If my friend has a TOSHIBA OEM laptop that came with XP MCE (he recently updated it with this bios (http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showpost.php?p=24749&postcount=8014))

I was wondering if it was still necessary for him to mod his bios, could he just not use a TOSHIBA certificate and Key on his Vista unattended DVD and it will see that it is a toshiba and be activated?

Does he really need to use a modded bios?

TIA
Rick

If the Toshiba SLIC is active he can just import the certificate and use the product key.

Hello,

I am desparate to get my new WLAN card to work. Could someone mod the latest BIOS to work? I found instructions here http://www.rechner.org/b1800_bios.html but I am unable to find the Intel hex code in the new bios. The HP whitelist apparently allows only two cards. I want to keep the Broadcom WLAN but replace the Intel with my new card: PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_0023&SUBSYS_0087106B . If there is a better/easier way then great. Is there a generic Quanta bios? Any help is appreciated.

My config:
HP V2300(AMD)
Mainboard: Quanta 3097_47.10
Chipset: RS480/SB400 (ATI)
Current BIOS: HP F.27(08/30/06)
Link to HP BIOS: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp33501-34000/sp33749.exe

Thanks. Paul.

That is difficult to say without a acpiscope dump.
It looks that there is a incomplete slic, but there can be some code that complete the slic table, the RSDT table isn't right either.
I think there is only a very small chance that it can activate with out some kind of bios mod.
But beware that it might get bricked with a modded bios.

Should i spend my money in this model? (because there is a store that have a very good price on this notebook)

Thanks Fzeven for your answer, but i have seen that HP sell this model with windows Xp or windows vista home in diferent stores.

Thanks Fzeven for your answer, but i have seen that HP sell this model with windows Xp or windows vista home in diferent stores.

I got a HP that came with premium, it is preactivated and the slic is not complete.
So if I want to use a different version I have to mod it also.
Only a acpiscope dump can say if it is complete or not.

(Asus A6KM)

When You mod the bios by yourself with "AMI_SLIC3_20080419" there is a little difference with the one that Fzeven made

at 7FF50
62BAAF2D (AMI_SLIC3_20080419 value)
666A6C21 (fzeven value)

at 7FFE9
08042519030100EAAAFF00F030342F32352F303800FC00 (AMI_SLIC3_20080419 value)
07123115573800EAAAFF00F031322F33312F303700FC00 (fzeven value)

Can someone explain why this happens

You need the certificate and a slp2.0 key.
You can try to remove the softmod with voatktools.
Here you find some more info: http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showpost.php?p=10784&postcount=3

Thanks for the reply, I have done the licensing stuff, but I don't seem to have the right ultimate key for a toshiba. I removed my hack with voatktools, and tried using the keys that are knocking around for asus. Now it says "3day till automatic activation. Activate windows now". Anyone know where I can get an ultimate key for Toshiba, or do I just press activate now?

I have a zip file called TOSHIBA_Satellite P100_BD13C37_Slic.rar which has the TOSHIBA4.XRM-MS I used in it and a file called BD13C37_SLIC.WPH in it...what is this 2nd file for, as I havent used it for anything...Sorry again, I have searched the forum but had no luck

TIA

In regards to this mod, am I able to get the Windows XP SLP1.0 ASUS_FLASH integrated into it aswell? I have previously modded this bios and changed the BIOS Message using MODBIN6 to ASUS_FLASH which did activate XP..

but for some reason messed with my memory (I have 2x1gb dual channel config) and when I flash with the SLP 1.0 integrated, BIOS reports I have 0mb memory installed, and XP runs soooo slow. And then I flash back to the unmodded and it reports 2Gb dual channel..

Am I doing something wrong? Could you take a look at it for me please?
As I really want both the SLP 1.0 and 2.0 info in there..

Did you cleared you cmos?

Whenever I did the mod, I didnt have to clear the CMOS - just had the memory detection error where nothing got detected.

Did you want me to reflash it again, but instead of recovering, do a CMOS clear?

Sometimes it helps to clear the cmos.
You can switch a option with awdflash I think it's /cc

If you are using a program for flashing on Windows which halts upon a
checksum error, you want to retry with the "check the checksum" option off
because the binary file has been modified and so the checksum cannot be
matched.
Or if your program's not got the option disablable though it's got an
"officious" feature like that, you can run a DOS program instead, with a
switch of ignoring checksum errors.

Hi guys, thanks for your replys.....

"I don't seem to have the right ultimate key for a toshiba"
You can use any makers ultimate key, it will work.

This is the modded bios. More info on bios mod and how to flash, here:

Hi, but I already flashed it with a bios posted here...
Try this SLIC = Toshiba
You should be able to unzip this one.

Hi guys, thanks for your replys.....

Hi, but I already flashed it with a bios posted here...

and used the asus ultimate key, it said something about 3 days to activate....activate now.

I looked at the thread you recommended, but I can't see how to flash a .WHP file....should I stick with the file BigErnM posted and click activate now,or try and flash this? What tool do I need to flash it

TIA
That bios has been confirmed working, you can read the additional instructions about flashing it in the SLIC tested thread. If you flashed that BIOS correctly an SLIC table should be present in Everest. If it is then you can just import the Toshiba OEM certificate and the ASUS Ultimate key should work since it is the same for all.

Sorry to be a pain, it still doesn't work. The certificate I have is called TOSHIBA4.XRM-MS, is this the right one? I tried flashing it again, but it won't let me as it ( rightly) says I have the same version on, and won't let me flash it again. I put the TOSHIBA4.XRM-MS in the root of c: and from a cmd shell do "slmgr.vbs -ilc c:\ TOSHIBA4.XRM-MS"
after a while it comes back with success, then I do slmgr.vbs -ipk xxxxx-xxxxx-xx2cc and it comes back all ok. So then I reboot and it comes back with 2 days to activate, and says Not genuine on the desktop. If I do bios emulation of cause, everything ids fine with say asus files..

thanks

You will need a different certificate. The one you need is just Toshiba.XRM-MS. Here it is:

I thought you tried to activate;), most of the times the slp1.0 doesn't shows up in Everest unlike the slp2.0.:o
If you can make a memory dump with hwdirect adress F0000 size FFFF & upload then I can check if it sits in the right range.
Otherwise install XP & try to activate.

Thanks. Paul.
I powered through the instructions and figured it out. I am now using my new card and it rocks. If anyone has the same laptop as me and wants the modded BIOS for this card I would be more than happy to send it to you...or if someone here wants to host it? I'm pretty sure it is a generic or rebadged IBM card. It is the dual band Atheros with AR5416 chip or AR5008AP-3NX.

Are you importing the ACER certificate and using an ACER product key? Also be sure there are no softmods present on your system by checking with VOATKtools.

I import the ACER certificate and install ACER product key already.
But window it's not activate

first I add >>>> slmgr -ilc Acer.xrm-ms

and second I add >>>> slmgr -ipk 6f2d7-2pcg6-yqqtb-fwk9v-932cc

Many thanks,

There is always a risk to brick it even with unmodded one's.
The risk is higher with modded one's.
A Crisis disk recovery is the only option, if that doesn't work it is back to the shop.

It is downloaded more than 10 times, most of the time the feedback is immediate when a mod is bad.
Are there any more that have bricked it?
Maby you had a bad flash, I'll take the mod off line for the time beiing .

I'm going to see if I can RMA it for repair. I think that if it had NOT programmed the boot block I should have been able to undo it. I'm not sure as I am pretty new at this. The DOS flash tool won't work under Vista CMD window so I had to use the windows programming tool. Even though that is not the best idea, it was the only one I had as my HTPC is not equipped with a floppy drive. I couldn't find a good USB boot image either. Perhaps someone that did have a successful flash can post somewhere how they did it and if it all worked well.....? thanks!

You can try to recover.

1. Create a bootable floppydisk.
2. Copy "AMIFLASH" to floppydisk.
3. Create a textfile with "A:\AMIFLASH.EXE AMIBOOT.ROM /P /B /N /C /R" as content.
4. Save created textfile as "AUTOEXEC.BAT" to floppydisk.
5. Copy disered biosfile to floppydisk, rename it as "AMIBOOT.ROM".
6. Cold start the computer you want to flash, and press "ctrl+home" keys simultaneously.

Ok, try this SLIC = Toshiba, Here are the comments from the SLICs tested thread, I would try to follow a similar flashing procedure:

This bios is modded the same way as the A100 model, but I looked back and this one is a little different than the mod Fzeven did earlier that bricked your unit, but not by a lot, so caution is advised. It might even be a good idea to use phlash16 to flash in DOS mode instead of the flasher program that comes with it, using this command: phlash16 /x /s /c /mode=3 /BBL bios.rom. Good luck.

Motherboard Manufacturer and Model : SONY VAIO VGN SZ3XP/C
- Bios revision: R0096N0
- Bios Type : PHOENIX
- Bios SLIC : SONY-VAIO
- Bios Link: http://support.vaio.sony.ch/download...1041231-UN.htm (you have to accept to download). The download is an exe file that can be easily extracted with winrar. The bios R0096N0.WPH is enclosed.

Many Thanks & Best regards

Try this, slic = Sony, appreciate feedback.

http://www.box.net/shared/m0rs2d68so

@fzeven
Ooops, did not work, here is the message displayed when trying to flash the BIOS. R0096N0_SLIC.WPH is either invalid or damaged. Bios Inage verification failed. Error Code -149

Shall i try to flash from dos boot, not too risky ??

FYI, i successfully activated a SOny VGN SZ5 with Bios R00112N0, this bios seems to have SOny Slic already in, as this model comes with vista. Perhpaps having a look at this bios would help you ? (SZ5 & 3 have same HW appart from the web cam model)

http://www.vaio-link.com/downloads/info/info.asp?site=voe_en_gb_cons&url=Downloads/PH/B/SYS/PHBSYS-01041232-UN.exe&ip=PHBSYS-01041232-UN.htm

How did you tried to flash it?

I used Winphlash enclosed on the archive file.

You can try phlash from DOS.

Sorry Fzeven, bad new :(, The laptop is partly bricked...

Could not use plash on DOS mode (Interface signature not found error)
Boot in XP Sp2
Then i uncompressed the original R0096N0 Sony folder.
Replaced the original BIOS by the slic one, launched WBFLASH.exe, as WinPhlash report incorrect bios checksum (as well with orginal bios ).

Update when well no problem.
On restart BLUE SCREEN on booting XP.
Tried to reinstall XP with CD
i have the following Message (An unexpected error occurend at line 1733 in d:\xpsprtm\base\boot\setup\arcdisp.c)

When checking Msf*t KB, it indicates RAM corruption.

Tried also to install with VISTA CD, hangs just before displaying graphics.
Clear CMOS did not solve the problem.
I guess BIOS is partly corrupted and prevent me to boot any GUI interface. only dos works

I can still boot on dos, so i guess i need to find a way to flash back original R0096N0 bios from dos. The phlash release i use did not allow it (phlash 16 14).
In any case trying to install an OS or boot from Bart's PE give same blue error

Any clue to avoid the interface signature not found error , and force bios dos update ?

Did you try flashing with phlash16? and were you using Toshiba.XRM-MS and not Toshiba1, Toshiba2 ... etc? If you did here are alternate methods SLIC = Toshiba

Mod1

Mod2
http://rapidshare.com/files/111153178/4A70150.exe.html

yes i used phlash16 from dos, that all went fine...after reboot, nada.
i should have said it bricked the unit instead of "no go" !

Did you still try and activate?, the SLIC will look the same but it may still activate with those mods.

If you already tried to activate try this SLIC = ACER

http://rapidshare.com/files/111145728/1.20.zip.html

and this alternate method SLIC = ACER

This picture shown in procedure to add cert and install product key.

Important: After flash go to bios setup, load setup defaults, make sure LAN is activated, at bootoptions set LAN as first boot device.

Boot from Lan? Is it really necessary? I have only Boot from Lan in BIOS setbox, and it is not in Bootoptions (there are boot from: floppy, Harddisk etc.).
Ok, I flashed the bios and resetted it to defaults and put the "Boot from Lan" on and Booted the machine. It booted XP up normally, no blue screen and XP is now working normally. I haven't tried tried Vista yet, but I have it. However my media is version NO sp1, can I use it, or is it necessary to use version SP1?
I will try it maybe soon.

more: I noticed that I can't find SLIC with Everest-software (Motherboard-ACPI)!

Updated Bios, brief stall, seemed to complete, restarted and board is dead, will not post. Any suggestions? What is the best way to flash this board?

The best way to flash is under DOS with afudos.
Try a bios recovery.

1. Create a bootble floppydisk.
2. Copy "afudos" to floppydisk.
3. Create a textfile with "A:\afudos /IAMIBOOT.ROM /P /B /N /C /R" as content.
4. Save created textfile as "AUTOEXEC.BAT" to floppydisk.
5. Copy disered biosfile to floppydisk, rename it as "AMIBOOT.ROM".
6. Cold start the computer you want to flash, and press "ctrl+home" keys simultaneously.

Hi,

I've load the BIOS file in AsusUpdate utility and it refused to update the BIOS since the model name is different, if the DOS version of the update utility is working (haven't try it yet) will it be safe to force the update?

Thanks again
Sorry, your right.
The P5B-MX /WiFi is different as the P5B-MX

Is there someone who can make a mod for the P5B-MX (AMI)
