Flashing is OK but NO Activation:D

Have a DELL Version of Vista 64 Bit
The SLIC is HP..Install a HP cert and it should activate..

If you ABSOLUTELY need DELL...HERE..http://slics.myftp.org/motherboard_bios_ga-ma770-ds3_rev.2.0_fa_DELL.rar

You need the cert to match slic and this is why it didn't activate..It will be easier to just install cert to you install rather than risk another flash..but it is up to you.

Two ways to activate..:D

Let me know how it goes..

@911medic:

Just want to thank you and say that everything worked fine with this:

EP45-UD3P (rev. 1.0) - rev. F5 : Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG
slic=Asus mod 911medic, tested icaruscr,
http://slics.myftp.org/motherboard_b...3p_f5_ASUS.rar
flash from dos with flashspi. no qflash or winflash update

ONLY THING is, when i run everest to check my Mainboard it says:
Unknow Mainbord! Is that normal and has something to do with the "flashing"
Or is my vista maybee missing some drivers? Well except of this everything seems to work quite regular...

Try this ASUS SLIC = http://slics.myftp.org/Maximus-II-ASUS-Formula-1802_ASUS_SLIC.rar

I dont know how they are different??

I use manual v3 with most asus boards, some of the custom mBIOS need the SSV2 because they have code where the slic usually is placed..

The method is very similar to the Slic3 tool, with some minipulation of the checksums..I think the tutorial HERE.. (http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showpost.php?p=5008&postcount=2) Is the closest tutorial I can give you..I just find this works most, not all, of the time..We adjust as necessary, ya know?

Did you try the ISA mod medic911 posted for you last month? Didn't see feedback.

http://slics.myftp.org/NF77v16_Asus.rar

Says programs file part number does not match your system and will not flash
- I am also trying with Phoenix dos flash, I think this is how I had to flash last time..
it will not flash with awdflash
it will under windows, but not dos

Cannot get to flash under dos. I think I did before with Phoenix flasher, but can't seem to find it anymore, lost HD
can anyone help?

Thanks zort. I just tried to install the P07 you mentioned, but it was a no-go. I remember that my board has to have the Nvidia updates instead of the XFX ones. They have to have file names like the P08 that I requested the mod for.

Rename "XFX 680i LT_680iLT_721N9P07.BIN_Slic" from the .rar to "721N9P07.BIN" before flashing.

You're right that it's a good idea to get the nforce drivers from Nvidia since they will be the most up to date. That's a separate issue from the BIOS though.

The mBios increases memory compatibility, tighter PL (performance level) and lower voltages. You also get a nice dragon logo

Thanks. The BIOS did go from P06 to P07.

I wasn't talking about Nvidia drivers. XFX's tech support told me that they make some of their BIOS updates and Nvidia makes some of the BIOS updates. It didn't sound kosher to me, but oh well. :D

awdflash 8.73 in bios tools pack

A mod might not be possible with this one because there's so little room left. (Same problem as P08 for zzdiesel's mb.)

Total compress code space = 57000h(348.00K)
Total compressed code size = 56F1Fh(347.78K)
Remain compress code space = E1h(0.22K)

Update: Here's an experimental one you can try if you're adventurous. I replaced the EPA logo with an all black one (more compressible) and used the newly created space for an oem module.

How do you mean...BIOS has not started..?
The flashing procedure wont start or the computer cant boot ?
I rewrote the BIOS, then I rebooted, but, nothing can't be seen on my monitor. Even BIOS mode won't start.
Afterword, I moved the jumper pin to boot the recovery mode and rewrote the Bios
again forcibly. So the computer revived.

Working modification for Gigabyte GA-MA790X-DS4 (rev.1) f5 slic=ASUS (http://www.zshare.net/download/511234940a47a53a/) :)

Thanks! Vista Ultimate now activated with key 6F2D7-2PCG6-YQQTB-FWK9V-932CC.

Modded BIOS was flashed with QFlash at boot, from version F5 -> version F5c -> modded version (Had to do it this way; flashing version F5 to modded version did not work, checksum error at boot).

One thing does not work however; It will not resume from S1. No problem for me as I prefer S3, which works.

Thanks again!

Okay I can confirm that Yen's method is working for both XP and Vista. Yen's bios mod has asus slic so installing XP with an asus oembios modified retail cd and using asus certs in vista both activate fine. Thanks a lot.

Hello again...
I have a second confirm for the GA-MA790GP-DS4H Board. Yen kindly re-modded the Bios with a new method, the goal was to have a more fitting method for Gigabyte Bioses including a Gigabyte SLIC. unfortunately the Gigabyte SLIC did not work out, it showed up but did not activate Vista, which points towards a wong SLIC/Cert combination.
To verify that the Method is working anyway, Yen did the mod with the standard Asus-SLIC. This Post shall confirm that the Method of Yen is working and also that the testing-Bios is working fully, stable and flawless.

Hi markusof, at least we're making progress! The isa mod works for most people. Do you have vistaloader or other boot loader installed? That would override any bios mod and cause it not to work. If not, there are some different oem mods we can try.

I haven't even went into windows but after a half decent flash to see a slic, which was not there, I think it was the one a guy did with the automated tool.

I am flashing from dos with usb stick.... works great now that I have awd883....
If we can get around this checksum error...
I will have to look at the last post to see If I see a SLIC
Thanks

I've retried them all with no avail...

Here's an oem mod you can try:

This one is EPA at bottom, OEM where EPA was.

Update: Link removed. That one wouldn't flash. Posted a new one with same checksum as original. See later post(s).

markusof, did you try with awd883? Maybe awd893 included in the link above isn't compatible either. Also flash the original bios and reboot before flashing the modded one if you aren't using the original already.

Edit: I noticed the original bios has a 8-bit checksum of "51". I'll update the modded version to match this.

I see that the latest bios is available (but untested) for the rev 2.0 of this board, but I would like to request a bios mod for the rev 1.0 board:

- Manufacter And Model: GIGABYTE GA-M61PM-S2 Rev.1.0
- BIOS Revision: F5 <= Edit - should read: F9C
- BIOS Type: Award
- BIOS Oem: ASUS
- BIOS Link: http://america.giga-byte.com/FileList/BIOS/motherboard_bios_ga-m61pm-s2_f9c.exe

Thanks so much for this and other bioses that have been very useful for me :)

A mod might not be possible with this one because there's so little room left. (Same problem as P08 for zzdiesel's mb.)

Total compress code space = 57000h(348.00K)
Total compressed code size = 56F1Fh(347.78K)
Remain compress code space = E1h(0.22K)

Update: Here's an experimental one you can try if you're adventurous. I replaced the EPA logo with an all black one (more compressible) and used the newly created space for an oem module.

http://www.sendspace.com/file/9tpkdd

I used the one you linked to, version F9c, not F5.

Yes F9C was the intended BIOS - although the Gigabyte's website didn't say that it was a beta, I don't expect any issues.

Your creative solution paid off:

I rewrote the BIOS, then I rebooted, but, nothing can't be seen on my monitor. Even BIOS mode won't start.
Afterword, I moved the jumper pin to boot the recovery mode and rewrote the Bios
again forcibly. So the computer revived.
Sorry to hear it didn't worked...:(
Anyway it is nice that your board has a backup bios, so you were able to recover...;)

If you want me, I can atempt another mod, but I will need a ACPI Scope report.
Install and open ACPI Scope.
Go to File-->Load-->ACPI Information-->From BIOS.

I haven't tried that, but this guide might be useful to you or someone else:
http://www.rebelshavenforum.com/sis-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=52;t=000027

Was there anything in particular that you wanted to unlock? It's usually best to only change what you need to.

I think most people will be happy to use them. By the way I compared 1b in yours and johnalvins mods and they were identical except for the extra ASUS_FLASH strings (not needed anyway). So you made it correctly.

I probably won't have time myself (have to work), but maybe someone else will. Most CPU's are multiplier locked, so even if you were able to change the setting in the BIOS it wouldn't have an effect.

Correct me if I'm wrong..one was made with the auto tool...

I think the bios may fail regardless who mods it..The Ami for ASUS are not very picky. Usually they work or they dont, very rarely do they brick. I think the posters attitude was unnecessary. If you are going to learn on some, ASUS is the one:D:D

I had a look and it seems that this bios has very few options, locked or otherwise..I think it is not worth the risk, but later maybe I will adjust it. Mostly memory timings, and not many of them from what I saw ;)

Did mine manually and used MMTool. Anyway, made a little vb program to automatically mod a 1b dump (so that it can be checked and integrated with the program of your choice).

1) Use MMTool (I use http://www.lejabeach.com/sisubb/MMTool_3.22_Mod_21FiX.rar version found at Rebel's Haven) to extract 1B.
2) Patch using my little prog - http://drop.io/slictool (VB6 source code included)
3) Use MMTool to replace module 1B.

Basically a less sophisticated method of the autopatcher but it allows you to inspect the intermediate step.

Happy to recieve constructive feedback.

1. Will this work for BIOS with FC module (like some new Asus Bios?)

As far as the FC module...no It will not do the work..I guess it could be fitted to it, but you would have to extract the 1b and the FC modules..Not saving any work.

I think the 80h module will still be affected. The modifiy time and date will change, as well as byte in various places. I am not proficient in my knowledge of the changes here in the 80h mod as some, but I think the difference will still be noticed.

I will strengthen my knowledge in the coming month, as my educating job is on break...

This is a handy tool, but I dont think it shortens my time any..Strong work though!!:D:D

Some will find it handy, and that is success in and of itself.

As far as bothering us..I enjoy the change and will help as I can. Bother away, some out there are a pleasure to assist...others, well..............:eek:

Hi

Not that sophisticated I'm afraid. The likes of yen, 911medic and zort have probably forgotten more about BIOS modding than I will ever know!!! It very simply modifies a binary image of the (extracted) 1B module by finding and inserting the SLIC at 200h before 'AMIBIOS', and finding and modding the RSDT and XSDT tables size, OEM table string and SLIC pointer. I have 2 asus boards that only need the above hence the tool. It does not manipulate the BIOS directly. I need to look (out of own interest) further at FC methods, v2 methods etc... although I don't have any of these boards to test personally. I certainly don't intend to compete with tools like yen's.

Take care,
Andy

My understanding is MMTool is the safer one to use. Amimmwin is over 3 years old so I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't handle some newer bioses correctly. Also in the case of Asus BIOS, amimmwin overwrites "ASUSTEK" signature which has to be fixed afterward. I do use it sometimes for this:
amimmwin xxx.rom /info xxx.txt.

I'd recommend looking into SSV2 next. It can be used with any AMI BIOS, and is the safest way since no offsets change for any modules. (It takes longer and isn't always needed though.)

Hi

Have done the dos one. I would never suggest flashing a bios from windows and certainly not a slic one (may very well not work). Best way to do it is to flash to normal (non modded) 1.50 first then to slic'd 1.50. You could do the normal one through windows but dos is still safest.

Some Vistaloader (softmods) are using the MBR or PBS. Formatting doesn't remove them......You have to re-partition the drive, or to use special uninstaller VOATK tool.
Also easybcd is able to rewrite MBR / PBS....

My thoughts as well. Hence this tool that can be used with mmtool!

I am looking at the SSV2 thread. Any guides for AMI BIOS file structure. Seems to have some sort of initial header (ASUSTEK padded to 10h with 0s then 12 FFh), followed by a 20 byte header for each module and then the compressed module. Repeats for all modules then padded with FFh until F0000h position in file. Then some sort of boot block.

Any guides and any idea what sort of compression algorithm... looks like some sort of LZW algorithm.

Andy

Some Vistaloader (softmods) are using the MBR or PBS. Formatting doesn't remove them......You have to re-partition the drive, or to use special uninstaller VOATK tool.
Also easybcd is able to rewrite MBR / PBS....

Okay, I ran that tool, though I am having the same problem. Probably the moded BIOS is going to help me :). I posted my requested two pages back.

Windows> Not Activated...

the command from dos would be AFUDOS <FILENAME>

THEN CLEAR AND LOAD DEFAULTS.. CORRECT? DOS Flash Utilities are the pits...

What do I do now please?

You need to install a cert and the serial number. The bios only allows activation via cert and number, it is only one piece of the puzzle.

See the All SLICS tested/not tested thread for information at the top.

It's a simple way to add slic to award bios. It doesn't change any of the existing modules. It just adds a new one to the end, and it works on almost all Gigabyte mb's. Tommy refers to the person who made this version of the isa module. It works better than earlier versions.

Someone tried a modded F5 beta and it had a problem and he had to recover (luckily mb has dualbios). It's possible it could have been how he flashed it or bad luck, but the safest thing would be to use F3 until F5 final is out.

If you want to try it anyway,

Download cbrom:

The "isa" is a module containing slic code that is added to the original bios using the cbrom utility. A cert (digital certificate) is a xxxx.xrm-ms file that you install in Vista. The cert has to match the slic code in your bios to activate.

Ex. If you added HP1.BIN to your bios you would need to install HP.XRM-MS in Vista to activate. (Note: ISA1.BIN is the .rar is Asus in case you want to use it.)

works perfect..

He must of screwed something up when he flashed. Ive never had a bad flash in my life,(15 years plus in computers) but that is because i take a ton of precautions beforehand..

so you might want to go ahead and add this one to the tested bios's.

I used the ISA1.bin (ASUS slic) per your instructions.. i can up load the file if someone tells me where to up it :)

f4 has an issue, dont know whether it was a beta bios from Gigabyte, or the modder added something to it, but it updated the intel ICH10 to version 8.5.. Gigabyte must of either decided to go back to version 8.0. or again, the modder decided to add 8.5.

someone has to look at the f4 to see which is the case. f5 here DOES NOT APPEAR to be a beta bios. but a pre release final.

again, works perfect man, thanks!!

G'luck:)

Edit: Don't use the switches. Update to the original 1003 bios using built in EZflash before. Enter setup, load defaults, save and exit bios.
After that flash the mod like this: AFUDOS /iP6T1003.ROM from pure DOS.
(This will not update the bootblock a second time, the BBL is needed in case of a bad flash, it would be safer this way)

GA-EP45 UD3R F5 Modded Bios here Asus SLIC

http://www.sendspace.com/file/3apy23

tested by me fully works..

ONLY FLASH in pure DOS, from boot disk or PEN FLASH DRIVE USING ONLY FLASHSPI

bios file link = http://www.sendspace.com/file/5jcyoe
flashspi link = http://www.sendspace.com/file/jec6zc
autoexe link = http://www.sendspace.com/file/msphjc

PLACE ALL 2 OF THESE ON A DOS START UP DISK or on a pen drive, IN THE SAME DIRECTORY.

type at dos prompt, making sure all files are in same directory;

flashspi ud3r.f5.bin

let flashspi do its job. FLASH ONLY FROM NON OVERCLOCKED ENVIORMENT!!

WAIT AT LEAST 10 SECONDS until FLASHSPI SAYS IT IS FINISHED FLASHING..

POWER DOWN BY EITHER UNPLUGGING OR SWITCHING OFF THE PS'S STANDBY BUTTON.
in other words, MAKE SURE AFTER U HAVE WAITED at least 10 seconds, you totally disconnect the power..

wait 5 seconds, then power back on.

Using this method, I have NEVER had one bad flash in 15 years, since I got into computers at that time!!

This is how you avoid bad flashes.. Use this technique as well in ALL THINGS your flash, and u wil NEVER have one bad flash, except if there is an act of nature that screws it up like a power outtage.

or you simply SCREW UP YOURSELF!!

gl!!

Here it is:

http://rapidshare.com/files/174524012/P6T1003.zip.html

Use AFUDOS (I used v229ES) "AFUDOS /iP6T1003.ROM /pbnc /n"

G'luck:)

Edit: Don't use the switches. Update to the original 1003 bios using built in EZflash before. Enter setup, load defaults, save and exit bios.
After that flash the mod like this: AFUDOS /iP6T1003.ROM from pure DOS.
(This will not update the bootblock a second time, the BBL is needed in case of a bad flash, it would be safer this way)
Yen

Thank you for the proper procedure Yen :) I was doing it the "old" way, glad mine was successfull so I didn't lose the BB.
Sp in future BIOSes this board I should flash the "normal" BIOS first with EZFLASH then use aN SLIC-modded version of the BIOS or will the BIOS retain the SLIC?

Hey Zort... Silly question... As my motherboard is a revision 1.1 will this bios be alright?

Sometimes different revisions of motherboards do have different bioses. I checked gigabyte's site earlier. There were 3 revisions for this motherboard, and all the revisions showed the same fileid for the bios download, so in this case I think it's ok.

Hi, I have a Dell Precision 470 and was wondering if someone could whip together a BIOS mod for it. I've tried using a softmod (Vistaloader 3 and WoW5) and both didn't work. I have a feeling there are some SLIC entries in the bios.

Computer: Dell Precision 470
OS: Vista 64bit Ultimate
BIOS Version: A07
Link: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/format.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&deviceid=258&libid=1&releaseid=R119956&vercnt=8&formatcnt=0&SystemID=WRK_PNT_P4_470&servicetag=&os=BIOSA&osl=en&catid=-1&impid=-1
Type: Not sure but it seems Phoenix is the trend with Dell

Thanks

I second the request. The P470 did not ship with Vista and it does not have the right Slics. The latest BIOS dates back to March 2006. I've got two P470 systems I would like to put Vista Ultimate on.

I've search the forum and there isn't a modded BIOS posted.

Thanks!

Yes, but if you do other settings inside BIOS (8CORES-HTT-EIST and so on)
it will fu*k up whole Bios ! (Trust me i have tested a lot)

Try F4R beta bios and SLIC will squeeze out other important Functions !
