Some important words from XBIOSES:
Below you have some of the items that you should put in a request.
-Motherboard Manufacturer and Model (e.g. ASUS-A8N SLI PREMIUM).
-Bios revision. (e.g. 1302).
-Bios Type (e.g. AMI/AWARD/PHOENIX/INTEL).
-Bios Link. (e.g. ftp://dlsvr02.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/s...emium/1302.zip )
By doing this you will make it easier for the person that will be modding your bios for you.
After the Bios mod is done and tried, you must report the mod results, in order to uptade the list of modded Bios.
How to report:
-Motherboard Manufacturer, Model and Bios revision(e.g. ASUS-A8N PREMIUM 1303).
-VISTA (Activated/Not Activated)
-Name of the Modder
-Modded bios Link
-Screenshot of Activation (optional)
-Obs.
Remember without your report our work is useless.
Thank You for your cooperation!
XBIOSES scheme is really useful and has proven that. So please use it.
BIOS from China4ever:
Motherboard Manufacturer and Model : Epox 9NPA+Ultra
- Bios revision: 6811 (9npa6811)
- Bios Type : AWARD
- Bios SLIC : ASUS
- Bios Modder : China4Ever
- Bios Link = http://rapidshare.com/files/33514526..._SLIC.zip.html
I tried this BIOS as well, and then niether Windows XP or Vista would boot. I then tried to reinstall Vista from scratch on it, and the install crashes. I had to flash back to get my computer to work. I also trie the YEN one:
-Motherboard Manufacturer and Model-Epox 9NPA+Ultra
-Bios revision- 6811 (9npa6811)
-Bios Type Phoenix-Award BIOS v6.00PG
-Vista activated by Paradox
-ID:
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0057&SUBSYS_10111695&REV_A3
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0057&SUBSYS_10111695
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0057&CC_068000
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0057&CC_0680
-Bios Link to PCI mod: http://rapidshare.com/files/44789285..._SLIC.rar.html
This one would boot, but the activation does not work. Maybe this is a hard one to crack. I may try it myself when I get the time to go through the steps. Thanks for everyones hard work on these BIOS's. Even if mine does not work, I know that most do. You guys are great.
@Dpain:
To enable SLIC at this kind of mod you must set at bios: boot from LAN to enable and the boot order / priority boot from LAN to first position. Have you done this before?

Maybe being his own Vista previously activated by Paradox, MBR or FAT could be corrupted by previous activation tool, who cares.
Anyway I can mod it again (but I lost original Epox bios link).

Go to BIOS setup and switch off the boot disk option. You need to change boot priority.

Just for informational purposes. Both the Vista and WinXP on this machine were legit copies that just blue screen and reboot after the BIOS upgrade. I am on Software Assurance and have the business editions of both of them. I am testing your BIOS hack just because I'm a geek that way. Besides, If I wreck my MOBO it's an excuse to upgrade :) Thanks for the quick reply.

You did all the activation steps after using the right SLP OEM key for business edition and applied Asus certificate? You removed softmod completely?
If yes, you can install Everest or even better AcpiScope and watch for a present SLIC. If not found the mod don't work. Or please wait for a new one made by China4Ever. PCI-mods are only a few done so far. The method is a alternative method tried at picky bioses.

I did install the correct SLP oem key and the asus cert. This is a fresh install with no soft mod. I just installed AcpiScope trial and can't see SLIC anywhere, but I am not sure where to look either. The search does not seem to work in it to find SLIC. I did a BIOS mod on an ECS board that worked perfectly with a friend of mine. I just wanted to try it on my 9NPA+ Ultra motherboard. Thanks for all your help so far.

1. ?? You mean you have a floppy drive, but no floppy disc? Or no drive at all?
In bios there is something like "boot up floppy seek", just disable it. If you want to disable it completely change "floppy disc access controller" to disable. This you should do if you don't have a floppy drive at all. Additionally you should set the boot priority of the floppy drive behind of your HDD and DVD! Except you need it again to boot up with it (e.g. flash a new bios;))
2. AFAIK was Compaq bought up by HP and the HP SLIC matches with the Compaq cert as well. HP is continuing to sell Notebooks as Compaq notebooks, but it's no discrete company anymore.

Please could this new bios be modified with HP/Compaq SLIC please, I am using the old ASUS SLIC bios from before but I think Microsoft has sussed me out! I now keep getting Licence error (after 3 months no problems) it says it is no longer activated  but when i look i can see it still says Windows Activated!! They probably want to scare me:p
Motherboard Manufacturer and Model: Abit AW9D-MAX
Bios revision: M606C_15/ ID:15
Bios Type : Phoenix /Award
Bios Link : ftp://ftp-usa.abit.com.tw/pub/download/bios/aw9d//aw9d15.zip
or found at: ftp://ftp.abitshop.com/pub/bios/aw9d//aw9d15.zip
SLIC Requested: HP/Compaq
Does anyone know of a Dixons/Ei-Systems XRM-MS file? I cannot find one anywhere as i would like to test my E-3089UK Laptop on Vista, i think it has a half-slic unsure as it does not like me looking at the ACPI section in Everest - crashes it out? Surely they not protected a cheapo lappy like that? I can't even find a bios file for it to have someone look, I have tried to save the bios but I cannot save a "working" file, WinPlash says invalid file, odd as it just saved it out!
Many thanks

I wonder if because my DMI information was set to HP it somehow flagged up it was not an "Asus" ? I wonder if M$ are checking the DMI information as well as the SLIC when doing these Windows Updates along with the WGA checks?
I have now set my DMI to be Hewlett-Packard as the name for system & motherboard and the Model as a6100 - on HP's site as a Vista system (which almost matches my system's specs C2Duo cpu etc). My other system is set as HP DMI (for XP use) and _Asus_for Vista, i will see if that flags up sometime, if it does maybe they are checking DMI as well.... Sneaky! - If so I will report my findings.....
Once again, Many thanks.
Also to all modders, without your help (and understanding translated information), none of this would be possible. You are all much appreciated. :)

Simply run command prompt with admin rights and type :
SLMGR.VBS -ILC C:\ASUS.XRM-MS (be sure to have ASUS.XRM-MS cer file into C:\) and press enter. Wait 7 seconds until a popup window appears then type
SLMGR.VBS -IPK XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
and press enter, where xxxxx is the serial number (I hope you know which).
Wait 7 seconds, until a confirmation windows appears, then check your activation status. That's all.

SYMPTOMS
You may be prompted to activate Windows Vista on a computer on which Windows Vista activation was not previously required. For example, this problem may occur on a computer where Windows Vista was preinstalled by an OEM or by using a Volume Licensing installation. The problem does not occur on Retail versions of Windows Vista. For example, the problem does not occur if you purchased Windows Vista and installed the operating system on a computer yourself.

Tried the new version and got the same result. However, I loaded optimized defaults on reboot and the problem went away. Vista activated and system running fine. I lost the documentation to this board long ago, but I would suspect that I was required to load optimized defaults after flashing the bios. Bottom line: the mod works!
Thanks again for all of your help.......I really appreciate it. I think this should do it as I am Vista O/S on everything now.

-Bios revision: 1.13

Might help:
SLIC Tool- http://www.bizcom-us.com/support/IFL9091/BIOS/SLP20Tool.zip
Crisis Tool-http://www.bizcom-us.com/support/IFL9091/BIOS/FWCrisisTools.zip
Looks like they have a tool to help insert SLIC table in their BIOS. I couldn't get it to work however. Tried on BIOS revision 1.12. Have not tired on 1.13.
Crisis Tool is to help people who flashed and bricked their laptop. Never tried it.
Here is the change notes from 1.12 to 1.13:

Glad you're back, China4evr! Can you work on this when you get a chance, please? Thanks!
PS: the 1.12 version didn't work. :( Hopefully v1.13 is more compatible with SLP2.0 (as indicated by the readme).
Maybe you could try this. I know how SLP2.0 works (read carefully readme.txt file and you'll learn how use it). Anyway I used a new method, adding asus slic, and it should work.
Try please.

This is a response to the original modding thread.
I just want to report back about this mod, I couldn't find the original requester having done so. Works like a charm, Vista activated and validated.
One note though - for some reason you can't use the EZ Flash BIOS utility to update the BIOS (complains something about "Boot block not valid") - it has to be done with AFUDOS. Others might have pointed this out, but I didn't browse through all the posts...
Thanks for doing a good job!

Still ends with a dead BIOS.
Flash goes okay, it asks me to reboot. I do. The screen stays black.
Boy I am happy i got a USB floppy drive.
EDIT: Almost starting to be a routine, recovering bad flashes :D :P
I have tried to mod it as well. I'm curious! Since you are able to recover it's real fun :D

There is no SLIC in the bios. You have to request for a mod if you want or try to modify it by yourself.
BTW: There are two different bios versions in the archive you've provided.

I'm sorry, some things with greater importance came up :)
If something went really wrong I'd log onto here with one of the 3 other computers in the house ^^
Hmmm. Install AcpiScope please and goto file-->load acpi info from bios (or something like that). Save report file and upload. I have to analyze to see what I can do. No, flashing again doesn't change the facts.
It seems that something prevents the mapping of SLIC.
Yen
P.S. No prob. I did a mod some months before. The guy didn't reply and caused a unrecoverable black screen. That is far off my intension!

Oooh. Thats no fun. However, its his own fault. He knew the risk.
I downloaded ACPIScope and saved the report or whatever it is. It is attatched to this message :)
I'd love to buy Vista, but in the country where i am located, it costs 750 USD, and as a student, that is WAY off my budget.
I am very greateful to you Yen, and the others smart resourceful ppl out there running this community :)
O.K. Thanks a lot. It'll take some time to analyze it. I'll reply for sure. If not today anymore then next day...
BTW: That guy wasn't angry with me. As his Laptop came back from repair I was able to mod his bios. The no-go brought me into the right direction. This was the least I could do for him....
Yen
One more question: Shows everest a table called test? I assume not!
Edit: The RSDT and the XSDT table have got the right OEM and OEM table ID, but nothing more. I have to look what's up with that special slp2.0 command. I'lll try a new mod tomorrow. Did you flash the rom or the wph file?
O.K. IMO my mod flashed right cause we used the BBL command which flashes the bootblock as well. This is the difference to the other trials. The other mods cause not a black screen because of modifying the code. I really think it hasn't appeared cause of the additional BBL command. You can try to flash the mod again using the slp command:

I tried to flash again, using the command you provided (The /PF=SLP2 thing).
And it BOOTS :D
When i loook in Everest now, it shows me a TEST table, and SLIC table.
However Vista ain't to keen about avtivating.
I tried to "slmgr -upk" --> reboot --> "slmgr -ilc Asus certificate" --> "slmgr -ipk XXXXX-2PCG6-XXXXX-FWK9V-932CC" --> reboot --> reboot. When i check the activation status, it says it is 15 days till I have to activate.
Almost got it now? Or what?
New ACPIScope file attatched.
I'm at work and don't have the tools here! Later in about 4 hours I'll have a look again. I hope we'll finally succeed!;)
Edit: This is one of the strangest bios I've ever seen!! The SLIC is in now, but the oem and the oem table ID were RESET with Compal and CRESTLNE at RSDT and XSDT table. New idea:
Flash again using: PHLASH16 BIOS.WPH /X /MODE=3
Clue: SLP2 data (SLIC) I hope will stay while BIOSCOD1.ROM will be updated.
I exactly need to know at your first flash did you use *.rom or wph file? And at the second flash, same as well?
IMO the mod is done, but how to flash the data properly??

Use afudos.
I just used the Asus update Windows flasher and it worked but there is one slight problem. Windows is activated and everything works great but now when I exit the BIOS the system shuts down and sometimes I have to shut off power for a few seconds to restart. It's a small problem and not a big deal, If noboby else is having this issue, I may try reflashing and see if it's any better.
Thanks for the help
Yes, use Afudos and load setup defaults after it. Additionally you can clear cmos. I assume the original bios don't have this issue?

Hi Yen and others on this great forum! :)
Yen
I too have Compal IFL90 notebook with latest Phoenix BIOS 1.13.
http://www.compal.com/Download/NB/IFL90_91/BIOS/IFT00113.zip
Before that I try 1.12 mods from you, China4Ever and Fzeven - all give me black screen after flash. I have made Crisis recovery floppy disk with original 1.13, so it's no problem. Now I read that haXXa successfull flash your 1.13 mod. It's strange but I can't - WPH mod with /BBL and/or /PF=SLP2 give me black screen and ROM mod just not go flashing with error like "Failed to locate signature bytes in PLATFORM.BIN". :( I use bootable CD with DOS for flashing.
Found some info about how to embed info in this bios for Vista, maybe it's useful: http://www.bizcom-us.com/support/IFL9091/BIOS/SLP20Tool.zip
Please Follow those steps to create a BIOS for Vista with SLP2.0

Phoenix bioses are the hardest, but only at Sony Vaio I had to give up so far.
Nothing has changed at 3rd flash. You can try a next flash like the first again to see if RSDT and XSDT OEM changes again to _ASUS_ Notebook.

- Bios Revision : Recent F5 Revision

- One have ACTIVATED
I have combined recently published F5 revision bios image of my mainboard with ASUS IASUS.BIN from YEN's -all in one set of oem certificate/isa rom combinations-. I have two identical PCs flashed with it. One have success.:) But the other that have DELL ulimate edition hasn't. Finally, i am wondering on how to change "PRODUCT ID" to any other other than DELL's. "Product id type" refers as 2 OEM SLP. Please PM or e-mail if necessary.
Thank you all developers and testers, for very recent achivements.
With YEN's help, DELL OS has been ACTIVATED too, details from my last report post below.
As I said in previos post slmgr stuff hasn't worked on dell os gigabyte bios/asus module.
Then, as you told in prior message I have tried changing tokens.dat from activated genuine pc, it hasn't worked also mgaDiag report detail was same as with previous "product id" and "product id type":2 - SLP OEM.
Then I have managed to combine dell isa module to intact bios image of my gigabyte ga-945gcmx-s2 module as you have proved its ability. Then, yes it overall ACTIVATED on DELL os over gigabyte bios/dell module. I think DELL logoed vista ultimate rules DELL module for any machine even if key (...-932CC) matches for any, because of there a lot of credentials to match between certificate and os. As I remember i haven't tried using dell certificate over asus moduled bios, as they are not paired together.

Nothing has changed at 3rd flash. You can try a next flash like the first again to see if RSDT and XSDT OEM changes again to _ASUS_ Notebook.
Yen
RSDT and XSDT still reports OEM ID as Compal, and OEM Table ID as Crestline...
You said something about a new mod... Any progress?
Thank you

I am still here, I just have to wait for the notebook to be sent back to me... I did not have a USB floppy, in addition to not knowing about the recovery tool when I tried the last flash. One I get the notebook back I will continue with you.
Sorry about the delay, hopefully I will better understand the recovery procedure next go around.
Wonder where that other guy wanting IFL90 bios has gone

O.K. Now I know that the additional SLP parameter is responsible for that.
Yes, I did a new mod already. But I'm trying to get a Compal SLIC and the matching certificate. Once I've got them it will be only a matter of time to activate your Laptop. Do you know anybody who has got it?
The SLIC I'm trying to get from another compal bios, but the cert:confused:.
If I don't find it I'll post the link to the new mod.

Unfortainly Compal got no OEM deal with Microsoft, so i don't think there exists any Compal Cert/Key :(

I only had the notebook for 1day lol... Still under warranty
That was why I PM so may questions about how people recovered on this pc with failed flash. I just with the recovery method was easier to understand and then I would have recovered on my own.
I really want to help get this figured out since the IFL90 series is extremely popular all around the world.
Anyway as soon as I get it back I will be helping once again.

Lol...
I am used to forums where it is a big red box saying when i get a new PM. I had 5 PMs, and i didn't know :(
About recovering on IFL90/90+/91, you'll have to insert a USB floppy in the "upper right" usb port. At least i had to.
Then, with no battery, and the cable not plugged in, i inserted the floppy with the recovery software and bios inside it. I held FN+B while inserting the power cord. While still holding FN+B i pressed the power button. When the drive begins to read you can let FN+B go. Be away for half an houer, just to be sure it's done. Unplug power. Unplug floppy drive. Insert battery and boot as normal :D
I've done this 4 times already :D
Later I'll upload the recovery sofware for the floppy.

I don't understand.
Unfortainly Compal got no OEM deal with Microsoft, so i don't think there exists any Compal Cert/Key :(
I thought there could be a Compal SLIC, because in your bios there is a Compal SLIC already, but it's empty! And they are talking about the SLP2 flash parameter to flash the bios. Additionally they are providing a tool to add a SLIC into their bios, which I've tried. The SLIC is patched successfully into the bios. But IMO it'll not work with a ASUS SLIC, but I'll keep it in case we'd need it!
Anyway I searched at other compal bioses and at Chinese websites and didn't find it:(
Here is the new mod! I edited more oem and oem table id's to Asus. From somewhere has to come the compal and the cestlne string.
The final solution would be to edit ALL the those strings to _ASUS_ Notebook :D
I extended the bios name with a "b".
To flash this you have to use this full command, since it's a new mod.
phlash16 /x /s /mode=3 /PF=SLP2 /BBL IFT00113b.WPH
You can rename the bios to the original one to remain the 8 + 3 DOS structure.

Make the floppy disk and replace the bios. It's a safe ISA mod. At some cases this kind of SLIC injection don't work.
