Frank,

You bios was a little more confusing for me. There was two bios (wph) files and I wasn't sure what that was all about. I've uploaded your bios to:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=EF47JG7G

Give it a test out. I'm thinking it might not work because I really didn't edit it that much. I've added the slic table but didn't put it into any of your bios files (which I did for mine). I'm not totatlly sure if that needs to be done or not. If so i'm kinda stumped as to where to put it. I might have an idea but don't have time to try it now. I've basically followed the instructions from this site so I don't think that you'll have any problems with it. As always be prepared to do a bios recovery (another sticky in this thread(you should have the pheonix bios)) and remember where your backup is (should be C:\W309BF54\bios.bak).

Ok Audiophile,

well i will try with you mod tomorrow because i need an usb floppy because my hp laptop is broken already, i will make the recovery and i will try your bios. I have been reading that modding HP laptops bios it's very hard but let's see what happens. If anybody knows about this and knows about modding hp laptop bios there is the unmodded bios to try.

thank you buddies,

For your bios I did pretty much exactly the same thing as I did in my laptop bios which was pretty easy to modify. The only thing I didn't do was place the slic info into a part of your bios. I did put the slic file into your bios. When I was working on my laptop I had the slic info in my bios but not the silc file. Vista didn't activate until I put the slic file in. Lets just hope that all that needs to be done. I don't know if you done this already but you still need the hp cert which I didn't provide. If you need it I can give it to you but that's really easy to find. It took me three times before I got my modded bios to work so this might be trial and error. Every time I tried it nothing bad happened to my laptop so there shouldn't be any problems. Please let me know how it goes.

When I have time in the next few days i'll look at other hp bios's that were modded to see if I can get any ideas for you.

Frank:cool:

Not sure what you mean I just tried it and the link seems to be fine. One thing I noticed in your bios was that it said your processor was a k7. Is that fast enough for vista? Isn't that only a single core? One thing, if it doesn't work then I have to map the slic info in your bios but i'm not sure where to put it. My bios already had a spot for it marked slic but it had all 00's. All I had to do was fill in the 00's with the proper data and add the slic file. You bios doesn't have anything regarding silc nor do I see any space to put it. Your bios file is about half the size of mine. I'm not sure if there's room to add it in. I'd have to brush up on how I modded my desktop because that had the same situation. I had to manually put slic in an empty spot.

When I have time in the next few days i'll look at other hp bios's that were modded to see if I can get any ideas for you.

Hehe, well yesterday i decided to install vista sp1 because i thought it would work and when i installed the certificate i found that it was asking for the activation yet, so i got problems. Then i tried to moddify by myself today and i broke it, so tomorrow i'm going to put the usb floppy to recover it and put the bios you uploaded, but i was thinking same as you about the slic file. Tomorrow i'm going to do it and if it doesn't work i will let you know. Vista worked amazing, i thought it was going to work slow but it worked nice dude. It's a TL-34 just 1.8GHZ, 1GB DDR. Someone gave it to me so... it's perfect to use it like a desktop because it's has an 17" display. My official pc it's the TX2120 tablet pc with the Turion TL-64 Gold Edition, 4GB DDR2 and 250HDD. Really COOL.

Thank's a lot buddy

Here is an alternate method SLIC = ASUS

http://rapidshare.com/files/118708904/A7V8X-LA.zip.html

Vista Successfully Activated with the alternative method above!!!

Thanks!!

Here's what I had to do to get it to work:

1. No matter what I did or how many different command permutations I entered, the stupid oem bios on this thing would NOT flash from DOS (see past posts for error messages.
Sooooo Step 1: DL Winflash (Gasp!....I know, I know) here:http://www.dfi.com.tw/Upload/Driver/WinFlash-875Inf.zip

2. DL and save above BIOS. unzip and change file extension to .bin

3. Run winflash, check all options on the upper left of the screen except "Load cmos default."
Select "File," "Update BIOS," find your bios file, select "Update BIOS" again on the dialog box that appears. Done

Note: I only used winflash because I was getting f**king desperate to get this to work (out of vista activation time and don't have time in life right now to reinstall). ALWAYS flash from DOS.

BigErn,

Big thanks! Curious, what method did you use to insert slic into the above "alternate method" bios. I tried using cbrom and adding the slic MANY different ways with no luck. What did you do? Thanks again!!

Big thanks! Curious, what method did you use to insert slic into the above "alternate method" bios. I tried using cbrom and adding the slic MANY different ways with no luck. What did you do? Thanks again!!

Yes i do plan to flash the mod on it. SLIC? You will have to update me on these. I understand i have the board and i need to try it myself. I have the utilities to do a hot flash but i dont have a floppy drive. I flash usually from the abit flashmenu and has worked on a few computers. I just want to be able to manually adjust vcore and fsb in increments. When it was running i dont think i could raise vcore, and the fsb was in 33mhz steps. I have been able to hotflash sometimes using my nf7. Yes im a newb to modded bios's as i have never requested one myself i usually use tictacs modded bios but unable to find such for this board. Dont worry about it i will try to use the one already listed the SLIC. Im pretty sure this bios chip will work but the power went out in the middle of a previous flash a few years ago.

Asus Striker Extreme bios

I tried the first mod and flashed from floppy using latest awdflash
without any parameters.
After flashing the machine totally freezed. I removed the bios backup battery for a minute and restarted. Computer started but the bios screen warned about checksum error. I loaded bios defaults and now it seems to working fine. No brobs with overclocking.
Have somebody tested the second mod?
Great, enjoy :)

This is an AMI bios. Change the extension .BSP to .ROM and use the AMI automatic super static tool to mod it then you should be good to go.

Disclaimer: This is only a suggestion and flash at your own risk as it could potentially brick your computer.

EDIT: I guess you figured out that it was an AMI bios

Try this SLIC = Dell

http://rapidshare.com/files/119458828/motherboard_bios_ga-965p-ds3p_f6g_beta.exe.html

This one works, however the resume from S3 standby issue occurs and it becomes deactivated.

Instead I have used the ISA-GA_SP1.BIN file located in the following thread.

http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showthread.php?t=1060

It details the method to inject this into the original BIOS and appears to work for most Gigabyte boards.

Thanks for your efforts.

Extract the archive, open cmd and navigate to the folder with extracted files.
http://rapidshare.com/files/119812712/winflash.rar
Run the AG3.bat file, and the flashing should begin.
Before flashing turn off all programs, mostly security programs, like antivirus e.c.t.

The @larat's *.BIO file that you flashed with is in fact the original bios extracted from his board, not a modded one.

Unless you get hold of the original bios there is no way to fix the problem.

Thanks.

Here is my last feedback on this:

I used the Modded bios by China4ever which is modded before and it works.

For Aspire Acer 3620 & Travel Mate 2420 Laptop.

This Modded Bios is done by China4ever, it only works if you flash in DOS.

Update the BIOS under DOS:
1. Plug in the AC adapter.
2. Boot to pure DOS.
3. It is better not to load HIMEM.sys (bypass CONFIG.sys).
4. To flash the BIOS by Phoenix flash utility, use ".wph" ROM file
to update the BIOS via the following command: AG1A106.bat hit Enter

That's all. Restart your Laptop and check it.

The bios link you provided contains an executable file. It appears to me that the bios image is unextractable from this executable file. You'll probably get a better response if you could upload a backup image of your bios.

I've managed to extract the file using UniExtract.
But all that I found inside was a QBIOS Flash installer.
There were also some dll's which I think are responsable for the flashing procedure, and only flashing the parts that are needed to be updated.

To extract your bios do the folowing:
Open HWDirect and go to "Memory Dump".
In the Adress box enter FFF00000
In the Size box enter 100000
press Dump.

Right click into window, select all, right click again, copy. Paste as new file into winhex. (Open winhex and press Shift + insert key) Make sure ASCII-hex is selected. Save file and upload, please!
To get Hwdirect to run under 64 bit, press F8 at startup and disable driver enforcement. This will last for one session only and allows Hwdirect to run.

Flash from pure DOS.
Create bootable USB, Floppy or CD/DWD.
Copy flash.bat, phlash16.exe and s41.wph to the bootable media.
Flash like this:
phlash16 s41.wph /x /s

or run flash.bat

Note. Flash at your own risk, sometimes a flash can go wrong even when flashed with the same working bios.

I tried the AMI Automatic Super Static and it did not work on my board, no system boot or anything, and I could not get the BIOS recovery options to work on it, good thing its new, its being RMA'd. when I do flash, since this is my 1st AMI bios board I have ever owned, do I just program the system area or do I reprogram the boot block as well?

Thanks

I am so sorry to hear that. Please accept my apology as, if I were in your shoes, I would be devastated. Thank God you were able to RMA it.

Your bios did not have an FC module so I tested it with the AMI automatic super static tool v.20080419 and i got 2 green lights so I figured it was good to go. Sorry it didn't work out.

I must commend you on your bravery as you are willing try again. Maybe you can try to mod it manually or have someone mod it manually for you. As for the question about flashing the boot block--I do not know. I would like to know the answer to that as well. Sorry again.

After successful (?) flash under XP, it is not booting up anymore. Any idea, how to recover is it is not touching even the esb floppy?

I've moded the same bios the same way as BigErnM did, but I was hesatateting to upload it, couse it flashes from windows.
Couple a days before I bricked a laptop that way, by flasing from widows.
The first mod that I did was intended to be flashed from DOS, but the requester asked me, if he can flash from windows.
So I aded the original files, including the manufacturers winflash utility, with its original batch script for the flash process.
And now when I'm opening this thread I'm even ashemaed of my self.
Maybe if I was more persistant to convince the requester to flash from DOS, everything would have went well.

Have you tryed to recover using this guide...:
http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showthread.php?t=2105

So conlusion to this is...always flash from DOS, mostly at Phoenix bioses.

how do i recovery it?
right now, i'm trying from http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showthread.php?t=2105
there're recovery solution in that thread..

but it's still not working!
coz i only have usb stick.

i can't boot anything..
everything's black on my screen

pls help me here....

@bibia can you try this to recover..

1. Create the Phoenix Crisis Recovery Floppy, from this thread:
http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showthread.php?t=2105 (http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showthread.php?t=2105)
use metod 2, and if nothing happens, try to type autoexec.bat
2: Take the battery and the power cord out of the laptop.
3: Hold in Fn+Esc, take in the power cord and then press the power button. The laptop is going to flash the LEDs a bit, and then be silent, and then turn on again after about two to three seconds.
4: The trick is to first press Fn+Esc and see the first flash, then let go and then press Fn+Esc (and hold) again before (or as) the machine turns itself on again. If you do this right, the machine will begin to read from the USB diskette drive.
