Thanks a lot lot

Quote Yen:

I suggest to you to flash from pure DOS, it's a safer way:

The best way is to use Awdflash
.
http://rapidshare.com/files/137340324/AWDFL882.exe.html

Do you know how it works? You have to make a bootable floppy or a bootable USB stick, copy awdflash and the mod onto it. Boot with floppy / stick and type AWDFL882.exe 319.rom /py/sn/f/cc

Let me know if it works! If not, send me the AcpiScope report (*.ats)

well, if you read the "README 1st" file in the rar... it clearly states the password is "Los Angeles" without the quotes.

i took the liberty of extracting it, and uploading the bios without the password to my webspace...

thanks in advance if anyone can do this.

Requesters,

I have noticed that a good number of request posts are not adhereing to the format that is explained in this thread

http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showthread.php?t=283

and many are not bothering to search the "tested" thread for a mod that was already done and having the modders doing the search for them???

Even though they obviously do this because they enjoy the challenge, the modders and moderators here unselfishly donate their free time and talent and alll they ask is for you to follow a few simple steps.

Its in your best interest to read through the stickys and get a good understanding of the whole process. While you dont have to actually learn how to mod a bios yourself, it behoves you to become familar with such topics as how to properly flash your MB, how to rescue it from a bad flash etc. You certainly need to be familar with your hardware setup and working within your bios setup routines.

I have even seen a request where the person wasnt even sure who the maker of the motherboard was in his computer, but was still asking for a mod???

So please take your time and read through the threads below as it only makes it easier for both you and the modder. After posting please realize that the internet crosses all timezones and not all modders are of the same skill and some bios/motherboards are more difficult to work on so your request might not get replied to as quickly as others.

Edit: Completely new to BIOS technology? Read here first!

Finally.... feedback please good and bad, especially when something goes wrong be as specific as possible i.e. checksum error... when is the error occuring etc.

(I hope the senior guys/gals here dont mind my rant here :) I know this has been said in various posts but just noticed a trend)

Thanks

Hey Fzeven,

I successfully flashed my bios today using Yen's version of awdflash.exe. Using his switches, i flashed your dell mod. Unfortunately i still get the checksum error, which seems to mean that the flash software isnt the issue here.

Any ideas?

Let's see if this helps, slic = Dell.

hello all, i was wondering if it would be possible to mod this bios..

thank you a million times if possible.

Flash from DOS like this:
AFU879 538W1P32.bin /py/sy/cc/cd/cp/wb

Take note that this isn't afudos, it is awdflash, but named strangely.
Also one mistake at flash.bat, AFU879 is named AFU897H, while the tool's name is AFU879.

"It sounds like your SLIC is only half mapped. Half the memory address is there, the other half is blank. This is a known issue with many HP/Compaq.I don't know of a solution at present. Perhaps if a solution to this known issue is available, reginakampher would be the one to ask."

I could not figure out how to mod the bios files from Biostars ftp site since they are not compressed. I will provide feedback.

I hesitated to post at first, but I tried using VistaLoader 3.0.0.1 and also tried slmgr.vbs -ilc ASUS.XRM-MS and -ipk key for Ultimate. I verified that ISA was present with CBROM before I flashed, but SLIC was still missing according to Everest after flashing. Any suggestions?

BIOS Info Tool reports your bios as AMI, but when I'm trying to open it with some of the standard AMI tool, I end up with an error.

You can also try the new WoW soft mod:
http://rapidshare.com/files/137855773/WoW_1_02_Dell.exe

Note. This soft mod works only if your bios has a half mapped SLIC.
To find out, install and open ACPI scope.
Got ot File-->Load ACPI..-->From BIOS, save it as ats file and upload please.

In the mean time you can try installing the patch and make another ats report after the installation of the patch.

No you can't hex edit it.
It all depends on how the bios was modded.
If it is an ISA mod, it is easyer to change the SLIC.
Just extract and release the module, hex edit it and insert it back again.

If it is a manual mod the procedure is a bit longer.

I think its the Dell-OEM Slic...can you build in an ASUS-only slic-code in this bios?

Here is the link again: ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/socket775/P5B-E/P5B-E-ASUS-1803.zip

Thank you twice!

Here is an asus slic, I used the autopatcher for ami with FC10 module which showed two green lights on both slic add so it should work.

Can someone please take a look:

Need a smart guy to mod the following BIOS please:

**Motherboard Manufacturer and Model
Asus IPIBL-LB (it's an OEM HP motherboard)
Specs: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01324212&lc=en&cc=ca&dlc=en&product=3688702&os=2093&lang=en

**Bios revision:

**Bios Type:
AMI

**Bios Link

Direct link to file:

The board is very similar to the Asus IPIBL-LA, so I am assuming that the BIOS mod might be similar to the one discussed here:

BIOS Info Tool reports your bios as AMI, but when I'm trying to open it with some of the standard AMI tool, I end up with an error.

You can also try the new WoW soft mod:
http://rapidshare.com/files/137855773/WoW_1_02_Dell.exe

Note. This soft mod works only if your bios has a half mapped SLIC.
To find out, install and open ACPI scope.
Got ot File-->Load ACPI..-->From BIOS, save it as ats file and upload please.

In the mean time you can try installing the patch and make another ats report after the installation of the patch.

Thanks Petar for your help.

Here's my .ats file:

http://rapidshare.com/files/137931849/hpnc8230.ats.html

I don't know if it's a half mapped or full mapped slic table.
If i understand, halp mapped goes the soft way, full mapped goes the hard mode way?

I'm a bit scary to use grub/wow as i read it will modify the mbr... is it "safe" and can't be detected or it will be better to go the hard mod way?

Yor bios doesn't contains SLIC at all, so the new WoW soft mod won't work.

Yes, my vista is activated, no more countdown. I proceed like you told me, using the cmd line:

Than after the Vista installation you will need to manualy import the cert and the key.
e.g.
slmgr.vbs -ilc c:\dell.xrm-ms
slmgr.vbs -ipk xxxxxx-key
and you will be activated just as the OEM's does.

After that, i click on activate and it pass.

My only question now is it will still be activated if i'm doing all the updates? Not so sure...

btw, i haven't try thr wow/grub activation.

It seems that you've used MAK key to activate, couse if the activation is OEM SLP, than there is no need to click on activate.
You can freely install all updates, and there is no need for wow/grub.

This one still gives the "cmos checksum error - loading defaults".

SLIC is not present in the ACPI tables when i check with everest.

It isn't the problem to get the slic in but more of avoiding the cmos checksum failure.

Thank you. However something odd has happened. WITHOUT flashing the modded BIOS I installed Ultimate with an OEM cert in the proper folder.

Is it actually properly activated? Will it stay activated?
Windows now reports that it is activated? How can it be activated when I didn't even modify the BIOS??
Are you shure you aren't using some soft mod ??

Can you please uninstall the cracks of any.
You can use voatktoools to uninstall them.

After uninstallation of the cracks (if any), can you please install ACPI Scope.
Open ACPI Scope and go to File-->Load ACPI Information-->From BIOS

Q-Flash Utility is a flash utility built in the buis it self.
There has been many GB boards with built in flash utilityes, but they were all succesfully flashed with the tool that GB provided with the bios it self.
In this case flashspi.
The mod that I did for you is ISA mod, a mod that never bricked a board.

The unmodded bios has a coplete SLIC, but there is some romhole that overwrites the secnod half of the SLIC.
I can find which one it is and remove it, look closely at lenovo process on how to calculate the adresses of the romholes.
The adress of the SLIC can bee seen from the ats report.
Knowing all this, you can find which romhole to remove, but I dont want to go that way.
There is much safer way to mod it by renaming the original SLIC and adding a new one.

Thank you! I'll report later whether this works or not.

Well, flashed from original 0703 bios to 1104 with ezflash in the bios.
Did some testing and decided to install vista. I downloaded your bios and again tried to flash with ezflash. This didn't work for some strange reason. I also tried to flash with a bootdisk but that gave me problems, just as the hirens bootcd that doesn't even wanna boot on this mobo :-(

So I tried the asus windows updater that's located on the p5q-pro cd.
I flashed and it told me to power down the pc.
SO I shutdown windows, but when the monitor disabled, the computer was still spinning. So after 5 minutes or so I resetted it. It didn't power up anymore. I did all the bios clear tricks, but without luck.
The mobo starts (I hear the first beep), but then a big cursor appears an the topleft side of the screen.

Well RMA'ing it. Did anybody else had problems with this modded bios?

Oh, did the same flashing with asus windows flash on my p5b and p5e board without any problems.

If this turns out to be Phoenix, I would like to request for a BIOS mod for an Emaxx motherboard that was posted here before, except I was thinking it is an Award BIOS. If my assumption that it was Award BIOS then modding is no longer necessary. Below is the information that you might need:

Neither of them work..SLIC in Everest, but no activation. There are two slics in Everest. One from Intel and one from the Dell/Asus you did. Is there a way to sub the DELL for the intel??

The BIOS is contained in the vmwp.exe, it has a SLIC table but when I try changing the SLIC to other then the one listed virtual machines no longer boot, but rather just hang at the BIOS upon launching.

Thanks petar, currently I am trying to figure out the manual method of ami bios. I have run into a few that i couldnt use the ami auto methods because I was getting a locked error message when I ran the program. So I am assuming that the only way to mod it is manually, but the superstatic tutorials are a bit confusing(at least to me, I know Yen has explained it but the explanation runs across numerous posts) so i have been trying to work through them. Also because I run Vista64 I cant run ACPIscope so I can only rely on everest. I will take a look at the whole romhole issue that you pointed out also.

AWARD bioses are now under Phoenix.
We name Phoenix Award bioses as AWARD.
So this is an award bios.
Flash your modded or unmodded bios from DOS like this:
awdflash EMX690V20.BIN /py /sn /cc /cd /cp /LD /R

Gee! Thanks a lot Mr @petar sir. Now, I'm gonna have to mod my bios, though I have to admit that I am a little nervous about doing so. Just afraid I might lose my motherboard because this is the only motherboard I have. If you no longer see me updating around this site, I would have probably bricked my board. :D

Of course I do hope that won't be the case, because even though this board is just $60, still that's a lot of money I couldn't afford to loose. But considering the help that I will get from you guys, I'm sure everything will work fine. First time is always thrilling, not to mention pretty scary too.

As always, thank you!

Hello Modders,

I typically avoid playing with BIOSes as the possible outcome of a bricked board is quite frightening to me regardless of whether they accept the risk or not. This BIOS is a special case as it is a server 2008 virtual machine BIOS. Since there is no risk of physical damage, I have been playing with it for couple of days with no success. I extracted the BIOS image from the vmwp.exe with Restorator and the download link is below. I used amimmwin to see if it would recognize it since it has to be used to reinsert the 1b module and it doesn't recognize it. MMtool 2.22.1 decompress it but MMtool 3.12 does not. I also tried to directly edit the BIOS file with WinHex by replacing the SLIC, RSDT, and XSDT to no avail. My apologies for my ignorance. Can this BIOS be modded? If it can be modded, can someone mod it and kindly tell me the steps I should have taken? I have also included the .ats report from within the server 2008 virtual machine. Thank you very much.

This bios needs to be flashed from DOS like this:
afudos /i<bios.rom> /pbnc /n

BTW. Have you recovered your bios ??
To recover make a bootable Floppy and save your unmodded bios to it.
Rename it to amiboot.rom

The oem7 method always activates if flashed succsesfull.
ISA metod is much safer (never seen a bricked board) and preferd to use as first option to mod.
Avoid doing amnual mod if there are sensitive modules like PPMINT MINIT HTDLL.
Try the ISA metod first if this modules are present.

Which modules are you refering to ??
JPEG....???
This modules are support for the logo.

No, no softmods..Fresh installs, all of them..

I have since flashed to stock bios and have a bootloader installed..

If I remove the bootloader with VOATKTOOLS, re-flash with your bios mod,

GraceSlic: Thank you for the feedback, it was my first try with slp1 :) Pretty sure Vista will ok too.
I instal XP and this is working and I see with Everst a Slic tabel by Motherboard - ACPI, so I think Vista will also works but therefore I need a bigger harddrive.
Flagmax - THANKS

Are you shure you aren't using any soft mods ??
BTW. Can you make ACPI Scope report...
Install and open ACPI Scope.
Go to File-->Load ACPI Information-->From BIOS
Save it as *.ats file and upload please.

Thanks for the thought.....

Here is the ACPISCOPE file (http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/8/13/2048424/bios_medic911.ats)

Just a question..Maybe a bit simplistic.;)

In the ACPIScope file..the RSDT OEM ID reads 'GDELL', whereas the SLIC table OEM ID is 'DELL'..Is this the norm??

I have looked at some of the Award bios I have Modded with success, and these two fields match... but there is too much I don't understand about the method you used to mod the bios in question..

I am in your debt for looking at this for me..I am curious as to the reason for the no activation with the last bios mod..Thank you!!

please attempt to add asus or dell slic to this bios..I have been unsuccessful thus far

- Motherboard Manufacturer and Model = Foxconn G31AX-K
- Bios Type = Phoenix/Award
- Bios revision = 812F1P01
- Bios SLIC = ASUS or DELL

Link to Original bios=Foxconn Bios Here (http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/8/13/2048424/foxconnBios.zip)

Thanks again...
Here is a working mod for you:
http://rapidshare.com/files/139380528/812F1P01.rar
SLIC = Dell

Flash from DOS like this:
awd873 812F1P01.BIN /py /sn /cc /cd /cp /LD /R

Link to awdflash:
http://rapidshare.com/files/113927890/awd873.rar (http://rapidshare.com/files/139178732/812F1P01.rar)

Note. The extra SLIC table that was apearing was inside the ACPITBL but only partialy mapped.
So this time I didnt add a new SLIC, I simply edited the existing one.
About your question "DELL or GDELL"...my mistake...
BTW. To keep the relative offsets of the modules, I replaced the original ACPITBL by hex editing it with an bogus oems.bin, wich isnt called at all.

Try this:
http://rapidshare.com/files/137681421/538W1P32.zip
SLIC = ASUS

Flash from DOS like this:
AFU879 538W1P32.bin /py/sy/cc/cd/cp/wb

Take note that this isn't afudos, it is awdflash, but named strangely.
Also one mistake at flash.bat, AFU879 is named AFU897H, while the tool's name is AFU879.

did not work, vista not activated.

thanks anyway.

Thanks Alot.

But as for the bios itself. Flawless.

I solved my dead bios problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Since it was dead already I tried to short circuit my 8pin bios chip. It's not the real bios chip, but a part where the bios is stored or something.
I short circuited the two pins on the top right of that chip and it engaged the bios recovery option.
