Hi I could not get my floppy to work so i flashed the bios in windows and of curse it killed my motherboard, now I'm waiting for a new bios chip so now i don't know if I should try again, I don't think xfx is going to send me another chip for free. So my question is if it was the windows flash that broke the board and by doing it on dos is the only way to really know that it works. I dont doubt you guys skills i have flashed 3 different boards with your bios mods and all of them work fine.

NEVER flash any mod bios from Windows, sure way to kill your board. I will check the BIOS again, have Zort take a look at it also and update this thread.

Note: There is ALWAYS a risk to flashing, you have to decide what you are comfortable doing with the mod bios flash. :D

Well, I don't think this one is working. I was using the F11 bios that I found on here with an ASUS slic and Vista activated fine. I updated to this bios, which is also using the Asus SLIC and it won't activate. I tried re-adding the asus.xrm-ms with the ASUS vista ultimate SLP key with no luck and tried both steps listed here (http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showpost.php?p=59306&postcount=7). The same .xrm-ms and SLP key are integrated into my install disc which installed and worked fine with the F11 bios. Any ideas?

I see what the problem is. SLIC is partly below 1DF00 in system module. We now know that area often gets changed in RAM making a SLIC there no longer valid. I'll redo it with SLIC in a different location.

Zort,

Thanks for this. Works perfectly. Originally had an issue with the BIOS not being able to detect my quad core CPU at the right FSB speeds, but a quick reset to "optimized settings" in the BIOS followed by a restart sorted it out.

:D :D :D

Thanks for the feedback, JKaye. Loading defaults is always a good idea after updating to a new bios :)

Hi, thanks! Please tell me first your backup plan to recover the bios if it doesn't work.

What you would do in that case is up to you. (I didn't mean that I had a plan, but that you should have a plan.) First of all it's a good idea to backup anything important to a flash drive or external hard drive so you would have access to the data if the computer was temporarily unusable.

Recovery options include try to flash the original bios with a bootable floppy disk, try to force the bootblock to initiate a flash, hotswap the bios chip with a compatible motherboard and flash it, order a preprogrammed bios chip, rma the motherboard.

I checked previous version of your bios and it has the identical module at the end with no extra code after it, so I don't think the extra code is for anything. If you'd rather use the previous version we can mod it instead.

robi, maybe you can save your current bios with afudos, and then upload it.

ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/PUB/ASUS/mb/flash/Afudos238.zip

ex: afudos /obios.bin

Also if you run the Sony program to update the bios (even if you're already using that version) it may extract it to a temp directory which you could copy it from.

Got it. Here is the actual BIOS file

There should be no substantial differences. The one I posted has Dell,Asus,HP for SLP1 names. P4spooky's has Asus,Lenovo SLP1 names. Both have Asus SLIC. The one I posted is tested working by nalx1, and tony10103 didn't provide feedback for p4spooky's. You might start with mine since it's already tested, but p4spooky's is probably fine too.

Thanks a lot Zort, i followed your advice and flashed with yours, works perfectly. Flashed with @bios, load defaults settings, set ahci for sata ... you are a star :) Thanks to P4spooky too for the great job you are doing guys.

Thanks for uploading that robi. It turns out andyp knew of a program "uniextract" that can extract the files from the Sony .exe. There are something odd things about the bios though-- there are 4 extra FF bytes after the 1B module that don't seem to belong. They aren't included in the size in the module header. Also according to Andyp's tool the bios checksum is incorrect. I'm thinking the best way to do it is SSV2 but making the compressed 1B module 4 bytes bigger than original to replace the extra FF's. Maybe 911medic can give us his opinion if he sees this.

M3N78-EM ver 0511 was tested working by 2 people. There wasn't feedback given for ver 0520 so it is possible that one doesn't work.

Looking at 0520 I see it was modded SSV2 and there is a Dell SLIC at 60000, but there is also a fake SLIC in the 1B module which was there originally. Maybe the fake SLIC is being seen instead of the Dell SLIC.

We can do a new mod. Don't flash from Windows though-- copy the bios to a usb flash drive and use afudos or the flash utility in bios setup.

romeczek, yours is proprietary so can't be modded. (We can only do Award,AMI,Phoenix. No tools for others.) You'll need to use a bootloader like WoW (http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showthread.php?t=3366).

You can use Everest to see if SLIC is already present. (There is always a chance!) But if it wasn't there or if it wasn't a valid SLIC then a bootloader would be the only option.

I am quite new to this, so please bear with me. My Asus P6T Deluxe v2 will be arriving in a few days for my new (and first ever) build. Quick reply. Thanks. Can you point me in the direction of two guides even though I'm sure these two things are simple, I've only be in a computer's bios once lol. How do I upgrade to 0302 when I first build the computer if its not there already? Then, how do I load this modded bios? Finally, are there any other things I would need to do before I could install vista x64? Thank you so much.

The easiest way to update is to copy the modded bios to a USB flash drive. When the computer is starting up press DEL to enter setup and use the flash utility in there. It should be pretty straightforward. The other way is to make a bootable USB flash drive and run afudos.exe at DOS prompt to flash.

After updating to modded BIOS, install Vista like usual. I prefer to not put in a key while installing.

When vista installation is complete install digital certificate (.xrm-ms file) from command prompt. (Turn off user account control or run as Administrator.) Ex:
slmgr.vbs -ilc C:\asus.xrm-ms

After cert is installed enter appropriate SLP product key for your version of Vista. (You can do that in system control panel or command prompt.) Ex:
slmgr.vbs -ipk <new product key>

You're done!

Thanks zort. So thats for installing the modded bios, what about just upgrading the version number beforehand. I think the os for the asus boards has internet access or do I just use a usb drive like the modded bios with the upgrade?

zort
04-26-2009, 01:58 AM
If it doesn't come with 0302 already you can update it to original 0302 bios using the same method. After updating the bios: restart, press DEL to enter setup again, Load setup defaults, Save and exit. Then repeat process the with the modded bios.

I think it just does ISA mods and you don't need an extra program to do that. It has the muyu ISA bundled with it which is the oldest one (and which has a higher failure rate). If you're going to do an ISA mod it's better to just run the cbrom command with one of the updated ISA's.

4a. Then, (general method for Award bios)
Cbrom yourbios.bin /ISA Iasus.bin
(Iasus.bin is the name of the ISA module you want to add)

4b. Then, (mainly for Asus boards)
cbrom yourbios.bin /Slpkey bbpubkey.bin
cbrom yourbios.bin /Slpmarker bbmarker.bin

If the ISA method is not working you can try to insert as ISA2 or as ISA3 module like this:

CBROM BIOS.BIN /OTHER 40A4:0 ISA.BIN (---->ISA1)
CBROM BIOS.BIN /OTHER 40A5:0 ISA.BIN (---->ISA2)
CBROM BIOS.BIN /OTHER 40A6:0 ISA.BIN (---->ISA3)

Do only 4a or 4b. ISA method works generally. But you can try both methods for ALL Award bioses. (Credits: Yen)

5. Done, ready to flash

Not at all. It was a simple overflow (a silly vb thing where uint = byte * byte must be written as uint = byte * cuint(byte) - otherwise problems.... which is daft!). The tool handled the 4 extra bytes fine! :p

So I am reaching out to you to help me find a way to :

1-. Extract the original bios from my board or help find a source for it.
2-. Once we have the bios I will possibly need some help modifying it (I have modified a bios before) so it shouldnt be too bad.

Thanks in advance..

PS> I have already tried to backup (extract) the bios on the board using some awdflash utilities and even the award windows utility without success. awdflsh for dos will not back it up if you dont have a matching bios already even if you specify a no flash switch. And the windows utility will actually tell me that there is no award bios detected and closes.

Hi guys, could you mod this bios for my motherboard, as I could not find the Advanced Clock Calibration (ACC) Option.

It isn't listed in your motherboard manual, so I don't think the bios option is available. Also see second and third post here (http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?p=3111348).

You could install the latest AMD Overdrive:
http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_overdrive.aspx

We can still do SLIC mod if you're interested.

Are you doing it from DOS mode (i.e. bootable usb flash drive)? It won't work in Windows. You can get the newest afudos from Asus here (ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw./pub/ASUS/mb/flash/Afudos238.zip).

I was doing it from DOS, it must have been something wrong with my version of afudos (2.25), with yours it worked fine. Everest shows SLIC so should be good. I report back, once i installed vista.

Hi could someone please mod this BIOS with ASUS slic for Vista?

Request:
- Motherboard: Abit IC7-G
- Bios revision: ic728
- Bios Type: AWARD
- Bios link: http://file.abit.com.tw/pub/download/bios/ic7-g/ic728.exe

BTW A while back I downloaded a modded BIOS for another Abit board, the Abit IC7-MAX3 from this forum. This BIOS is not available here anymore, probably because the link went dead. I have uploaded it again in case someone needs it. The Abit IC7-G and Abit IC7-MAX3 boards are very similar. My own Abit IC7-MAX3 board broke recently and have been replaced by a second hand IC7-G which is why I now need a modded BIOS for IC7-G.

Thanks for your swift reply! However, the links does not seem to work and I have difficulty downloading the mod.

I am running a Mod F12 Bios which is an Award Bios. I believe the F14D Bios is also an Award Bios, but palfern's request indicated it as AMI. Would it make any different? I am willing to try if there is a workable link.

Going back to the previous threads, I notice there is a Award F13beta Bios mod for Dell, but again, the link dos not seem to work! I would like to try this one too, if there is a workable link.

The server is down and should be up in a day or two. Lot of our mods are on this server. I don't have local copies of most of these mods. I will try to upload the ones I still have to a different location. Please try in couple of days, if the server is still down post a new request.

In fact, non of the 'http://slics.myftp.org/' link works from many of the previous posts.

Can no one help me :(

Like I posted to GraceSlics reply, the mod in the All SLICS thread for IC7-G is SLP 1.0, and as far as I know this is for XP, I need to activate Vista.

Believe me I did try that mod with a dell cert before I made my request and it doesn't work.

If I had the brains to mod it myself I would, and share it with you.

My request still stands.

Request:
- Motherboard: Abit IC7-G
- Bios revision: ic728
- Bios Type: AWARD
- Bios link: http://file.abit.com.tw/pub/download/bios/ic7-g/ic728.exe

I recently upgraded my aspire 3623 from a M370 to a M740. The bios needs to be upgraded to operate speedstep of the new cpu. Currently it runs at 1.3 instead of the 1.7 it's supposed to. At bootup it says 1.733 gh but in EVEREST it says it's running 1.296gh.
CPUz gives the same info. running @ 1.296, identified as 1.733. The bus speed is 99.8 instead of the 133 it should be. I have the proper ram so I need to manually boost the bus speed somehow.I can't find on the ACER site where to get the BIOS upgrade download. I'm using v1.06.
Can you mod this BIOS to operate at the higher buss speed? I don't understand all from EVEREST but it's running at "CO". Apparently it's capable of "C0 & C1". My guress is that the C! mode is the higher speed.

Can no one help me :(

Like I posted to GraceSlics reply, the mod in the All SLICS thread for IC7-G is SLP 1.0, and as far as I know this is for XP, I need to activate Vista.

Believe me I did try that mod with a dell cert before I made my request and it doesn't work.

If I had the brains to mod it myself I would, and share it with you.

My request still stands.

Request:
- Motherboard: Abit IC7-G
- Bios revision: ic728
- Bios Type: AWARD
- Bios link: http://file.abit.com.tw/pub/download/bios/ic7-g/ic728.exe

I would be forever grateful if someone mod this BIOS so I can activate Vista :)

The trouble is there is no space in this bios to do a ISA or 0+2 mod. I think ;) there may be an option but I will have to check with Zort. I will update this with what I find.

Meanwhile you should be able to use one of the softmods like WOW! This is a old board - I am not sure how well the machine will run vista anyway.

This IC7-G board is replacing a IC7-MAX3, and there is a modded BIOS for IC7-MAX3 that works, I downloaded it from this forum a while back.

The IC7-G and IC7-MAX3 are very similar in both layout and components. Same chipset, CPU socket etc.. Only IC7-G have serial and parallel port, IC7-MAX3 doesn't.
IC7-G have Sil3112 sata chip onboard, IC7-MAX3 have Sil3114 sata onboard. IC7-MAX3 have a so called OTES fan, IC7-G doesn't.

The BIOS chips on these boards are the same type and model. The BIOS setup looks very much the same but of course there are some differences.

Just for the hell of it I tried to take the BIOS chip from the IC7-MAX3 and place it in the IC7-G, and the BIOS posted and I could enter the setup. But I didn't dare to try and boot up windows.

I'm wondering if it would be possible to take the added SLIC and what else is changed in the working modded BIOS for IC7-MAX3 and port it to the IC7-G BIOS. I have absolutely no idea about the techniques of BIOS modding.

I'm crossing my fingers that someone can crack this nut. I bet that the one that modded the BIOS for IC7-MAX3 can mod the one for IC7-G.

Thank you so much for trying to help p4spooky, it means a lot.

Maybe I'll have to settle for a softmod, but a modded BIOS really is the best solution. Let's see what happens.

Thanks again p4spooky :)

You have done it again.
Windows Activated, for some reason couldnt flash from floppy though, kept saying data error, tried 4 different floppies.
Since flashing via @bios (lol) getting some pixelation while watching TV in media center and crashed once so far, didnt do this before the flash so I am a bit concerned. With dream scene running I can see some grapical glitches also. Any possibility this bios has effected the onboard graphics ?

Quick addition, just wanted to add that there is alot of video corruption now. even just sitting on the desktop, something is wrong :(

Flashed Back to F1 unmodded, and everything is OK, except windows not activated :(

Kind Regards

Zort can probably remove some of the CPU microcode from the bios to make room for the SLIC.BIN and an ISA mod. I do not have time for the specific analysis, but a quick peek seems to be promising.. I will try to see it again tomorrow, but I can make no promises.

I think this is not impossible, It may take some figuring though...

Flash from DOS with AFUDOS for best results. EZFlash may work. Clear cmos and load defaults after flash..

I have included a Dynamic mod as well as the SSv3 mod.. The Dynamic is as factory as you will get, although the method is still in its infancy (read:experimental) but has worked 100% in my experience when I used it..

The SSv3 is the same as the last you used, I would imagine. I am curious if teh ACPI prob is the mod???

At any rate, let us know which you use and the results..Thanks..

Have you tried the bios to flash.?

You cannot just remove the logos. If they are referenced in the bios code, and they are not there...well we have just caused a BRICK..

The answer is to shrink them by making them black. The 00 or FF compresses better and effectively shrinks the bios. Offsets have to be kept in the newer bios, these are not that picky, but you cannot arbitrarily remove the modules without changing the reference pointers in the bios code..Very poor practice..

Spooky wasnt saying to remove them, as he certainly knows enough about these bios structure to know that would most likely brick the MOBO..Thanks for the effort though..:D

Can you test original, unmodded F2H to see if there is corruption in case it is a difference with this bios version not the mod? Also remember clearing cmos and loading defaults is sometimes necessary going from one version to another.

Download this and read the directions enclosed..http://rapidshare.com/files/222141994/40-CERTS.zip.html

Serials here..http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showthread.php?t=2581

You need to use the serial necessary or put PID.TXT in the sources folder of the DVD containing the serial for the version you want..in this case Ultimate

Then you install the cert, unless you put an $OEM$ folder in th e Sources folder of the DVD.
In the latter case see here...http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showpost.php?p=60795&postcount=13
The last two are a bit advanced, but worth learning if you may be installing, reinstalling Vista on one or more machines..Read and Read some more..none of us acquired this knowledge out of the blue..

There is a wealth of info here, so much that finding what you want is 90% of the battle O_o

You can experiment on your present install by removing all the crud with VOATKtools..google it as it is not hard to find, and a must if you are going to screw around with activators and such..With your present bios, activators are a thing of the past!!!

flashed successful but everest shows no slic
and oem bios shows it having
ASUS crc=B20C65BF
AND Elitegroup CRC=8EE1223C

both showing a F: in front of them . does it have two different
SLP strings in the bios

i have not tryed activating either yet with oem disc's waiting to hear back about the SLIC info

cheers thanks for the quick bios mod

PBG
Very Important: You need to clear the cmos and load defaults before we can be sure it needs further attention. The ASUS_FLASH string is present in the bios. The ISA should be fine for this bios.

i updated my bios using qflash following to this official gigabyte tut.(LINK (http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/FileList/NewTech/old_motherboard_newtech/flashbios_qflash.pdf)) downloaded F9 from there. i just want a modded f9 bios that could activate my vista prenamently . (when i put my window to sleep it deactivates, until i restart it says activated) i have a pirated vista that included activation. i just want vista activated thanks. btw if i modded my bios, what difference will i see? like litrally see with my eyes. would the bios be different?

It's already made:

EP45-UD3R (rev. 1.0) - ver. F9: Award
slp/SLIC: Asus mod p4spooky, tested ring
http://slics.myftp.org/Gigabyte-EP45-UD3R-F9-ASUS-SLIC.zip

You won't see a difference. With the modded bios a SLIC table is loaded into memory during the boot process in the background.

If you have a bootloader or other crack you will have to uninstall it for the bios mod to work properly. You can try VOATK Tools (http://rapidshare.com/files/50368049/voatktoolsv.2.5_stand_alone.zip.html) for removing cracks.

Can you test original, unmodded F2H to see if there is corruption in case it is a difference with this bios version not the mod? Also remember clearing cmos and loading defaults is sometimes necessary going from one version to another.

Tried the unmodded f2h bios downloaded direct from gigabyte and I still got video corruption problems, so it seems you're mod is good, but the bios sucks. I havent tried disabling onboard video memory, but I shouldn't have to. PC is working perfeftly with F1 but is not activated :(

Hmm..make sure you are not overclocking onboard video.

Remember GA-MA78GPM-UD2H had an issue with sideport? If you don't need that feature you could disable it.

See p4spooky's updated post for F1 mod :)
