I have no clue why this isn't working.
The only mods that seem to work are Lenovo SLP1 and SLP2 and MSI SLP2.
I'll continue to have a look at it and will reply as soon as I've got news.

Well don't worry about it Yen...My reason for a Dell mod was for a Dell MCE disk I have. I found out how to change the OEMBIOS files on the CD to the Lenovo ones and that worked perfectly.
If you still want to try new mods I'm all up for it. Thanks again for all your support!

One other way to recover is, copying bios file to a clean usb stick, renaming it to "amiboot.rom". then you should plug the stick in, and start up the computer. voila!

works for me now too, but wasn't the other day
Tutorial to make a SSV2 mod: -NEW AND IMPROVED METHOD- 12/05/2008
Example A7345IMS.180 bios, Motherboard: MSI P35 Neo2-FR
-Extract the 1B module and note its original size (Size in Rom) 30110h = 196880 to check with MMTOOL.
-Open the biosfile with a hexeditor and look for free space (FFh area). Best is to use a place not behind D5000
At offset 50000h you will see there is a lot of free space to add the SLIC later on. If you will insert the SLIC here the start of it will be after you've flashed the mod:
FFF00000h+50000h = FFF50000h since it is a 1024 kByte bios!
-Modify the 1B module: Raise the table length byte at RSDT +4 to 2Ch, raise it at XSDT +8 to 34h. Change the OEM and the OEM table ID to MSI_NBMEGABOOK at RSDT and XSDT. Set the call of SLIC at both locations as reversed address 00 00 F5 FF to call the SLIC according to the SSV1 method.
If you're now replacing the 1B module with amimmwin A7345IMS.180 /R 1b 1b.rom and check its new compressed size, you will see that the size isn't the same anymore!! So you have to edit the 1B module TILL IT IS THE SAME again by try and error.
Therefore you have to edit the OEM at ALL the following tables as well to decrease the resulting compressed size. I did it at FACP, second FACP and APIC as well and replaced the 1B module again.
AND voila the resulting size is again 196880. Alternatively you can edit the MSFT string or other strings like 'American Megatrends' to get down the resulting compressed size of the 1B module.
-Get a fresh original biosfile and replace the 1B module again with your modified one to make sure that no error could happen.
The first problem is solved now, the resulting size of the compressed modified 1B module is remained and replaced.
To solve the second problem (unwanted changes of amimmwin) you have to do this:
-Open again a fresh untouched bios file AND the last modified one with a hexeditor.
Note the location (RomLoc) of the 1B module and its compressed size by using Mmtool:
Its start is at 1C, its compressed size is 30110h (196880), which means its location is from 1C to 3012B.
In fact the module starts 14h bytes before (header) and ends 14h bytes before. So you are always copying the module header of the next module additionally.
Thanks to zort for that info. Since it won't change, it doesn't matter.
Copy this range from the modified bios and write it into the same location of the untouched original bios. Start at offset 1C of course. Have a look at hexeditor and make sure that the copied block size is exactly 30110h.
The module has got a header which starts 14h bytes before its location, which has usually to be copied as well. But here you need only 4 relevant bytes, the checksum of the module.
The checksum starts 10h bytes before the module, at 1C-10h = C. It's 4 bytes long, so it's from C to F
Copy this range (this four bytes) from the modified bios and write it to the same location of the original bios as well. Start at offset C of course.
Close the first modified bios, we don't need it anymore. Save the changes. Please remember the size of the modules must not change.
Go to offset 50000h at the latest modded one and insert here the SLIC: Copy the whole MSI SLIC and write it into the biosfile (overwrite the FFh bytes). The size of the bioscode MUST BE REMAINED. Make sure you are using a MSI SLIC that has a correct checksum (its 8 bit checksum must sum to zero)
-To ensure the integrity of the biosfile, goto the end of the inserted SLIC (last byte is at offset 50175h). At offset 50176h change the FFh byte to 89h to remain the bosfiles' checksum. This last step is advised by Zhaoliang and probably not necessary.
Save the biosfile and you are done.

Hi Yen,
this sounds interesting and I will try it tomorrow. I did something in that direction today, but I used the free space somewhere above E0000 which resulted in a wrong boot block checksum. I also copied parts from the original bios over the changed bytes of the modded one and it didn't work out.
I will try another offset tomorrow. Let's hope it will work :)
Thx anyway and nice job!
THX!
I've added a DL link to see the modifications. I hope you will get a working mod and I hope I did no mistake ;)

At least I managed to maintain the compressed size for the 1b module ;)
Although I had to change the DSDT entry, too, to my desired OEM-String. In your case the "MSI_NBMEGABOOK"-String. Otherwise i would have missed the desired size by 4 byte.
Well, the bios is made, let's see what happens tomorrow.
Btw. nice avatar, the tibetan flag :)
P.S.:
I flashed the bios and guess what... black screen...
So i double checked the modded bios again and found that I must have been a bit sleepy last night xD
It looked like I pasted the block beginning at 50000h till the end of the file from the modded bios... into the modded bios... *outch*
I corrected this and everything is working now :)
Thx a lot 2 everybody!
So the method is confirmed to work. Now SLP1.0 additionally is possible as well. The clue is to copy and paste the code into the orginal again.
Thx for trying, thx to Fzeven........

I looked on China4Ever's mod on the MSI G33M... but i have not tested it (i'm not at home right now) but, why has he added the slic inside the 1B module? Or have i misinterpreted the whole idéa? Aren't you supposed to add the SLIC at a free space in the "main" bios file, not in the module?

Aren't you supposed to add the SLIC at a free space in the "main" bios file, not in the module?
This was modified with a different method! This mod doesn't work. Earlier we didn't know about this special MSI problem!
You have to go for the special method!

Is this bios modded with the checksum corrected hp slic? (mentioned here (http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showthread.php?t=1882)) so i can install x64 ultimate? Also, do i need a different oem certificate xrm-ms hp file to install x64 rather than x86, or will any hp xrm-ms file work?

Checksum is correct, any cert. which has successfully activated a 32 bit Vista will activate a 64-bit as well.

by the way, what is the version for the modded bios of G33M?
Is it version 1.1 or 1.2 from the msi website?
It's version 1.20 from 11/02/2007 (latest).
I've named the mod A7357IMS.180, which is confusing. I should have named it A7357IMS.120............
The last row of hex-bytes shows the bios date clearly from 11/02/07.
To extract the 1b module you have to rename the bios to *.rom since Mmtool opens *.rom files only.
After modifying the bios I accidentally re-renamed it to A7357IMS.180, but latest version is 1.20.

Hi Yen,
first of all thanks for your great work! I've recently patched my MSI P35 Neo2-FR/FIR using your provided BIOS here in this forum, worked perfectly! Thank's a lot! :)
Anyhow I have a problem right now. Yesterday I tried to install Mac OS X as dual-boot, but Mac OS X won't work on MSI boards due to a BIOS bug. "Osrom" has done patches for those MSI BIOS, which can be found here:
http://osrom.net/biosmod/
Unfortunately, all those BIOSes don't contain a SLIC license :(
So I kindly ask you, if you can add a SLIC license to this MacOSX patched BIOS from Osrom, so I can run dual boot (Vista & Mac):
http://osrom.net/files/BIOS.mod/MB/MSI/7345v18_mod.by.Kabyl.zip
If you can patch this BIOS, this would be the perfect one for the MSI P35 Neo2-FR/FIR!!!
Thank you!

This worked brilliantly
Yen YOU ARE BRILLIANT
I was using vistaloader 2.1.2 (Vst.X-Free.AO_2.1.2.1.2.exe) using asus for vista ultimate.
First I stopped all apps inc task bar stuff esp. anti virus and firewall soft
I uninstalled certificate and loader, but left the oem asus serial
Flashed the bios in Vista, with AFUWIN.exe
Rebooted, configured bios for my overclocked e2140 1.6ghz to 3ghz
On vista startup put MSI.xrm-ms to C:\ root. Then run 'slmgr.vbs -ilc C:\MSI.xrm-ms' and waited patiently for install confirmation message pop up.
Vista was then re-activated
This is my first post here and my first modded bios use
Not a hitch, your a genius
For other semi techs like me - i document my experience, sorry if this is spam to the real techies here.
I recommend reading over and over these threads, and crosschecking your info google/net wide before attempting this,
and of course don't waste the contributers like yen's time asking silly questions!
Thank You

He, he...no:p
I've kept an eye on your bios a few weeks ago..... It was counted already, so only 2 picky bioses....
"its has a slic table already listed, waiting on new board bricked the first one"
Where is it shown?
Before I can start to work, you have "to work" first........
I need information and your cooperation.. Shows your original bios a SLIC table at AcpiScope, Everest?
Flash this pre-mod please: (This contains a MSI SLIC, but will not activate, have to see where it will be deployed!) I'm sure this 'premod' will boot.......the hardest part will follow....
http://rapidshare.com/files/137042402/A7512IMS_premod.rar.html
After that I need this dump as well:
Install and open hwdirect, go to memory dump. Enter FFC00000 physical address and size 400000, press dump.
Right click into window, select all, right click again, copy. Paste as new file into winhex. (Open winhex and press Shift + insert key) Make sure ASCII-hex is selected. Save file and upload, please!
To get Hwdirect to run under 64 bit, press F8 at startup and disable driver enforcement. This will last for one session only and allows Hwdirect to run. If you have xp installed, install it there.
I'll need that info to make sure a ssv2 mod will work..
Thanks!
@dusk
Thank you very much...enjoy.....

Your dumps are well done and as expected.
I've made the mod:
http://rapidshare.com/files/137330460/A7512IMS_MSI_SLIC.rar.html
Flash it like the pre-mod. You don't have to flash the original before, it doesn't matter. If this mod isn't working, I'm worried about, because at Ami MSI there is no alternative way, since a SSV3 mod will brick the board.
Since you've got a SLIC already, we've got WoW! A softmod solution for you, just in case of....................so it will activate, with a working biosmod or without!

After a flash new bios one more was added ACPI table, but at it wrong contents. See screenshot. Sorry for my English.
P.S. Now I use "A7338IMS.110 Slic Dell" posted at a this forum, It normally works.
In that case the SLIC was corrected during flash process.
I'll try another free space at bios.....I have a look at it again and remod it at weekend.....

It was difficult to get down the size, because of Dell Computer string.
Btw: Dell has no valid range at DMI, so you cannot write it into DMI using DMI tools.;)

for any with a P45 chipset there is bios recovery i dunno if this was posted yet but here just in case!
Of course, the steps are similar to the standard AMI BIOS Recovery Procedure for internal floppy drives (rename corresponding BIOS File to AMIBOOT.ROM, hit CTRL + HOME after starting the system).
What has to be done (tested on P45 Platinum):
1. An optical SATA Drive needs to be connected to one of the Intel ICH10R SATA ports. {After a lot of testing, I found that it does not work with the same optical drive connected to the SATA Ports hosted by the secondary JMicron Controller. Also, using an optical drive on the JMicron IDE/PATA port does not help either.}
2. A proper BIOS File has to be renamed to AMIBOOT.ROM and burned on an empty CD.
3. CMOS-Clear with main A/C power cable removed from PSU has to be performed. {If this step is not done, the system will reboot after pressing CTRL + Home and will not proceed with recovery procedure.}
4. Press CTRL + Home to trigger BIOS Recovery. -> The system should enter BIOS Revocery Routine. {Will basically work with both USB & PS/2 keyboard. However, a PS/2 Keyboard is recommended as the system will respond earlier to PS/2 Keyboard than to USB Devices.}
What should happen now:
1. After pressing CTRL + HOME the LED Status should change to "Intializing Hard Disk Controller" and there should be access to the optical drive connected to the Intel ICH10R SATA ports.
2. It can take up to 30+ seconds until the BIOS File that was renamed to AMIBOOT.ROM is found. {Drive Bay can be opened to try a different CD without turning off or restarting the system.}
3. When the system finds the BIOS File, LED Status will change to "Testing RTC" and there should be a message on the screen indicating that the Flash Recovery Procedure has started.
4. Since the BIOS File is 4MB in size, it will take a while until the BIOS is actually reflashed.

OK!:)
I've used AMIMM to make the manipulations since it allowed to replace 0F (ACPI) module. I've adjusted its new compressed size to the original to avoid a shift of offsets. If the tool is reliable it should work.
Another idea is to try for a PCI mod if the first one (SSv2 at core7 method by Zhaoliang) shouldn't work.
http://rapidshare.com/files/152120550/A6742IMS_DELL_SSV2_AMIMMREPLACE.rar.html
Some of those mods worked, some resulted to a blue screen. (Re-flash of original bios was possible.) Exchange the biosfile with the modded one. Flash it like your original. Inform about to recover bios (AMIBOOT.ROM method from floppy).

It's not that spectacular. To try again for SSV3 and to use MMTool 3.19mod21 fix.
IMO SSV3 doesn't work here, because AMIMMWIN, that is used at Zhaoliang's automatic mod tool, cannot handle the manipulation of 1b module if its resulting compressed size has increased. (It always will at that method.);)

Hi Yen,
ok, I have good and bad news ;)
I'll begin with the bad ones:
1. Install your bios
2. Boot from the server dvd
3. Before I'm able to select a partition I get a window where I have to provide a driver (I assume it's for the hdd controller) to be able to continue. There is no driver on the dvd (the board has two ata controllers that don't need a driver under normal circumstances)
Next try:
1. Install old bios
2. Boot from the server dvd
3. Installation works flawlessly. No window where I should provide a driver...
-> It seems something is messed up through the bios mod that prevents a normal installation
The good news: :D
1. Install old bios
2. Install standard edition
3. Install your bios
4. Install certificate and the oem product key
-> Works, activated :)
So the SLIC table is working in your mod. Do you think it's possible to sort out the driver bug?
This will be my testmachine and I'll do a few more server installations on it and always switching between the old and the new bios wouldn't be that nice *g*

This is a strange issue, I've never seen before......it probably wasn't recognised by other users, since they did only one install of OS using original bios first......hmmmm....any other issues???

OK, since I don't know why BCP760 causes that issue, I did a new mod, where the size of the modified 0F module is remained now. Unfortunately BCP760 doesn't allow to replace this module, so I had to delete and re-insert it again.
We have to go by try and error now;).
http://rapidshare.com/files/152405218/A6742IMS_DELL_SSV2_BCP760_D_I_SAME_SIZE.rar.html
To realise that I had to use another Dell SLIC (it's now DELL M07.)
Your turn......:D
New more ideas to try are:
-to use a older version of BCP
-to make another kind of mod. (PCI)
-to stick with previous modded bios, use grace period at every new installation, do your install tests and finally activate it when you've decided not to test anymore:p

This one was more difficult to modify, since I had to edit more strings to get down the size. I hope someone dares to try my new suggestion (must be able to recover for that.)

Btw: Your other request was P45 Neo2 as well, but it was version 3.7.....
3.2 is newver that 3.7. Why? I don"t know.
The mod I've done was done the SSV2 way. It should work. But I had to edit more strings than usual. Anyway you always should be able to make a recovery playing with bios.....

Try this:
http://rapidshare.com/files/150848172/7375v21.zip
SLIC = Dell
Flash from DOS like this: afud4234 /iA7375NMS.210 /pbnc /n
You can use DMI tools to insert "Dell Computer" for XP activation or wait for Yen to make a mod with SLP1 for you.

Oh!
This is a old AMI core7 bios. I was able to extract and to modify the 0F module, but no one of the tools were able to rebuild that bios. Neither BCP760 / AMIBCP 7.5X nor MMtool 2.22...so far, when I try to replace the 0F module, the tools crash.....:(
If anybody finds a working tool for rebuild.....
Can you send me the modified 0F module? I successfully extracted the module, but didn't know how to change it. I have already read your post 38, but still confused. ;)
I have attached the unmodified 0f module, if you have deleted it.
Thanks in advance.
Greetings Obelix
Edit: Maybe this could be the issue?
MSI BUG MSI BUG MSI BUG *** PLEASE NOTE *** MSI BUG MSI BUG MSI BUG
The AMIBCP program contains a bug in is colour menu mode that will corrupt the BIOS on MSI motherboards (I'm sure other brands are an issue as well though I've not had any reports as yet), this bug does not occur when the program is used in command line mode. Use the following command from the command line to replace the built in module with the modified one, then flash your modified BIOS into the motherboard.
AMIBCP bios.bin /R fullhack.bin 20 /M 0D30 105A

Edit: Maybe this could be the issue?
The way to mod 0F module is not explained here at thread ;) My instructions are for core8 bios, not core7.
So it's sure confusing..:D
Try to extract and delete 0f module. Modify one zero byte for test. After that try to insert 0F.rom again. (I was not able to do that).
or:
Try to replace it using replace command:
bcp760 yourbios.rom /R 0F.rom /0F or
bcp760 yourbios.rom /R 0F.rom /0F /M 0000 0000
Yourbios.rom = your bios
0F.rom = filename of extracted (and modified) 0F module.
I was not able to do that as well. (tool crashed to desktop) so replace command didn't work as well:(
I'll try it again and will make the 0F modification.
If we can manage to rebuild your bios it'll be no problem to make the final steps for the mod after it.

Edit: Maybe this could be the issue?
It's me again. I've tried all I know again and wasn't able to rebuild that bios.:(
Btw: This successful mod:
http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showpost.php?p=38286&postcount=158
contains the same 0F module as found at your bios. If you want you may extract it. Please note the RSDT entry points to SLIC at bios-offset 10h. So you have to insert a complete DELL M07 SLIC at offset 10h of the biosfile and to append byte 89h (remain bios checksum) to make it final..........but first you have to replace or to re-insert the modified 0f module.
MSI bioses were and are always strange.....I'm sorry....

yen how come modbin can never open my bioses?
@beppe_7
Modbin is made for Award bioses only. For AMI bioses you have to use MMtool / AMIBCP 3.X....

Just for interest: Have you tried the AMIBIOS.ROM recovery method?
Petar instructed to use the switches to update bios. The bootblock will be updated. This is always a higher risk and is NOT needed at SSv2 modifications.......

Thanks again Yen for your support,
but i think i have to give up. It tried all bios tools posted here and all tools from bnobtc. It also tried the win32 utils in Win98 (vmware) and the dos utils in Dos 6.2 (also vmware). Maybe i give a look on an older BIOS version later.
The only thing i'm succesfully able to do, is renaming modules. My idea was to rename the module and delete/replace it then or insert a new 0f module and leave the old one renamed in the bios file, but i have no luck at all. Sometimes i got a strange respose, that the BIOS ist already full, if i try to insert a new module (packed 900 Bytes, unpacked 39kbyte). But the bcp760 says, there are more then 100 kb free memory left. I's really annoying. The mmtool 2.22 hangs straight, if i enter the "power mm tool". Newer one's are unable to recognize the bios at all.
Next time i'll watch out to order a mainboard with phoenix bios. Editing the phoenix bios was really simple.
Greets Obelix
Yes, only chance to get a working mod is to try to mod a older (another) version of your bios.
If you have found one which works with a tool, I'll of course make the mod for you.......

guys just like yen said. do not use the boot block switch! flash the bios first without touching the bootblock in the event of a no boot this way you can use the recovery method! then once u flash and all is well boots fine. then go back and reflash with the bootblock switch! i do this always to b on the safe side

99 / 1 if you don't use the additional switches of afudos.:D (usual risk, 1 turn out of 100 is going bad, statistically;))
Also AMIBOOT.ROM recovery should work if you don't use the switches..........
@winvirus
The way to I've already provided here:

I have not been using switches for this reason...A lot of posts include them, I try not to for recovery purposes, as you just mentioned..
Thanks for your help..:D
You are an inspiration, for sure...
p.s. Do you have problems getting 1B module down in size from time to time..I have been having some good luck, but this one for winvirus is giving me a headache:p

Thanks.
Yes, you may edit 'American Megatrends, Inc.' string as well (found bellow AMIBIOS 08 string. Edit them to 20h (space). I've updated my instructions, since I've tried that successfully already.
You may edit both of them. MSFT I've left alone so far. Any TEXT string is a potential string for edit. (no code)
If you want, please mod guig's bios as well. I'm very tired and have to quit now....thanks. always appreciate new modders activity.:)
And please ad byte 89h as described as last step......to leave checksum of bios untouched is IMO the best way.
Good luck!;)

This was easy to modify! Why?
1b module is prepared to have a SLIC. Just rename it to SLEC and delete its contents. (Fill with zero bytes) You'll get a lot of compressible space;)
