I have PhoenixBIOS on an HP laptop. How do I make a copy of the BIOS so that I can post it and have it Modified? The only help I get from HP concerning BIOS is an executable file that flashes my BIOS. I am a newb and know nothing about htis stuff. Thanks for any and all help.

Hello. I've searched but found nothing or older version. I am requesting for a mod using ASUS SLIC

- Model: MSI Wind U100 laptop
- BIOS: AMI
- Version: 1.05

The BIOS already has a SLIC table in it but it's for MSI_NB MEGABOOK, and I couldn't find any oem certificate for it. That's why I'm requesting for it to be changed to ASUS SLIC instead, if possible. Thanks in advance

You have a very interesting SLIC table. As you suspected, you do indeed have a SLIC table with the OEM ID and OEM table ID of MSI_NBMEGABOOK BUT the public key and marker is actually for a MEDIONMEDIONAG SLIC. Hopefully someone is modding your BIOS as we speak. In the mean time, if you wish, try installing the Medion certificate. I doubt it will work but hey, its worth a try. I am very curious as to the other elements of your unmodded BIOS. I would be very grateful if you could install ACPIScope. After installing ACPIScope, go to "File" then "Load ACPI Information". Choose "From BIOS" and give it few seconds to load the information. Go to "File" again and choose "Save As". Save it with the default .ats extension and upload it. Thank you in advance if you choose to do so.

Thanks for taking a look at it Yen. Regina already provided me with the cert also but as she said the public key and marker are for another rebadged MSI laptop (Medion). I've tried both certs but they wouldn't activate. I hope you could find a solution to this. Thanks again.

Also, I haven't flashed yet the BIOS that is available in the MSI site since the version of the BIOS I have know is already 1.05, which is the same as the one from the site. However, I don't know if they are the same. The unmodded BIOS SLIC table dump I provided in my previous post came directly from my laptop.

***EDIT***

I re-flashed my BIOS using the one from the site but still not activated using the MSI cert. I guess the BIOS were identical.

Yes, this bios contains a SLIC. It's a compete Medion SLIC with a MSI header and needs to be modified. (To change the OEM to MEDIONMEDIONAG)

The problem is: They've removed the info header of the bios or it's no more a AMI8 core bios, I'm not able to extract any module of it.

This is the first AMI bios.:(
I'm not able to locate the 1b module manually so far. Maybe a hexdump of the bios is useful (IMO a little chance only).

To get one please try this:

Install and open hwdirect, go to memory dump. Enter fff00000 without "h" and size 100000 without "h", press dump.
Right click into window, select all, right click again, copy. Paste as new file into winhex. (Open winhex and press Shift + insert key) Make sure ASCII-hex is selected. Save file and upload, please!
To get Hwdirect to run at a 64 bit Vista, press F8 at startup and disable driver enforcement. This will last for one session only and allows Hwdirect to run.
Please upload the dump.

MSI has protected that bios against modding.

Some research is needed. Unfortunately I don't know much about the structure of a AMI bios to make a manual mod. I have to check the Chinese sites as well. But the chances to get a mod are very low this time.

It'll be good to open an extra thread and post the dump there, just in case this gets lost here.......

That sucks to know :( MSI is trying to be clever eh? :D

Anyway, Medion Akoya is a MSI clone. I would assume its BIOS would be identical to MSI though it would carry the MEDION data. Maybe you could take a look at this post and see if it's possible and just use the MEDION cert on it.

Hi. I am a bit confused and hope someone here can enlighten me.

I have a Gigabyte GA-EX38-DS4 board which has AWARD BIOS. I found the already modded F3 bios for me here. I also downloaded the original BIOS from Gigabytes site to put on my recovery floppy incase something bad happens, and it comes with the flash utility called flash895.exe. This is where I am getting confused, the provided flash utility from GA´s site is NOT an AWARD flash util but an AMI BIOS flash util?? Atleast it says so when the GUI starts when I run the flash895.exe with no parameters?

A friend of mine flashed his GA mobo with the mentioned (flash895.exe) flash util today and it was succesfull. And also the recovery bios thread states that I should put AWDFLASH.EXE on my recovery floppy along with the autoexec.bat and the bios file. This is confusing to me, I have award bios but GA provide AMI-flasher with their bios:es and the recovery floppy uses Awdflash? What should I use on my recovery-floppy, GA´s provided util, or awdflash.exe as stated in the thread and which is not the same as GA provides???

That tool is for AMI bios 8.00 and you have version 7 thats why it won't work. Hopefully someone whos been doing modding for a while will help you out.

Sorry to bug again, the 901 Bios slic worked fine, but the bios itself is buggy. this new bios 1004, seems to have resolved some issues as I ran it un modded slic.. the link to this bios is;

Can you please install and open ACPI Scope.
Got to File-->Load ACPI Information-->From BIOS

Sorry to bug again, the 901 Bios slic worked fine, but the bios itself is buggy. this new bios 1004, seems to have resolved some issues as I ran it un modded slic.. the link to this bios is;

It makes sense to use the cc switch, some mobo's won't boot after a modded biosflash.
If that happens you have to open you're case and clear it manually.

Thanx. A friend of mine flashed his bios last night with a modded bios and he used the gigabyte provided flasher with the option to clear cmos and at first boot he got the cmos checksum error, next boot all ok - enter bios and load defaults. All OK.

Just wanted to know if I should expect such an error too after flashing since him and me both have GA boards

Hi, a have a problem with the following Gigabyte GA-EP45-DQ7 bios. I tried BBmarker BBpubkey and the ISA (ISA2, ISA3) method, but I can't get the SLIC to show in Everest and Vista can't be activated. My further research didn't help much, so some help from a pro would be great, maybe with a short description, so that I can mod the next version by myself.

No errors found when compiled. There is two bios files within this zipfile, one is the original (A7349NMS.ORG) the other 7349ASUS.ROM is the one with ASUS for XP and Vista.

Make a bootable floppy/cd/usb stick copy the afud408.exe and the ROM file to it.

Please use the command :

Afud408.exe /i7349ASUS.ROM /pbnc /n

Please let us know if it worked or not.

Where did you find the GB SLIC at the first place ?
I've never seen a GB SLIC or a GB Cert.
The ISA modules that I gave you, have a ASUS SLIC in them.
If you modded your bios with one of those ISA modules, use the ASUS Cert.

I'm not exactly fond of betas, but this one has been listed on the ASUS site for some time now... Was actually hoping it would not have to be done, but that's ok. This new board is such a huge improvement over the olde MS-7050 XBIOS modded for me... and it is preferred to let the pros do such work.. even if I am well versed in most of PC... Where did you find the GB SLIC at the first place ?
I've never seen a GB SLIC or a GB Cert.
The ISA modules that I gave you, have a ASUS SLIC in them.
If you modded your bios with one of those ISA modules, use the ASUS Cert.

Thanks very much for your quick mod and response. I'll hold off until a modder has looked at it. I have successfully flashed past mods with awd883.exe in pure DOS with similar settings as you have listed (awd883.exe XXXX.bin /cc /cd /cp /py /sn /e) and it has worked each time.

I'll check back to see what Yen or any other modders have to say if this is a safe bin to flash. Files downloaded and ready to go :) Once flashed, I will confirm working or not.

Edit: Decided to go ahead and update with modded firmware even though no mods stated it was safe to do so. The good thing, it is confirmed tested and working (using awd883.exe XXXX.bin /cc /cd /cp /py /sn /e in pure DOS). Thank you for the mod, Petar.

The download link that you provided leads to the phoenix's site.
I've checked acer's site to download the bios, but there wasn't any bios to download.
You can try searchind for the bios your self, save it or dump it.

To save it boot to DOS and type the folowing comand:
phlash16 /BU bios.wph

Or dump it using HWDirect.
Install and open hwdirect, go to memory dump. Enter fff00000 without "h" and size 100000 without "h", press dump.
Right click into window, select all, right click again, copy. Paste as new file into winhex. (Open winhex and press Shift + insert key) Make sure ASCII-hex is selected. Save file and upload, please!

No errors found when compiled. There is two bios files within this zipfile, one is the original (A7349NMS.ORG) the other 7349ASUS.ROM is the one with ASUS for XP and Vista.

Make a bootable floppy/cd/usb stick copy the afud408.exe and the ROM file to it.

Please use the command :

Afud408.exe /i7349ASUS.ROM /pbnc /n

Please let us know if it worked or not.

Something got wrong.
ive got bad checksum.
Made an floppy with no device support only dos boot files with autoexec.bat (my flashing floppy)
addied the command and the files you gave. all flashing was ok ,rebooted and no post. Black screen and simulaneos beep every 1 sec. i think the checksum error is the new slic.
goot thing ami has a recovery. good one. rename the original bios file to amiboot.rom and copy to floppy it will automaticly recover from specified file. original one works fine. the moded with asus slic has checksum error. ill try to code one by myself. did once with my own comp. and it works fine by now.
ill giive ya the results. i wud ask you for another mod. maybe HP but i have no time. have to give this comp back tomorow.

Sorry, I cant mod this one, maybe someone else can.
I dont have the proper tools to decompress it.

Although, your bios seems to have slic, but I cant say if it is complete.
To check it, install and open ACPI Scope.
Go to File-->Load ACPI Information-->From BIOS
Save it as *.ats file and upload.

In the mean time you can try to activate with this cert:

No need to mod the BIOS, it's already modded. Just use the Medion certificate and you're good to go.

I decided to mod you bios. From what I've learned, your bios has 2 sensitive modules.
20. GV3 08A2Ch(34.54K) 027B1h(9.92K) AGESACPU.ROM
...
24. MINIT 0F56Fh(61.36K) 0F596h(61.40K) MEMINIT.BIN
Because of these, I had to minimize shifting of modules. On top of that your bios is packed with lots of stuff with remaining compress code space of 30A6h(12.16K) which is NOT enough for another ACPITBL.BIN of 040A1h(16.16K) in size. So I had to improvise. After editing the ACPITBL.BIN that already had an empty SLIC table, it grew a little larger. Because of this, I was forced to steal space from EPA logo. :p Thanks, it works fine. I've flashed it with ASUS Update, but I couldn't mark the "Clear CMOS checksum to load default BIOS settings." checkbox, because a DMI error, and I've to flash it without this chekbox marked. I don't know how affect that, but the BIOS is flashed, and Vista is activated.

Four days ago I requested a mod for the Gigabyte GA-EP45-DQ7 bios and got no replies. Now there is a new version out and here is my updated request.

I tried to mod it by myself but was not successful. The BBmarker BBpubkey and the ISA (ISA2, ISA3) method don't show any SLIC info in Everest. Maybe a pro can fix this.

Ok, I flashed the bios and it almost works. I can enter bios and change settings but when it's supposed to start loading windows the computer freezes. Only resetting or shutting down works, though it did kill my system completely eventually.. wouldn't start up at all. Good thing this board has dualbios so it eventually fixed itself by flashing the bios it shipped with.

With the newest vanilla bios F7B (http://europe.giga-byte.com/FileList/BIOS/motherboard_bios_ga-ep45-ds3p_f7b.exe) everything works and I was able to install vista with the 30day trial time. Hope you can fix the bios :)

Have you checked to see if there are some jumper settings that prevents the flash.

If that doesn't works try flashing the modded bios using the recovery procedure for AMI bios:

Hello Flagmax, Fzeven, and other great modders
Finally... after I replaced my Mobo due to a bad bios from other forum, I tried flashing using the above. When I got to windows boot manager, I receive this error

Status: 0xc0140019
Info: Windows failed to load because the ACPI firmware (BIOS) RSDP table is invalid.

I flashed using q-flash from the motherboard itself, I cannot flash using the flash895.exe ( bios flash protected ). Is there any solution to this problem? :) Thanks

Petar, there are no jumpers preventing the flash. As I mentioned, it will flash with a Biostar Bios, not with our activation Bios's.

Will not load using AMI recovery procedure.

I can see that the mod has a deferent checksum, but I dont know which byte is used to checnge the checksum of the bios.

Have you tryed to flash the mod with an biostar DOS flash utility ?

If anyone alse knows how to change the bios checksum or how to flash, it will be apritiated...:D
