Interestingly the orrigional BIOS has a "half slic" for NEC.

Let us know if it works!
Mod notes: Replaced FC module with new one with Asus SLIC code, and also replaced fake SLIC in 1B with Asus SLIC. Didn't see old or new generation lock in 1B. If this doesn't activate then there may be a new kind of lock.

Yeah no probs, I'm not with the box right now but I'll try and do this today.
Using the same Vista DVD (that I created) used for another Asus slic'd mobo.
Asus Cert and PID. I'll do the same reports from that board to see what the difference is.

Tried the unmodded f2h bios downloaded direct from gigabyte and I still got video corruption problems, so it seems you're mod is good, but the bios sucks. I havent tried disabling onboard video memory, but I shouldn't have to. PC is working perfeftly with F1 but is not activated
Flashed with the modded F1 bios, everything is working great, windows in activated. Pushed my luck Flashed back to F2H, reset bios, cleared DMI pool, still video corrupting, display driver stops responding, blue screen of death-crash dump DIE !!
Using modded F1 bios now, windows is activated, everything seems fine. Will stick to F1 for now and trawl the net for a solution. Appreaciate the effort (Dam I hate building the media center PC's for family)
Thanks again guys, Fantastic effort :)

i just used the gigabyte ep45 ud3r f9 slic zort posted. i use the vista bootloader cleaner thing? and cleaned out all the boot loader, and it showed me 30 days left which means it worked. i then flashed my bios (F9 Slic ) and now it shows it is activated. and it seems like it fixed the sleep deactivation(putting the computer to sleep would make vista deactivates) was it a success? does it mean my vista won't deactivate anymore? thanks
EDIT: is that how slic works? it activates your vista permanently instead of using vista activators ? sorry im a noob at this
Sounds like you did everything right crazyboy515. This should stay activated permanently as long as you use this bios (or to another one that also has SLIC added).

That's right-- no cracks or bootloaders. All that's needed is a bios with a SLIC table, matching certificate (.xrm-ms), and slp product key. It's possible that an earlier crack already installed the certificate & product key for you.
Hello,
i need a mod to this board;
ASRock Motherboard 775i945GZ please!
Bios is,2.00
You need to provide a link to the original bios.
Use this format for requests:

so your saying it MIGHT not activate vista? like if i used a OEM one. if that happens, do i just get a boot loader? (just curious, might help in the future) also is it safe to download all windows update?

The original bioses from Gigabyte won't have a slic. If you flash one of them Windows will become deactivated. To stay activated you should only update to bioses that have been modded to contain a slic. So far all Windows updates have been safe to install with modded bioses and that's unlikely to change.

ftp://ftp-usa.abit.com.tw/pub/download/bios/kn8//kn819.zip
I tried to mod it some months ago, but after flashing the modded BIOS it says "CMOS checksum error - defaults loaded" on every boot and stops there. I tried clearing the CMOS with the jumper but it didn't work.
After flashing an original unmodded BIOS this message shows up only on the first boot.
I think I used the ISA-method. Are the "Updated ISA modules for Award bios" from this thread better?: http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showthread.php?t=378
Or is there another way to get this working?
Thanks

Interestingly the orrigional BIOS has a "half slic" for NEC.
Here's a dynamic mod you can try:
http://slics.myftp.org/Asus_M4A78-VM_ver_0601_ASUS_SLIC.rar
Because FC module needs to be updated you need to use this command to flash the bios, from a bootable USB flash drive:
afudos /iM4A78-VM.ROM /pbnc /n
Let us know if it works!
Mod notes: Replaced FC module with new one with Asus SLIC code, and also replaced fake SLIC in 1B with Asus SLIC. Didn't see old or new generation lock in 1B. If this doesn't activate then there may be a new kind of lock.
Now tested and found to be 100% working!
The previous modded bios had both the half slic from NEC and the ASUS table in there too, not sure what part of yours did the trick but it is working as it should!
Many thanks!

We probably can't help with that. If you see a feature called "Advanced Clock Calibration" in the bios try setting it to auto. If you need a overclocking/feature enabling mod your best bet is Rebels Haven (http://www.rebelshavenforum.com/sis-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum;f=52).

Uninstall Vistaloader. Use VOATK Tools (http://rapidshare.com/files/50368049/voatktoolsv.2.5_stand_alone.zip.html) to help remove any cracks. Then try installing WoW (http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showthread.php?t=3366) and install HP cert (.xrm-ms).
only for hp ? i use acer and i have acer cert, can i use acer cert(acer.xrm-ms) instead hp cert?
Thankss.

WoW installs HP slic by default. The easy thing to do would be to use it that way and install the HP cert, but there might be a way to change it. Read the WoW (http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showthread.php?t=3366) thread and if you don't see the answer post your question there where others will see it.

Can anybody help me to mod this BIOS?
Motherboard Manufacturer and Model : Abit KN8 SLI
Bios Revision : 19
Bios Type : PHOENIX - AWARD v6.00PG
Bios SLIC: ASUS
Bios Link: http://file.abit.com.tw/pub/download/bios/kn8//kn819.zip
I tried to mod it some months ago, but after flashing the modded BIOS it says "CMOS checksum error - defaults loaded" on every boot and stops there. I tried clearing the CMOS with the jumper but it didn't work.
After flashing an original unmodded BIOS this message shows up only on the first boot.
I think I used the ISA-method. Are the "Updated ISA modules for Award bios" from this thread better?: http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showthread.php?t=378
Or is there another way to get this working?
Thanks

Is this BIOS made using the "Easy Auto Method" for AWARD with the updated ISA modules by tommiy + Zhaoliang from this thread http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showthread.php?t=378 ?
Is this the best method or are there any alternatives by now, because I tried it with the old ISA modules some time ago but it didn't work (Checksum error).

Hi,
I have this board as well, and it seems that F2B beta bios had the code to unlock the forth core of the Phenom 7xx, but with the latest bios it does not work anymore (F4) - seems that Gigabyte has remove it. If you want to unlock the forth core - better stay with F2B bios version. You can verify this by reverting to the F2B version and set ACC option in the bios to "Auto"
Good luck,

muyu ISA is older and doesn't work as well as the Tommy and Zhaoliang ISA modules. (The autopatcher comes with muyu ISA.)
The KN8 SLI mod in All Slics doesn't use isa. It's an oem mod (ssv1 with nocompress module). I would've done it a little differently but I think it will work.

Not to be a stinker, but that is how it was done back in the day..before the cut and paste OEM7..:D
This is the original SSv1 type with just moving the ACPITBL to the end. If there are less than 3 sensitive modules (which there are) they are generally golden. This is generally the way ABIT has to be done, the OEM7 pasted over the ACPITBL and the ACPITBL moved to the end (C&P OEM7) doesnt work as well on these..JFYI:p
I think the best mod for these is the black epa OEM7 Mod with the order of ACPITBL, OEM7, EPAlogo..For future reference..I had a couple of ABIT boards out that ran very well like this. And they were heavily tested..

How would you have done it? Sorry for so many questions. :)
I'm a little afraid to brick my board.
There are lots of ways it can be modded and any method will probably work with this bios, so it's more of a matter of preference. I like 0+2 and SSV3 the best. The OEM7 method w/black epa that 911medic mentioned is a good way too. The way this one was done the modules under acpi get shifted up, but since it doesn't contain sensitive modules it's not a problem. Newer bioses would require one of the newer methods.
As for isa vs oem, with some newer bioses oem is more compatible than isa, but isa still works fine for lots of bioses. There have been some cases where isa worked and oem wouldn't, but more cases the other way around. It's usually safe to try isa first and if you notice any issues switch an oem mod. In your case since there's already an oem mod made you might as well try it first.

Probably a dumb question zort but what are the issues to look for or notice?

I'm glad it worked Namebrand. :) Was that button to clear cmos? Sometimes that's needed to boot correctly when going to a newer version bios.
Probably a dumb question zort but what are the issues to look for or notice?
Do cbrom /d to view the list of modules. If any contain 'INIT' or 'PE32' don't move those because they may have entry points at specific offsets that shouldn't change. There are lots of ways to do mods without shifting the offsets. There are more ways available if there is an epa module than if there isn't one. Another thing to look for is if there's a SLIC already in the acpi table. Your bios has pretty limited options since there is no epa and there is a slic in acpitable. You can't replace the fake slic with a real one in the acpi without shifting all the modules as a result which could cause a problem. So it's good that ISA worked. :)

Yeah it was the button to clear cmos. On this board they put a clear cmos button on the back just below a couple usb slots. So you dont have to open the case every time to clear cmos. A great feature I've used it often lol. I'm glad it worked this time so no waiting for RMA lol.

Actually there is a way you could do this which 911medic mentioned which is to move the acpi table to the end. I forgot about that!

:D - Glad it worked. MOST bios flashes require a full cmos clear. One more thing if you could check: Put the computer to sleep and wake up. Check if activation is still valid. If so, we are good. Report back please :D
Put to sleep worked fine. for a second it said product id not available but then it showed up as activated. I guess that normal. Thanks again.

Can someone mod this Motherboard for oem ASUS Vista?
the suggested modding see second link failed to activate vista
I'm not trying to be pushy but a bit lost about the procedure to give feedback.
Considering a Slic patch for ASUS Key on following firmware (same as before)
http://europe.giga-byte.com/FileList/BIOS/motherboard_bios_ga-945gm-s2_f6.exe
the suggested modification does not seem to do the job activation is not done
Vista complains not genuine. The machine /bios itself seems to be unharmed
I tried the modding tools on the following SLIC but as it is the first time I can not find anything
and I get lost very quickly.
As I extract ACPITBL.bin the length seems to be not devidable by 4 but of coarse its the first time I loock at things
On the other hand I can not find the SLIC.. was just looking
http://slics.myftp.org/Gigabyte-GA945GM-S2-ASUS-SLIC.rar
I've seen different requests for the motherboard in the past but there
seems not to be a mod F6 at this time ?
Thankns in advance
Thanks in advance

The SLIC is inside the system module at offset 1DD80.
Did you install the Asus cert?

If you've used any cracks or bootloaders make sure they are removed with VOATK Tools (http://rapidshare.com/files/50368049/voatktoolsv.2.5_stand_alone.zip.html).
If it still doesn't work please upload memory dump made one of these ways:

Just to clarify understanding:
Normal OEM7 = Modded ACPITBL and OEM7 containing SLIC in place of original ACPITBL and EPA, with EPA moved to end.
Abit OEM7 = OEM7 containing SLIC in place of original ACPITBL with modded ACPITBL at end.
Black EPA OEM7 = Modded ACPITBL, OEM7 containing SLIC and Black EPA in place of original ACPITBL and EPA.
What exactly constitues an SSV1 mod?
What do you consider 'sensitive' modules and why particularly less than 3. I assume UTS64K.BIN would be one...
Cheers :D
Andy
The SSV1 method at Award:
Acpitable was extracted AND released. SLIC was inserted as NoCompress rom. Acpitable was modified and added as last module.
This was all done using Cbrom.
All the other methods were developed, because available cbrom versions are not able to handle recently introduced modules. We called them sensitive modules, the offsets of them should be remained. The first were ‘init’ modules (GV3, minit). Later the PE32 modules, Abit was first, Gigabyte followed. They are specially formatted and dependant to others. You cannot just move them.
UTS64K.BIN is not a sensitive module, but a sort of romhole.
The weakness of the Award modular structure is when you release a module, the offsets of the modules behind are changed as well.
Sensitive module= module that cbrom cannot handle correctly…..better remain its original offset at bios.
It depends on what version of cbrom you are relate it.
So the original SSv1 method wasn’t working anymore because if you’ve released the acpitable using cbrom the bios was unusable. The offsets of the modules behind are changed, the modules cbrom doesn’t know about got corrupt as result.
The last version of cbrom is CBROM32_195.exe. If that version allows to extract / release acpitable module again, handling the ‘sensitive’ modules correctly, we can do SSV1 again…….
Your explanation of the OEM7 derivates is correct.
A genreal rule at modifiying bios: Keep the modular structure of a bios as original as possible.

Note: This bios has a dummy slic in ACPITBL making it impossible to do a 0+2 mod (Changing SLIC to SLEC bricked the board on the previous release).
SSV3 is also not possible since there is no EPA module to compress.
Let's try ISA, it is relatively safe and should work.

The first were init modules (GV3, minit). Later the PE32 modules, Abit was first, Gigabyte followed. They are specially formatted and dependent to others. You cannot just move them.
I think there's more than one issue. One being cbrom recognizing the kinds of modules. (Some new ones are formatted differently for example ending in FF instead of 00 or difference in module header and cbrom might not handle them right, making changes to them.) If the only issue was cbrom handling all the modules right then you could move them all yourself as one block right? But I thought some also had fixed entry points, and if they were moved, even if the module stays identical, the bios might not work because of the offset change. Is that incorrect and the only issue being if cbrom recognizes and formats the module properly?
An example of a module to not move:

It's AMI bios, so you have to use different tools. Andy's ami slic tool (http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showthread.php?t=4071) will probably work fine.
zonk, I'm curious if Everest shows a SLIC (with size 374 bytes) under Motherboard-ACPI with unmodded bios. If so the empty slic in 1B module can probably be overwritten with a real one.

Flashing from windows will BRICK your board. Shanester flashed and reported working. May be he can help with the Award flash DOS utility he used?
You can try http://www.lejabeach.com/Award/Awd894.zip
Here are the instructions to flash: http://www.rebelshavenforum.com/sis-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=33;t=000318

I flashed old version ((links below)) in windows three weeks ago without problems, same os, same hardware.

SLP1.0+SLP2.0 : Dell mod p4spooky, tested 150miles
http://www.box.net/shared/s1190gvugh
Note: Looks like Zotac provides no way to flash from DOS. Please follow the following steps for reducing risk of a dead board:
0. Familiarize yourself with bios recovery options
1. Reboot, load setup defaults
2. Flash ORIGINAL bios (select flash boot block if there is a option in the tool)
3. Clear CMOS, load defaults
4. boot into windows and flash mod bios - don't flash the boot block
5. Reboot, load defaults
Anyway, soon i will post my results with flashing from dos using Awd894.

Thanks for your swift reply! However, the links does not seem to work and I have difficulty downloading the mod.
I am running a Mod F12 Bios which is an Award Bios. I believe the F14D Bios is also an Award Bios, but palfern's request indicated it as AMI. Would it make any different? I am willing to try if there is a workable link.
Going back to the previous threads, I notice there is a Award F13beta Bios mod for Dell, but again, the link dos not seem to work! I would like to try this one too, if there is a workable link.

Method: ISA

Note: This bios has a dummy slic in ACPITBL making it impossible to do a 0+2 mod (Changing SLIC to SLEC bricked the board on the previous release).
SSV3 is also not possible since there is no EPA module to compress.
Let's try ISA, it is relatively safe and should work.

This is slightly tricker as it is an old AMI BIOS (core 7). Try the following. As always, flashing is risky. No bootloaders. Flash original first and ensure all OK. Then flash SLIC'd BIOS from DOS, restart, reset cmos etc.

Thanks soooo much!! That works perfectly, everything shows as DELL and I am activated.
Very much appreciate the hard work, you cracked it in the end and I'm over the moon :) :) :)
I have the same Board as Magsy (ASUS OEM -> IMISR-VM).
I already tried the last "patched" BIOS:
http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/8/13/2048424/original-windows.ROM_DELL.rar
I flashed with AFU236U ES Edition.
With AFU236U.EXE /iBIOS.ROM and also with /pbnc /n flags.
But it doesn't work for me.
I always get "RM plc" @ SLIC, RSDT and XSDT Table.

Its ok, I answered my own question here. Yes this bios dose support both XP and Vista and works like a charm. Thanks.
I don't think it has SLP added for XP, just SLIC for Vista.

Do you have a link to download the bios?
I would say you should use the award slic tool in the sticky. AndyP tool.
The bios I have found has an empty slic in the acpitbl module. The tool will still modify the bios for HP.
I would like to see YOUR bios though, if you don't mind..:D

I have the same Board as Magsy (ASUS OEM -> IMISR-VM).
I already tried the last "patched" BIOS:
http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/8/13/2048424/original-windows.ROM_DELL.rar
I flashed with AFU236U ES Edition.
With AFU236U.EXE /iBIOS.ROM and also with /pbnc /n flags.
But it doesn't work for me.
I always get "RM plc" @ SLIC, RSDT and XSDT Table.
Please try this: http://slics.myftp.org/Asus-IMISR-VM-GM965-ASUS-SLIC.rar

Flash at your own risk
I used this and the flash went fine, but it has the Dell SLIC. I had requested ASUS. It doesn't make a huge difference, but I use the same disk for a few different computers that all have ASUS. I'd like it if I could still do this. So, could you please modify this to use ASUS?
Thanks.
