Looks like i messed the code which loads the ACPI tables ?! Btw i'm trying to use

But all this address calculation makes me crazy :)

Hi again, sorry about the late answer.
But it was a no go, didnt work. actually i broke the bios. (black screen no startup)
But with a crisis recovery disk, I managed to flash it again, first to orignal bios (worked). then again your modded bios (didnt work - froze on bios screen, each time).

Can it be done, you think.

By the way a zepto is in fact the same as compal notebooks
and my Znote 3415W is an fl92 if that helps.

I can say that this one doesnt work. I just tried and my PC died.
I flashed with ASUSUpdate, it told me the bios was correct and i could flash, so i did but it couldnt check the EEPROM.
After that i wanted to flash back but i couldnt start the program anymore, i had to reboot. So i did.

Now my pc goes on for 2 seconds, and shuts down again, and goes back on, this repeats constantly.

Does someone know what to do?
Please help! I want my PC back.

I tried removing the battery, also didnt work.

This was a BIOS upgrade for me from V1.4 so I did not have to do the asus licence bit again.

First have a look with Everest before you ask a remod!!
If the slic table is present a remod is not necessary.
It works with evanjohn00000, try some other keys for starters.
And keep in mind every flash could be the last if you encounter a bad mod or flash.

Your bios already comes with a compal SLIC, you can check in Everest to see if it shows up. Then you can try to activate with your regular bios. That will probably not work. I have inserted the ASUS SLIC into this BIOS which should be able to activate it. One of these 2 will work.

That's exactly happens when I try to flash my friend's Travelmate 2420 in DOS. I am positive though that I have the correct BIOS. Have you tried flashing in Windows by double clicking the .bat file inside the folder of the flash file from Acer and replace the .ROM file with that modded by FZEVEN or China4ever. Just make sure that your antivirus is NOT running.

Do you see similar SLIC as mine? Thanks!

I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 530 with an Intel Q6600 Quad-core processor, 2.4ghz 1033FSB. I would have built it myself if the thing wasn't so dirt cheap. Anyway, as I'm sure everyone knows Dell completely locks their BIOS. I would love to overclock this thing and can't do so unless the BIOS gets modded. Is this possible? Apparently, the BIOS has limited my RAM speed as well. I'm terrified of doing this myself for I'm aware of how a faulty BIOS can completely brick a motherboard.

Okay, I have had a hell of a time with my computer lately. I had a problem that was eventually determined to be a bad stick of RAM. I bought a new board (the ga-ep35-ds3r). With this particular modded BIOS, I couldn't get any drives to boot to install Vista. I tried 3 different DVD-ROM drives and a hard drive, and none of them would boot.

However, when I flashed it with the BIOS in post #5637 which has the Dell SLIC, it worked fine and Vista activated.

So, I can confirm that the BIOS with the Dell SLIC worked. However, given the problems I had, the BIOS with the ASUS SLIC may still work; just not for me.

First have a look with Everest before you ask a remod!!
If the slic table is present a remod is not necessary.
It works with evanjohn00000, try some other keys for starters.
And keep in mind every flash could be the last if you encounter a bad mod or flash.

Have you tried to flash it like this: Phlash16 / x / s / mode = 3 bios.rom
Otherwise you can try this.

I tried the bios provided in the url above on my crosshair mobo, but vista was not activated. It says "3 days left before activation"
When I ran Everest to check the ACPI table both SLIC & RSDT showed the OEMID as "_ASUS_No" instead of "_ASUS_" and the OEM TABLE ID field was missing instead of showing it as "Notebook" :confused:
Please help correct this mod cause I am unable to downgrade my bios to previous version:(

After looking into the acidrock's problem I found that it was me who did not install the v1.6 BIOS correctly (I was still running v1.4).:confused:

The mod for the MSI K9AGM2 v1.6 does NOT activate vista.

I used MMTool to check the BIOS and found the same problem encountered by skinnydude a while back.

Basically the latest BIOSes from MSI have a RomHole image, which appears to take up address loctaion of the SLIC table (0000FFF0h)(don't ask me for any further info as I'm no expert):confused:

I opened V1.5 modded BIOS in MMTool and extracted the RomHole image (modded by skinnydude), I then opened the V1.6 original BIOS and replaced its RomHole image with the saved image from V1.5, and saved the BIOS.

VISTA SP1 NOW ACTIVATED:D

I was beginning to think it would never work, until I saw that thread. I used the Phoenix BIOS editor 2.2.0.1
WinHex 14.8 SR-1

I just opened your bios with the bios editor and then using WINHEX went to the BIOS editor temp directory and overwrote the inactive COMPAL SLIC in ACPI8.ROM with an ASUS SLIC and then changed the RSDT and XSDT values in BIOSCOD1.ROM with the ASUS OEM TABLE and TABLEID. Then I went back to the BIOS editor and saved the ROM. You have to change a value and then change it back to enable the save function.

yeah, i thought the paradox won´t collide with the scripting host. Vista still has version 5.7, might have to find a way to pull the plug on that one and reinstall (the host). Unfortunately it seems to be "welded" into the system quite deeply..

BigErnM: we are very unlucky!!! I managed to recover original 601 BIOS with a boot floppy... but when I flashed your new modded bios (the very first one in previous list) my PC could not boot. Now the screen remains black when I switch on the PC and I cannot boot from floppy, HD and/or CDROM.

I think one of the last 3 mods will work because the modules are all kept in the same relative position in those mods and that might be one of the problems with the prior mods. I deleted all links to the nonfunctioning bioses. Did you try step 3 in the BIOS recovery post?

I managed to recover original (not-modded) 601 bios using the procedure described in step 3: that procedure did not work after flashing the first mod of your last post.
I'll keep you informed about RMA procedure (I hope Asus support will accept it)

Hi Roman that bios works great vista activated,woooooooooo.I used awdflash1.20 for my motherboard from asus.Flashed using the following parameters awdflash 0901.bin /py/sn/cc/cd/cp/f/cks/r.when i flashed ure modded bios in the actual flasher progress bar the blocks turn whitw to indicate writing ok.They all turned white bar the last 8 or so that stayed blue,indicating no change.Normally they all turn white.So i flashed again using same command it didnt flash the last 8 blocks or so.So i did it again and the last time it flashed all blocks white,which is correct.Im wondering how come it didnt flash all the blocks on the first 2 occasions?

But it seems, that there ist something wrong with the bios...
- flashed OK
- Vista booted OK
- Vista is activated
but...

With EVERY reboot (doesn't matter how) the mainboard goes through a hard reset... powers off and comes back... and there is also an issue combined with this... half of the reboots leading into a comlete clear of the bios settings.

Maybe it is an isse with the retail bios, but nothing was reported about that by now.

BIOS Type: AMI
BIOS Revision: P2.20

SLP1.0 & SLP2.0: ACER
Now,I use WindowsVista and I have Bios moded Ver.P2.20 SLIC : ACER.It's activete.
But,Vista is not work for my game.I want to do Dual OS.Vista+XP.
Please mod bios for me too.Vista& XP in1 OEM bios (2 in 1)

But it seems, that there ist something wrong with the bios...
- flashed OK
- Vista booted OK
- Vista is activated
but...

With EVERY reboot (doesn't matter how) the mainboard goes through a hard reset... powers off and comes back... and there is also an issue combined with this... half of the reboots leading into a comlete clear of the bios settings.

Maybe it is an isse with the retail bios, but nothing was reported about that by now.

You have to flash that BIOS with AFUDOS using the following command string:

Afudos /ixxxx.rom /pbnc /n

If you do not wish to do it that way you can try these alternate methods SLIC = ASUS which you can flash normally.

Sorry I can't be more help. Let me know if you find a solution. If worse comes to worse a fresh install may work, you might try one in a virtual machine or a separate partition. Good luck. I deleted my previous posts because they didn't work for you and to reduce thread clutter.
