ZORT, I am trying to get this bios to activate, but I cant. Atiman replied saying that it works, but it dosent seem to work for me.
I have done a memory dump, could you please take a look and see if there is a problem ?

it would be much appreaciated.

Chris

This last bit is a LONG shot but, this board uses the same sound chip as my MA78GM-S2H which has DTS connect. I assume they disbaled on this newer board to save a royalty. Is there any way of enabling it ? (Its a long shot :D ) I use these boards for home media centers, I am building this latest one for my brother.

Hi SilentButcher,

Thanks for providing the memory dump. In this mod I put the SLIC at 1DE00 in the system, and the SLIC is getting partially overwritten in RAM beginning at 1DF00. This happens on some computers, but not on others. I'll redo this mod putting the entire SLIC above 1DF00 and then it should work OK for you.

Enabling the DTS connect feature (if possible) isn't something I could do. Probably the best place to ask about that is Rebels Haven (http://www.rebelshavenforum.com/sis-bin/ultimatebb.cgi).

Flash from DOS with Included tool. Clear cmos and load defaults after flash.

0+2, seeing as how the isa is no good for this board..:D:D

This has worked perfectly - thanks again!

I don't think the ISA mod is a good idea on this board.....i had to clear CMOS for a whole day before it would behave itself again on the regular DFI bios.

For anyone with this board that's interested (and has an AM3 CPU) this is the best bios for this board so far. VRM regulation is rock solid and easily overclocks further than any of the previous ones. I'm a happy bunny!!!

MSI boards need a SSV2 mod as the bios module size (1B) needs to be preserved among other things. The mod that I posted is a SSV2 mod (the correct type for MSI boards).

1. Please flash original bios from DOS first, clear CMOS, reboot and load defaults.
2. Then flash the mod bios without any switches (Mod BIOS that I posted HERE (http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showpost.php?p=55585&postcount=18247))

BIOS modding comes with risk and we try to ensure that risk of dead boards is minimal. However, please understand that you take a risk when you flash and is not guaranteed. ;)

The only tool that is safe is Andy's tool on AMI bioses. You can read abou the tool HERE (http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showthread.php?t=4071)

911Medic, hi, AWARD BIOS is a manual job? No tools like ANDYP for AMI ? Am I in the right track ?

Yep..All manual. You need cbrom, hex editor, isa files, and some slic.bin codes...depending on the type of mod. Some simple arithmetic skills, and a push in the right direction...:D:D (I have a blank epa.bmp and some other sorted files used often, if you need one..lol)

Read the specific notes on the mod your own bios main page, and ask questions to clarify what you dont understand. Zort or myself will point you in the right direction, P4Spooky has been successful as well..

Enjoy, maybe when Yen gets back, we will all learn a few more tricks...:D:D

Zort, I seemed to have problems with this bios. Vista activated fine but I was getting video corruption (Its onboard video with onboard sideport memory). The video problem went away when I disabled sideport memory in the bios. After that i tried updating the bios with a new one that came out a few hours ago version F2. Vista is obviously not activated anymore, but I dont have any problems with video when sideport is enabled. Do you think its a possible bios mod problem ? I really hate to bother you as you have been so helpful in the past. I guess its possible gigabyte fixed a problem in the update, but the update notes have very very small detail.

Bios link here, if possible could you mod this one ?

Yep..All manual. You need cbrom, hex editor, isa files, and some slic.bin codes...depending on the type of mod. Some simple arithmetic skills, and a push in the right direction...:D:D (I have a blank epa.bmp and some other sorted files used often, if you need one..lol)

Read the specific notes on the mod your own bios main page, and ask questions to clarify what you dont understand. Zort or myself will point you in the right direction, P4Spooky has been successful as well..

Enjoy, maybe when Yen gets back, we will all learn a few more tricks...:D:D
911Medic, Thanks ! Understood. Probably you need to be good in HEX and see what locations go to where..........interestingly enough, I still need to try the mod you did for me on the PB533. I did the P5 Deluxe and is brilliant.
I am trying to deal with WIN 2008 Server now. Have the 12 in 1 MSDN and the Genuine Enterprise with 2 keys. THey both have OEM folders but not sure if the PID's can take and compute the keys I have. In other words I am not sure if those versions are custome and only KMS will activate them. Cheers

did you add and release a ISA module after your mod. As in finish mod>ISA ISA.BIN> ISA release..(In CBROM)
This corrects the checksum. What type of mod did you do??
I applied this method (http://ifolder.ru/11162577):
******** ma77ds32.fc BIOS component ********

No. Item-Name Original-Size Compressed-Size Original-File-Name
================================================== =============================
0. System BIOS 20000h(128.00K) 12B12h(74.77K) ma77ds32.BIN
1. XGROUP CODE 0DC20h(55.03K) 09825h(38.04K) awardext.rom
2. ACPI Table 0601Bh(24.03K) 02952h(10.33K) ACPITBL.BIN
3. EPA LOGO 0168Ch(5.64K) 0030Dh(0.76K) AwardBmp.bmp
4. GROUP ROM[18] 040A0h(16.16K) 02B97h(10.90K) ggroup.bin
...

------------------------------------------------------------------

Old EPA offset: 12B12+9825+2953=1EC8A
1EC8A + 23h oem header + FFF00000 (1MB ROM) = FFF1ECAD

FFF1ECAD + 13h (target 19 byte acpi increase) = FFF1ECC0

pointer = C0 EC F1 FF

------------------------------------------------------------------

RSDT
Changed size "40" to "44"
Changed oem id "GBT " to "DELL "
Changed oem table id "GBTUACPI" to "M07 "+00
Inserted 4 bytes at end and entered pointer

Added to dummy bios.

Old size: 10578
New size: 10597 (19 byte increase)

------------------------------------------------------------------

781 (epa size)
- 19 increased acpi
---
762 oem module size

Made the Dell oem module.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Wrote new acpi
Wrote oem

Readded EPA at end with cbrom32

------------------------------------------------------------------

PS:
1. It was impossible to readd AwardBmp.bmp to the BIOS. I added it only when renamed to Award.bmp).
2. The size of meminit was changed after readding.
3. The size of RSDT in ACPI of previous BIOSes was 3C, but now it is 40!

I did the mod the same way a F1, so perhaps there was a sideport issue that they fixed.

Hi MrGalaxy, thanks for the feedback. Please checkout my SSV3 guide here:
http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showpost.php?p=53170&postcount=460

When checking for place for SLIC I am looking at section of zeroes above offset 1E000 in the uncompressed system module.

I think you likely made a mistake in your oem mod because compressed acpi should have increased 17 bytes not 19, however you are somewhat vindicated in that my oem mod also got a checksum error. SSV3 seems to be the best method for Gigabyte these days. :)

My apologies if this doesn't belong here, my googleing has brought me here as this thread seems to be populated by some talented bios programmers - hope my request isnt completely out of line =)

I have the Gigabyte EX58-UD3R and i have the understanding that it should be possible to flash this board with the bios from the Gigabyte EX58-UD3R-SLI to enable SLI on the dual PCIX X 16 ports.
The board layout and parts used are identical, id just assumed it was possible without actually seeing there was a separate (but ofc more expensive ^^) product.
When i started to undertake this I had found an article on tweektown.com (http://www.tweaktown.com/news/11708/sneaky_trick_enables_sli_on_non_sli_motherboard/index.html) that showed the process had been done on a very similar gigabyte board the ud4r. More googleing took me to this thread on anandtech (http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.aspx?catid=29&threadid=2284106) confirming that it should be possible on the UD3R.
However, the article on tweektown mentions that the person who did it first used a bios flasher called "Spiflash.exe" this looks to be a modified version of gigabytes own awd flash tool that ignores the code mismatch and lets u flash with the different bios, sadly this tool has kind of vanished from the internet =s. I rationalised that perhaps using a generic flasher from awd I might be able to flash without the tool but failed on that. You can see the results of my thinking here on xtremesystems (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=221703)

So all this waffle in this very nice thread brings me to these two questions =)
a) Could some one here transcoded a bios so the SLI one doesnt report the mismatch to flashspi / awardflash. I had reservations about this due to the vista registrations things, but perhaps that wouldn't be an issue here because manufacturer etc will be the same.
Orginal non SLi Bios for the GB-ex58-UD3R (http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/BIOS_DownloadFile.aspx?FileType=BIOS&FileID=14419)
SLI Bios from the GB-EX58-UD3R-SLI (http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/BIOS_DownloadFile.aspx?FileType=BIOS&FileID=14417)

b) a modified version of flashspi (spiflash.exe) that doesn't care about the bios ID mismatch and flashes anyway - im pretty sure this exisits and some one must have it - its just disappeared from the site where it was originaly hosted
http://www.eyny.com/redirect.php?tid=2536185

If i can resolve this matter successfully I will create some basic webpages (and ofc give masses of credit where its due!) and see if I can get the google pumped to stop mis-information being spread on the matter.

Thanks for your time.

SSV3 = SLIC is put in system module.

Your mod is 0+2 oem mod (SSV1). It is a good way of doing it too. It's the same way version F7 was done.

Sorry, I don't fully understand what you are saying...

0. Did you clear CMOS and load defaults after flash?
1. Did you install the key and certificate (ASUS) from elevated command prompt?
2. What version of vista is this? Was it previously activated?
3. Do you have any softmods? - If so, those need to be completely removed.

Hi p4spooky,

it means, that I can flash the bios, but when I have loaded the bios defaults and switch over to start the PC, Windows Vista is starting, but when the windows screen with that written microsoft corporation starts and vista tries to go on, the system hangs. No chance to start vista completely.

The sytem hangs and when I flash again, the same happens, no chance to start windows vista. Something must be wrong?

And yes, I have cleared the cmos, I have Vista 64, it was activated before with version bios 1.40, no softmods.

I have installed again 1.40 and everything is ok with the system, no booting probs, it works fine.

In the stickies..It is the new tool for SSv2 and MSI bios. It has the capabilities of SSv, SSv2, SSv3 and a few other CKSUM options...It is very complete.

I would venture that most, if not all of the AMI mods in this thread are done with this tool...Just a guess..:D:D

Change the name of the file. Add the .rom to the end. It only works with .rom files.

If you have bios1.40...it should be bios1.40.rom to mod it. Just remove the .rom when you are done..

Put the bios file in the same folder as the tool..

However, please understand that you take a risk when you flash and is not guaranteed. ;)

i need modded BIOS for:

- Motherboard Manufacturer and Model : Zotac X58SLI-A-E
- Bios revision: Version 2K090206 .Initial mass production release
- Bios Type : ??
- Bios SLIC : ASUS
- Bios Link = http://downloads.zotac.com/mediadrivers/mb/bios/paf0.zip

PC with Vista Ultimate x64 SP1 ... Thanx...

Please try this: http://www.box.net/shared/nmyu5a8ey2

Note: Looks like Zotac provides no way to flash from DOS. Please follow the following steps for reducing risk of a dead board:

0. Familiarize yourself with bios recovery options
1. Reboot, load setup defaults
2. Flash ORIGINAL bios (select flash boot block if there is a option in the tool)
3. Clear CMOS, load defaults
4. boot into windows and flash mod bios - don't flash the boot block
5. Reboot, load defaults

Report back please :D

Might i bother one of you with a BIOS mod? Thanks in advance!

This is an ASUS barebones, similar to another already modded bios (V3-P5945GC (http://74.125.95.132/search?q=cache:DtSCMS5kvWwJ:forums.mydigitallife.i nfo/showthread.php%3Fp%3D15599+V3-p5945gc+slic&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us)) but the motherboard is laid out differently due to being slimmer than the v3 (so i'm assuming it's not worth the risk?). Will be using for Server 2008, but from what i've read so far that doesnt matter.

Change the name of the file. Add the .rom to the end. It only works with .rom files.

If you have bios1.40...it should be bios1.40.rom to mod it. Just remove the .rom when you are done..

Put the bios file in the same folder as the tool..

Just noticed this. SLICTool will work with any extension - it just defaults to looking for .ROM. If there is a file size error I would be most suspicious of an incomplete download..... (it checks BIOS is a multiple of 64K)

Andy

Edit: Perhaps he was trying to load the .exe file - as the BIOS is embedded in the flash.exe..... never seen this before...... shouldn't be too difficult..... ;)

The hanging at vista startup with SSV2 is typical of ASUS-like boards when the SLIC is placed after the AMIBIOSC header in the main BIOS. I will add code to SLICTool to detect ASRock BIOSes as not liking this.

Hi

I missed that.... can't find the post... at what stage did the checksum error occur ie. loading into flash tool, after flashing, upon reboot etc..

Has anyone managed to create a successful one??

I haven't removed SSV2 as an option, it will refuse to place the SLIC after the AMIBIOSC string (just like it will for ASUS).... so it wouldn't work in this specific case but provided the SLIC can be fitted in before the AMIBIOSC header it will SSV2 just fine :D

Ah don t worry, this prob was two days ago. Went to an special electronic store and let the chip flash new like a virgin. :) Was really funny, Chip was working, but no MAC adress when booting, so the booting stops, resume with F1. But I found a tool, to write the mac adress into the flash and everything was fine.

But now with that new modded bios everything works great, so the new CPU is waiting for me.

A really great thanks to u, guys!

Oh thanks man! Sorry for being stupid but how do I flash it? Just burn it on a CD and go?

The first choice is a bootable usb flash drive, if your motherboard supports booting from one. It might not though since it's older. Here is a link to the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool which you can use to format a usb flash drive to make it bootable just in case that's an option for you: http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,64963-order,4-page,1-c,peripherals/description.html

Otherwise you can try this bootable floppy or cd image:

bios_floppy.ima
http://www.sendspace.com/file/43zcia

bios_cd.iso
http://www.sendspace.com/file/smjx71

Floppy image can be written with WinImage. Cd image can be burned with ImgBurn (or other program).

After booting to one of those devices,

To flash modded bios type:
awdflash 0501.BIN

To flash original, unmodded bios type:
awdflash 0501.BAK

Remember updating your bios involves risk, more so for modded one than original.

Just wanted to give a feedback regarding that modded bios (http://slics.myftp.org/motherboard_b...P_OEM_SLIC.rar)for
Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-MA780G-UD3H (rev .1.0)
Bios type - Award, version F1

It doesn´t work . After flashing it via flashspi.exe you can get into the bios settings but the computer always stops after saying "verifying the DMI Pool". I used Q-Flash to get my original bios back. AFlashing the modded bios via Q-Flash gives the same result.

Could somebody please modd th new F2d bios for the Gigabyte GA-MA780G-UD3H (rev .1.0), here´s the address:

STOP !!!! STOP !!!!!! I went back and used the old RC6 with OTHERS in the manufacturers name and SS2 AND......AND...... SUCCESS !!!!!!!! It worked.
Andy, not sure what is going on with version RC12 but found old threads my 911Medic and mentions of RC 6 in an ASUS and that made me go back to the old one.
If you want I can do it again and log it? I am happy to help and learn. You put lots of efforts like others to help so it is payback time !

STOP !!!!

Please DO NOT use this thread for discussing Andy's tool issues. That is why we have a separate thread to discuss issues/report issues with the tool. This thread is for BIOS requests only.

Regarding te Asrock bios, you need to select 'Use extra space to shrink' since IB_SLIC module is too big. I see no issues with RC12 so far

My apologies and thanks!

Hello there!

Few days ago I successfully "hacked" a P5Q Pro of a friend. Now I've got the same problem (Vista has deactivated) with the PC of another friend. The mainboard of the system is an ASUS A8NE-FM (code 12/16/2004-NF-CK804-A8NE-FM-00). I havn't found a fitting SLIC-BIOS, yet. Is there any for this board? It's a Fujitsu/Siemens system.

Is it possible to reactivate a deactivated Vista using the BIOS hack?

Thanks a lot!

Greetings,
Smork

For a Gigabyte board, ep45c-ud3r

http://america.giga-byte.com/FileList/BIOS/motherboard_bios_ga-ep45c-ud3r_f3.exe

Dell would be nice, will settle for Asus..

THANKS!
