Hello zort, Yen or China4Ever.
Thanks for your time. I posted a request for my DFI LP JR M3H5 bios but i noticed when using everest and acpiscope that there was no SLIC visual. What can be done to mod my bios if this is not visible with those tools. Can it be done? :)
-Motherboard Manufacturer and Model (DFI LP JR M3H5).
-Bios revision. (6.00 PG).
-Bios Type (Phoenix Tech/AWARD).
-Bios Link (http://img.lanparty.tw/Upload/BIOS/CM/D7JD424.zip)
-SLIC = Uknown

you always say after having modded a BIOS "Flash from DOS if possible. Clear CMOS and load defaults after flash." What does this mean?
Is it correct to follow the following steps?
- Flash your Bios from DOS
- after successful Flash restart computer
- go to BIOS Setup to load factory defaults (select Load Optimized Defaults)
- shut down computer
- power off power supply and unplug the power cord
- set the clear CMOS jumper
- remove the battery from the battery holder and wait for 2 minutes
- press power button to reset the remainig tension
- Replace the battery, plug in the power cord and restart your computer
- go to BIOS Setup to load factory defaults (select Load Optimized Defaults)
- now let the computer load the operating system
- now restart the PC
- go to BIOS Setup to modify the settings as they were before the Bios Flash
and restart PC
Can somebody say me if this step by step is O.K. ???

I have searched the forum and this MB is not listed. (Although, the kissing-cousin M3A790GXH/128M is listed, the BIOS versions are different.)

Hello Mr Been,
Looks good to me, except you do not need to load the OS then change the settings you had before you did anything with the BIOS. Just go directly the BIOS and change the settings you want save and exit.

After clearing cmos and loading the defaults, you can simply restart and reset your bios to your preferences. You need not boot to OS first. You may need to set boot drive, etc.
You also do not need to remove the battery, if you have a cmos jumper... IMO.
You can just unplug the machine, set jumper for a min or so, reset jumper and fire it up. It need not be a long, extended process..:D

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm assuming that you (someone?) has already determined that the BIOS File for that MB (A790GMH/128M) is the exact same file used for my MB (A790GXH/128M)? I need to be sure this is the right file. (For obvious reasons, of course) Thanks to you as well for the prompt replies.

Most excellent, friend. As I'm a bit new to this particular bit of digital wizardry, can I choose any manufacturer I'd like since I homebuilt my rig? If so, if ASRock is an option, might as well go with that. Thanks again! (Can't say that too often, right?)

I had to be sure that the model number confusion was settled first m8. You guys run a pretty tight ship around here, I'm wishing I'd found this sooner!

Works by me urie. One last question, on the outside chance that I bork the flash, hwo can I go about recovering if I don't have a floppy? Will the USB ports still boot? Or will I have to bite the bullet and go buy a throwaway floppy drive?
Thanks for the very quick turnaround, and all the help too!

you can make a bootable usb thumbdrive look here:
http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showthread.php?t=2105 that will let you flash you bios but be warned you cannot recover ASRock bioses they have removed the recovery code.

Hmmmmmm, so if it tanks I have a really expensive air-soft target board, eh? In your vastly superior experience, is it worth taking the flash route? Or should I just go the 'loader' route? (I am moderate-to-"junior expert" computer user. I've flashed BIOS before I've just never tinkered with them beforehand.)

Like 1234s282 explained (http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showthread.php?t=5575) there is nothing to unlock. If you'd like a SLIC mod, we can do that. If you're interested in overclocking you should get an enthusiast mb like Asus or Gigabyte. Prebuilt computers have very limited bios features.

There is a HP SLIC in the ACPITBL.bin module which is INCOMPLETE. Even though you see that it is useless. The SLIC that is added as 'nocompress' 0+2 method is HP SLIC 2.1
I don't see an issue since you have activated Vista. Once WIN7 is out and if there are issues report back and we can take a look at this again.
Hope this helps. :D

It didn't really need the SLP mod because the original bios already has "ASUSTeK Pegasus" but now it has "ASUS_FLASH" too.

Software Licensing Information Code..
It is code in the BIOS that coincides with the certificate in the OS to allow offline activation. You need three things for offline OEM activation:
1-OEM serial number
2-Certificate for the OEM in question
3-Matching certificate in the OS.
If any one is missing...no activation
I find it a bit humorous that with all of the stickies and other info in these forums, you still ask this question..It show how hard you have been looking..:D
Thanks for the effort!!:p This is getting old...

Just extract the original bios you download from HP, inside the extracted folder you will find "flash.exe" run it after you replace the .rom file with the modified one.

So please 911medic can you check your mod again, this board is orginally is ASUS board manufactured for HP.
As i know this method of moding "pkey/marker" is working fine with ASUS boards????
This is a problem with WINFLASH..you should flash all bios from DOS..The mod is fine..

Flash with AFUDOS /iN68SASUS.40

Hope it works for you too. Flash as always at your own risk.

Unfortunately I was not able to flash the moded bios because of the error massage "invalid windows license in bios can’t update the bios"
If the current bios doesn't have pubkey/marker and you try to update to one that does using awdflash.exe you'll get the "invalid license" error and it won't update. Apparently that is the case with the Award WinFlash utility too. The only way to update to this kind of mod would be if the bios had a built-in flash utility (I don't think yours does) or possibly with a third party flash utility like uniflash. I'd recommend just using the 0+2 mod since it works OK.
There is another way the bios could be modded which is to remove the first microcode update to make space and move the modded ACPITBL to the end. With that method there would only be one SLIC but it would be riskier to try.

It will require special attention. The good news is there is a pubkey/marker already at offset 10000, so we should be able to mod it. We can try replacing the pubkey/marker with a new one and update oemid's in 1B. It is MSI AMI though so 1B compressed size needs to stay the same. I can't do it tonight but hopefully one of us will be able to do it soon for you.

Hello Andy,
I have given up on the Tyan S2721 Motherboard as something must have failed on it. I have tried both of your bios and the stock and it will no longer boot into Vista even from the CD. I have spent the last couple of weeks swapping/replacing various components and same result. I want to say a BIG Thank You for generating the bios for it. I wish I could have tested them properly. I have now installed and have running a Tyan S5350 Motherboard. Can you help with the bios for this one? If so I will post the links to the bois in the proper format in another thread.... again Thank you!!!

Thank you very much for your help.
I did another thing yesterday, I use awardtool109 and mod it with ISA method
It works fine I check with EVEREST there is only one SLIC2.1 also RW-Everything confirm that.
My knowledge is very limited regarding bios modding, I don’t know what is ISA or 0+2 or Pkey/marker or SSV1/2/3, I just use the automated tool and did it. If you can help me and just explain in short what is the differences between these methods, and if ISA is good for me or not.
Thank you in advance

Looking for some help here. I have the MSI P6N Diamond motherboard. I could get the modded BIOS from the appropriate thread which has the SLIC2.0 for ASUS and it activates well. However, I am looking for a BIOS mod with SLP=HP and SLIC2.1=HP. Can someone please mod it for me? I tried using Andy's tool but it fails as I cannot select SSV3 method in the tool and the BIOS cannot be modded with SSV2.
The product link is this (http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1168).
The BIOS can be got from here (http://download3.msi.com/files/downloads/bos_exe/7320v13.zip).
Thanks for your time.

Please try one of those and install the appropriate cert (http://www.box.net/shared/rx9t2h9lz6).
When someone needs a v2.1 SLIC we can redo it, but there isn't a Sony v2.1 SLIC yet.
I tried using Andy's tool but it fails as I cannot select SSV3 method in the tool and the BIOS cannot be modded with SSV2.
The tool will let you do SSV3 if you select "Other" for Manufacturer.

I'll give it a shot. I did not know that. This shows that I should read more! :p
Yeah, that did it. Thanks Zort.
Now one more question. Since I have the option to mod with any SLIC2.1, which one should I choose so that once RTM for Windows 7 is released, I will just have the get the cert once it is leaked and use it to activate my copy. In other words, which certificate is expected to be leaked first? :D
which certificate is expected to be leaked first? :D
I don't know which will be first, but I expect certs for all the major brands will leak before Oct 22. ;)
For halaween:

You should use the ISA mod that you made-- it sounds like that's the best option for that bios. ISA works with a lot of Award bioses but not all (especially not for newer Gigabytes).
pubkey/marker - adds public key & marker modules to end of bios. Mostly works for Asus mb. No existing modules are modified.
0+2 - adds no compress module containing slic to end of bios. Adjusts system and acpitbl modules.
isa - adds an isa module to end of bios that with code to add the slic during boot. No existing modules are modified.

hi Zort
Yen also if i can get your opinion ??
I flashed the first mod, i select to update everything, on the boot the HP bios boot screen logo has gone, no SLIC information presnt in neither EVEREST
nor ACPIscope, i made my self SSV3 mod with HP SLIC2.1, flashed successfuly, still no HP boot screen logo, but SLIC present in EVEREST and acpiscope but i fail to activate VISTA (using slmgr.vbs for certificate and key).
finally i flashed the original HP bios using universal AMI flasher (from windows) because the HP setup utility giving error (your system does not meet the minimum requirement for this update, update will be cancelled),
after flash and boot still HP bios boot screen logo does not came back.
i reflashed from dos with the same results.
This is very strange for me because now i am not able to get back to HP original bios with SLIC2.0, it looks like the bios is booting using minimal setting or configuration (only does screen not like before graphical screen), and inspite of EVEREST and ACPIscope showing there is SLIC but VISTA refuse to activate
Any idea what has happened?????
Is this kind of HP bios protection
How i can now go back to the original status.

The 5.35 bios I posted also has the logo and full HP SLIC. (I don't know why they aren't showing up for you but some motherboards have a lock that blocks dynamic.)
Try updating to the SSV3 mod again, and then dump the bios to a file with afudos and upload both for us to compare:
afudos /obios.bin
Also dump SLIC table from RAM for us to check. (There are different ways of doing it. You could try this (http://forums.mydigitallife.info/announcement.php?f=4).)
Please MOD this BIOS:

Thank you Zort for your help.
First of all this logo was not the logo which shown before with the same bios that one is blue screen with HP in the middle.
Any how i update to mod SSV3 with HP SLIC2.0, here the mod and the bios dump file.
The moded bios: http://www.sendspace.com/file/gttz6h
The dump file: http://www.sendspace.com/file/y0rxdu
The acpiscope report: http://www.sendspace.com/file/0xytyj
The RW-Everything is freezing searching for ACPI, RSD, PTR,.....
so i was not able to upload the RW report.
Even the SLIC2.0 is present now but i could not activate VISTA, install the certificate and SLP OEM key but nothing happen.
I also flash the 5.35 bios which you tel that it has full SLIC, but it is not shown in my case attached report from acpiscope.
It looks like the HP installer itself is playing the role, because this problem occure when i flash using the afuwin flash utility and i select to update everything "at that point the logo and SLIC gone". after that the HP installer refuse to run in my system"because it is not meeting the minimum requirement for update"
what do you think??

Hi:
I need a Bios modification with the following bios.
BIOS Type: Award Modular
BIOS Version: F2D
Award BIOS Type: Award Modular BIOS v6.0PG
Motherboard Name: Gigabyte GA-M52L-S3P nForce 520LE Socket AM2+
Slic Table Name: Cannot find any reference to Slic in ACPI
Download Link for BIOS: BIOS Upgrades: http://europe.giga-byte.com/FileList/BIOS/mb_bios_ga-m52l-s3p_f2d.exe
Alternative Bios Download Link: http://china.giga-byte.com/FileList/BIOS/mb_bios_ga-m52l-s3p_f2d.exe
Source of BIOS Update: http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/BIOS_Model.aspx?ProductID=3008#anchor_os (http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/BIOS_Model.aspx?ProductID=3008#anchor_os)
I want a SLIC 2.1 that is backward compatible with Vista and Server 2008.
Will I also need a SLP for 2.1 that is backward compatible with Vista and Server 2008?
I did attempt to modify the bios myself using AndyP's Award Mod Tool 1.09....if you want to check it out to see if I did it correctly download the Bios File from the following link: http://www.box.net/shared/hgh3iirea5. I did not use an SLP. I did use an HP 2.1 SLIC and a HP Vista Certificate. Let me know if this is all I need or do you need to do more to it.....the original bios is included in this download link.
The method I used is SSV3, Award Bios Tool 1.09.
Thank you

You did not say what you wanted it to be modded for, so I modded it for the same thing that I know works on my MSI board. I grabbed the latest bios for your board and I've added Dell SLIC 2.1, as well as Dell SLP. Update your bios with the original un-modified A7366NMS.360 file from dos with AFUD4281.exe first if you have not yet already, using no switches. Then update with the A7366NMS_SLIC.360 file, again from dos, no switches. Reboot, reset to defaults, save, reboot, then re-configure your bios.
Familiarize yourself with the MSI bios recovery procedures on their website before doing this if anything goes wrong, and then post back and let us know if it worked ok for you. Both the original un-modded file (A7366NMS.360) as well as the modded file (A7366NMS_SLIC.360) as well as the flash utility are in the archive for your convenience.

Finally i was able to restore the original bios for HP 6422.
This bios from HP coming with SLIC2.0, i tried so many ways to update this SLIC to HP SLIC2.1 using AMITool121.
1. Dynamic mod. after flash the bios still showing SLIC2.0
2. SSV3 mod. after flash the bios is showing SLIC2.0 + SLIC2.1
That means in both mods the original SLIC2.0 was not replaced, which means the SLIC information in that bios is in different location (not 1B), and the automatic tools is not able to locate it.
Can any of our experts look into this bios and try to mod it.

Can you provide a link to the latest version of the bios which is NOT modified? Tools won't allow me to insert SLIC 2.1 since there is already a 2.0 slic within it. Get the latest bios so that I can mod the latest one for ya.

I have a question....since I used the modified bios with an Asus Slic 2.0 on my gigabyte motherboard, am I going to be able to overwrite the 2.0 Asus Slic with a 2.1 Asus Slic without conflict?

The bios you made should work fine. SSV3 works best for Gigabyte and the v2.1 slics should work with both Vista & Win7. There isn't an Asus 2.1 SLIC yet, so just use the one you made with the HP SLIC and install the HP cert in Vista.

You are telling me to flash the bios with the original bios from Gigabyte and then flash the gigabyte bios with the new modified bios with the 2.1 Slic - In otherwords, do not flash the modified bios of the asus 2.0 slic with a 2.1 slic - am I reading you correctl?

You are telling me to flash the bios with the original bios from Gigabyte and then flash the gigabyte bios with the new modified bios with the 2.1 Slic - In otherwords, do not flash the modified bios of the asus 2.0 slic with a 2.1 slic - am I reading you correctl?
No, I thought you were going to replace the slic in a previously modded bios file. If you modded a fresh bios, then flash away..:D

Can you provide a link to the latest version of the bios which is NOT modified? Tools won't allow me to insert SLIC 2.1 since there is already a 2.0 slic within it. Get the latest bios so that I can mod the latest one for ya.

Hi,
Slic 2.1 for W7 oem on my Asus P5QL Pro ????
This is my ROM Bios:

Slic 2.1 for W7 oem on my Asus P5QL Pro ????
Please use this format for requests:
-Motherboard :
-Bios Revision :
-Bios Type :
-Bios SLIC :
-Bios Link :
When possible use the download link from the manufacturer. Ex:
ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/socket775/P5QL_Pro/P5QL-ASUS-PRO-1001.zip
v2.1 SLIC's that we have so far are: Dell, Fujitsu, HP, Lenovo, MSI, Toshiba. You would need to pick one of those.
Finally i was able to restore the original bios for HP 6422.
How did you flash when you did that?
This method from dos is needed in some cases:
afudos /ibios.bin /p /b /n /c
The dynamic method is the best option to avoid having 2 SLIC's.
But the Acpiscope report made at 07/03 11:32pm while using the SSV3 mod shows 1 SLIC with oem table id "SLIC-MPC" at address FF200h. Maybe the logo wasn't displaying then but that mod seems good as far as the SLIC is concerned. There weren't any extra SLIC's and it was the new one.

Hi Zort,
I restored the original bios using other PC with the same board, i use afuwin and make bios file from the rom of the other PC. then i flash the image using afuwin not the HP utility "because it is not working in my case as it is not detecting my PC as HP PC" i select to update all.
then everything restored back to it's original state, as i mentioned earlier that HP installer which coming with bios package have something to do with bios OEM information, because when i flash the 535.rom (from HP package) using standard afuwin flash tools and update everything then the resulted bios has no relation with HP even there is no SLIC present.
It looks like this HP installer first checking the platform and then patch the bios file before flash, please correct me if this is stupid idea, because everytime we made a mod and flash it, we found the original HP SLIC2.0 is present.

Hi halaween,
When you update all you may be losing DMI or other data that it is looking for to know which model it is, and maybe that's why the logo disappeared. It may not be necessary to update everything because only the 1B module is different. I don't think utility would make any changes to the file. It could update some areas of the bios and not others depending what is selected, but it should always update 1B. I don't know why the 2.0 SLIC persisted before, but I think the mods are worth trying again now that the PC is restored to original settings and since you can always restore it again if needed.

hi Zort,
The SLIC2.0 will persisted if i used HP installer, but if i mod a fresh .rom file from the HP installer package and flash it using afuwin and update everything then there will be only SLIC2.1 but the bios will not be HP bios, and is not going to activate VISTA like this case see attached acpiscope report.
I have before succeed with bios for HP 6041, but i think the case is different, it was AWARD bios and the mod is ISA, can we sue ISA method to mod this Phoenix bios?? forgive me if i am stupid
Hi halaween,
That acpiscope report looks good-- only one slic and it is the new one. That should activate Vista (SP1 or higher) if you install the right cert. ISA method only works for Award bios, so it can't be used for this one.

I tried all the ways but vista refuses to activate using the SLIC2.1, i use correct Key and certificate.
if i just flash the original HP bios then it is activated imediately

Part of the flash sequence is the erasure of code from the flash rom. When you say you are flashing "over" the SLIC 2.0, this is incorrect. When you flash the bios, You are removing(erasing) the old information (code), and reinserting new code. This is why repeated flashing brings increased risk. The more you remove and reinsert information, the greater chance of error doing same...simple prob stat...:D:D
At any rate, some of the code does not get removed and rewritten; the boot block specifically. Some of the folks here recommend a complete flash with new, unodded bios; then flash modded bios without switches..I say to flash the mod, then clear te cmos and load the defaults is sufficient in most cases..this cuts down on the probability of borked flash..Just my opinion:cool:
Enjoy the added function(?) with 02.1 SLIC (win7)...
