This one has been done before but I need the Dell SLIC as I'm try to install Windows Home Server.
- Motherboard Manufacturer and Model : ASUS A8N-VM CSM
- Bios revision: 1007
- Bios mod: SLP1.0 for Dell AND SLIC SLP2.0 for Dell
- Bios Link = http://dlsvr03.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/socket939/A8N-VMCSM/1007.zip
Thanks in advance

Thanks for the help guys, unfortunately neither of those two worked. WHS seems to be accepting the Dell bios and importing the oembios.bin etc. The key I have may be the problem, though others have reported it working on actual Dell machines.
Just to be sure would anyone mind doing another SLP1.0 mod with Hewlett-Packard.

Thanx
1- ftp://ftp.work.acer-euro.com/noteboo.../BIOS/BIOS.zip (install this original bios in your notebook)
2- Use a OEM key for vista Ultimate (32 and 64) they are the same key
3- Use a certificate from acer (acer.xrm-ms)
4- If you have already install a OEM key (done), if not install one for your version
5- Put your certificate from acer (acer.xrm-ms) for exemple in c:\
6- Open command prompt in administrator mode and write the commands
7- slmgr.vbs -ipk (OEM key)
8- slmgr.vbs -ilc c:\acer.xrm-ms
9- Vista activated forever

Not working I now have an expensive door stop! Any ideas?
Don't wish to make a lot of this but on compairing your BIOS with the original there seems to be a large area missing. In the original data starts at 00 in yours every thing up to 22821 is ff (255) from there on all looks the same was this deliberate?
I'm fairly sure the situation is recoverable (after your tip) just wondered about the BIOS changes you made.

I use PBE to edit the bios, PBE gave no errors at rebuilding you're bios.
But that isn't a guarantee thats all is oke.
The succes rate on phoenix bioses are lower then AMI or Award.
And the bios recovery is more difficult.

Otherwise you can try this.

Sorry for the late reply, FZEVEN...
Still wont activate. I will try though to flash using the crisis recovery disk technique (http://www.rechner.org/b1800.html) and hope it flashes successfully.
It appears it wont fully flash inside Windows because I noticed that during the 80th percent of the flash process it reboots already. It also wont flash in DOS using PHLASH16.exe
Thank you FZEVEN for the help. You've already done so much.
I will keep this board posted as soon as we get hold of a USB floppy drive and the flash succeeds :)

So as I can see there is some kind of slic in my BIOS, do I have to flash at all or I just need to apply the .XRM-MS ?
Second I`ve allso tried to load the moded bios you gave me with Phoenix BIOS Editor so I can check is the checksum=0, but I receve this error message:
Invalid ROM Lenght.
So my question is do I have to flash at all, and if I have to flash is this error going to be a problem ?

Strange the XSDT is a Dell entry, You can try to activate.
I think that doesn't gonna work but you can try before you're trying the modded one.

03-21-2008, 10:48 PM
First of all, I'd like to say hello! I've been lurking here for quite awhile and have been awaiting developments with SP1 before asking for help. I realize this might not be the best of timing, given the surge in threads concerning the impact of SP1, but here goes:
I have an Dell OEM installation from an ISO of Ultimate x64 that never required activation and has ran and updated great since 7/07 on my:
Motherboard Manufacturer and Model: Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe
BIOS revision: 1405
Bios Type: AMI
Original BIOS Link: http://dlsvr01.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/...eluxe/1405.zip
I gather I simply have a S/W crack and am worried about installing SP1. Is it plausible to mod my BIOS at this stage? Everest reports my OS as retail, yet shows a Product ID as OEM with a key code. Under "Product Activation (WPA)" it says "not required". The M$ validation check passes and I have all updates.
Considering the mixed results for people using various mods what would be my best course of action? Which modding scheme will work? I realize there are mod requests provided for this board already but it's unclear to me if they got by SP1 and/or which method is best for my install. Any help is appreciated!

Hi BigErnM
Method 1 did not work on my friend's M2N-SLI (identical to mine).... so we have two dead mainboards ready for being returned to ASUS :):):)
In the meantime, I flashed a Gigabyte M56S-S3 mainboard with the BIOS you kindly posted (good news: the mainboard remained alive): SLIC type is Sony, so I do not know how to activate Vista after flashing the modded bios.
Have I to use specific registration number and/or oem certificate? Where can I download them (I only have Asus Ultimate key and oem certificate)?

You might also want to try to flash both mods with the latest version of AWDflash.
Thanks again BigErnM:), anyways still won't flash with the included file which gives similar check sum error: 6C00H.
Anyhow I tried your sugestion and flashed both of your mods with awdflash.exe(v8.73), the first one was a nogo and just shows write fail, and the second mod went through even though there were one or two write fails (and it only programed about half of the blocks shown on the screen), and now I have a board that just sits there and beeps nonstop with a blank screen:(,so needless to say that I'll be taking it back for RMA tomorrow.
So hopefully I will ge getting back a brand new board tomorrow and that you might have a solution for me soon, thanks.

You must select the slic table to see the oem id & oem table id of the slic table.
Now you have to import the certificate & use a slp2.0 key.

There are two bios update's at Asrock.
1. update under windows
2. update under DOS
the one you're linked is the windows based, that i can't mod.
So i need the DOS based update.
