Apologies for the delay. Had a nightmare installing the new mobo due to having to slipstream the RAID drivers with the OS, then I was away.

Anyhow, bios installed without error, however the DELL WHS OEM doesn't seem to have picked up the SLP. I've tried it twice (just incase) and immediately sshutdown, cleared the CMOS and loaded defaults into the bios. No joy :(

OK - let me take a look at this later this evening. How about Vista activation - does that work?

I'm afraid I haven't tried Vista as it's my WHS machine.

Test for the proper strings in bios with the tools. Make sure you have the correct OEMBIOS files.

Oembios_tool in the program I gave you, the installer for changing the oembios tools, and it will input key. If you entered a key when you installed the WHS, it most likely will not activate...

I gave you the tools, use them and report the results...bios strings, etc.

these are the correct oembios for WHS..http://slics.myftp.org/WHS_OEMBIOS.rar

The oembios tool and replacer... (http://slics.myftp.org/VLK2OEM changer.exe)

You make a fair point. It's still 75% 'Black Magic' to me, but I would like to understand it more, so here goes...

The OEMBIOS Tool I'm guessing gives me the SLPs from my mobo bios? They're currently showing as:

F:Dell System OEMBIOS.CAT CRC=63875D1F
F:Dell System OEMBIOS.CAT CRC=B6F0EEFD
F:EliteGroup OEMBIOS.CAT CRC=8EE1223c
F:Hewlett-Packard OEMBIOS.CAT CRC=06D652A4
F:HP & Compaq OEMBIOS.CAT CRC=CD4E1902

Now the readme that comes with your VLK2OEM tools says..

"WHS activation requires OEMBIOS files from DELL, Hewlett-Packard, or IBM
CRC32 Values of:
Dell= C20D8FF5
IBM = F35DA4D2
Hewlett-Packard= D107C3EA"

Does that mean I need so see at least one of those CRCs in the OEMBIOS tool? Or does it mean the OEMBIOS files you provided will contain the correct values?

Thanks for being helpful and patient :)

The package has the correct oembios files. They are for server 2003. The tool will not show these crc32, as they are not in the ref. I just wanted to be sure the strings were present. Looks good so far, but I have not looked at the bios. I assume it is correct..:p I have faith in these guys....

Have you had the WHS activated before?? Did you install with a serial??

For most Asus boards SSV3 is the best option and yes I use the tool. Sometimes there will be a partial SLIC in the FC module, in which case you will need to use the Dynamic option. However, if there is a dummy slic in 1B module, you will need to check this option in the tool.

I flashed my mobo in pure DOS using FLASHSPI.EXE and BIOS P35CDS3R.12E.
Then run
30 in 1 Vista Ultimate AIO 28 OEM'S by ORBIT30 selecting ASUS.
Vista Ult 64 installed all the way, run updates (SP1 integrated in DVD), in control panel's System says that 30 days left to go as key for ASUS is incorrect.

I wonder is the BIOS mod in question actually does work for ultimate 64.

The bios mod works for all versions..the activators and such are suspect..Although ORBIT30 has some very good tools, this is not required.

Remove all traces of the activator..

You need to use a CLEAN DVD..no auto activating crap, no bootloaders, no activators.

Open an elevated prompt, type:

slmgr.vbs -ilk 6F2D7-2PCG6-YQQTB-FWK9V-932CC

then, with the asus cert in c:\ type:

slmgr.vbs -ilc c:\asus.XRM-MS

The certificate should be named asus for this to work.

I thought that by selecting ASUS DVD mod no software activators are loaded.
Does it mean that I need to reload the existing installation from 0 again?

Probably not.Just try to install the cert and serial as I mentioned..Lets see how this works first..

I do not know about the activator, but there is no need..Often the perceived "easy way" causes too many problems.

If the slmgr.vbs does not work..then get VOATKtools and see how that goes..

edit: The activation tool works very well.

You need to install the oem key as well as the certificate. Both are on the left upper panels. you need nothing on the right side of the tool.

I have a MSI Motherboard, and want add a SLIC table to my bios, in order to install VISTA OEM SP1 and SP2 but I regret that since my Bios is very old, I am unable to find any update links for the same. Also when i try to go to the Update link provided in the Display Of Information by Everest, I end up reaching a site called biosagentplus.com, which updates your bios for money, i.e. it is not FREE.

If you can search on the internet for my bios, I'll be glad. Otherwise please tell me any useful link that you think will help me find my bios.

My pc is a COMPAQ PRESARIO SR1130IL, and i have a micro ATX motherboard.

Hiya ;-)

Well A few days late, but I have my Machine now, and with a little research I am going to set it up tonite, and first flash a new 1003 factory bios. After that I'l flash one of my modded bios files and test it after a fresh install of an XP / Vista dual boot setting. I have the bios that was modded last week by Administrator at Bios Mods, that has an empty dummy SLIC... I also have one I that modded myself using AndyP's SLICTool which I found on this site ;-). Not 100% sure which one I am going to try first yet, although I am really leaning towards using the one I modded with much help from MDL & AndyP :D :D

Above are the links to all 3 files incase any one has any advice about these files before I am done putting all these parts into the case and installing 2 Windows OS's, late tonite, or maybee even tomorow morning depending on how fast I move and how well everything goes :)

Oh yeah :-D I am sooo much more comfortable in testing these flashes now that I have found out more about my newer style 8 pin pdip socket 8Mb bios chip, and I did find a place that sells replacement chips too (just incase)

8Mb 8PIN PDIP Bios Chip (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Asus-AM3-M4-Series-PDIP-BIOS-Chips_W0QQitemZ270394313549QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_M otherboards_CPUs?hash=item3ef4c1cb4d&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1262&_trkparms=|301%3A0|293%3A1|294%3A30)

SSV3 is fine..Probably preferable at this point. :D

You can also use any slic mfg you want.
Why do you think you need an HP slic??? Some people like the HP or Dell for the Server 2k8..for whatever reason,I dont know..

Thanks 911Medic once again for your gracious help....I went ahead and used the Asus Slic and Method SSV3....this is for my sister's computer....I did my brothers a few days ago, mine was also done a few days ago and now my sister and tomorrow will be my mom and dad's....lol.....

I meant to ask you this but forgot: My sister lives in NM and I am going to talk to her by teleconference over the internet and lead her through flashing her bios. Asus gave the flashing utility to be used and it is AFUDOS....Now, I went through their online instructions and it never said one thing about using switches. Should I use the following switch?

afudos /ilin64_slic.rom /i (I shortened and renamed the bios name to LIN64_SLIC.ROM) from L1N64-SLI-ASUS-WS-0505.ROM.

As a general rule, i just try to keep the SLIC/SLP as close to the manufacturer as possible...Some you cannot, but OEMs use a lot of different boards sometimes..Dell is usually proprietary, the rest is open to your interpretation.

Good luck, and have fun....:D:p

Forgive me but I'm lost now...the original file name is L1N64-SLI-ASUS-WS-0505.ROM which is more than 8 letters long. The Modified file is L1N64-SLI-ASUS-WS-0505_SLIC.ROM which adds more letters than 8.

I renamed the modified file with the asus slick to L1N64_SLIC.ROM. So, what name should I use? Should I rename the modified slic file to LIN64.ROM - would this work when flashing the bios?

Not 100% sure which one I am going to try first yet, although I am really leaning towards using the one I modded with much help from MDL & AndyP -

M4A78-PLUS-1003_SLIC.ROM (http://www.4shared.com/file/111247363/41c9c86e/M4A78-PLUS-1003_SLIC.html) <-AndyP's SLICTool v117

M4A78-PLUS-1003.ROM (http://www.4shared.com/file/111247380/4643b45a/M4A78-PLUS-1003.html) <-Factory

Above are the links to all 3 files incase any one has any advice about these files before I am done putting all these parts into the case and installing 2 Windows OS's, late tonite, or maybee even tomorow morning depending on how fast I move and how well everything goes

Oh yeah :-D I am sooo much more comfortable in testing these flashes now that I have found out more about my newer style 8 pin pdip socket 8Mb bios chip, and I did find a place that sells replacement chips too (just incase)

8Mb 8PIN PDIP Bios Chip (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Asus-AM3-M4-Series-PDIP-BIOS-Chips_W0QQitemZ270394313549QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_M otherboards_CPUs?hash=item3ef4c1cb4d&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1262&_trkparms=|301%3A0|293%3A1|294%3A30)

Ps - Attached is the log file from the SLICTOOL
Oh yeah - The Method was Dynamic...

Thanks a bundle guys

The bios mod works for all versions..the activators and such are suspect..Although ORBIT30 has some very good tools, this is not required.

Remove all traces of the activator..

You need to use a CLEAN DVD..no auto activating crap, no bootloaders, no activators.

Open an elevated prompt, type:

slmgr.vbs -ilk 6F2D7-2PCG6-YQQTB-FWK9V-932CC

then, with the asus cert in c:\ type:

slmgr.vbs -ilc c:\asus.XRM-MS

The certificate should be named asus for this to work.

Vista Keys and Certificates
- Keys can be found here - http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showthread.php?t=2581
- Certificates can be found here - http://rapidshare.com/files/118119842/39-CERTS.zip

All this was tried. The cleaner did not find anything to clean and activations suggested went through. The timer counted relentlessly down. I did a stupid thing and told that tool to re-arm the Vista and the counter dropped down to 15 days and counting....

Hello p4spooky...My mobo has Intel GMA3100..:)
The GMA3100 uses 256MB of shared memory and 128 MB of it's own bult memory.
There are settings in the bios that allow you to change the shared memory.
So it's posible when he applyed the mod the default bios values were loaded, does changing the memory size displayed.

That's definitely odd. Can you please flash ORIGINAL A02 and check what the Video memory looks like? If it is OK, them something is going on with the mod that I can look at. But I need for you to tell me if this issue exists in the original bios or not.

Thanks

thanks reply p4spooky:)

Have you checked to see if there are bios settigns that allow you to change the amount of the shared memory ?
Couse I have the same video card and in the bios settings I can change the size of the memory being shared.

Edit. Here is some more info about DVMT on intel's support site:

Also install the Asus cert & make sure you used a slp product key.

If you did those things then we'll need to you to check Everest under Motherboard-ACPI for SLIC, and copy SLIC data to a file to check.

What Everest shows is correct, so the problem is Asus cert isn't installed, an slp product key isn't being used, or a leftover crack/bootloader is present. Asus cert (http://www.box.net/shared/rx9t2h9lz6) (asus.xrm-ms) is included with the download. SLP product keys are here (http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showthread.php?t=2581). VOATK Tools (http://rapidshare.com/files/50368049/voatktoolsv.2.5_stand_alone.zip.html) can help remove some cracks/bootloaders.

We can double-check the SLIC in RAM if you do this:

Run HWDirect

Double click Memory Dump

Enter:
Physical Address: BFF90440
Size: 176

Click Dump

Right click in box and click Select All

Right click again and click Copy

Run Winhex

Click Edit -> Clipboard Data -> Paste Into New File

Click Ascii Hex

Click File -> Save

Type a name like "slic.bin"

Upload the file and post the link

If the SLIC matches Asus SLIC then it isn't the bios, but something about your Windows installation. If there is a problem with the SLIC in RAM we can try a different kind of mod.

The SLIC looks OK. The rsa key & marker which are the important part are identical to the original slic. The only differences in the whole table is the 4-byte oem revision in the header and the checksum byte (because of the other difference). I don't think that would cause you to not activate. If you've done the other things then I think you may need to reinstall Windows.

foxysteven
06-18-2009, 11:06 AM
So does that mean that ma BIOS is unlockable???

zort
06-18-2009, 11:10 AM
Yep, it means the modded bios has Asus slic and can be used for oem activation. Also the original bios likely had Sony slic already and could also be used. I would stick with the Asus one now that you have it though.

foxysteven
06-18-2009, 11:13 AM
So activation aside, is there any way I can unlock the capabilities of the BIOS as half the content is locked out and no access to advanced chipset features and so on, which would need access to for memory upgrades installing components, do you have any idea about this????

zort

I don't think anyone here can unlock other features, but you could try Rebels Haven (http://www.rebelshavenforum.com/sis-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=52;t=000134).
