Firstly, THANK YOU! These forums and the posters here are amazing.
Secondly, I have a supposedly-modded BIOS found on another site, link here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/27646737/A8R-MVP-ASUS-0602_SLIC.ZIP.html
...and I have flashed my board with it successfully. However, when I install V*sta Ult*mate 64-bit, I have the following problems:
1) the bootup takes no less than 10 full minutes.
2) no activation after applying the OEM certificate (I used the corresponding ASUS activation key during install also).
So, would someone please look at this BIOS to confirm that it was modded correctly?
Any tips would be appreciated, too, if you wouldn't mind sending me a PM.

I know there was a problem with the 0904 BIOS bricking ASUS Crosshair boards (I got mine back from RMA a few weeks ago and do not want to brick it again) so just wondering which BIOS is CONFIRMED working in an ASUS Crosshair! I've seen the 0802 and 0804 but are they both 100% working? I've also seen another 0904 BIOS (besides the one that bricked my baord) but not sure if that is working 100% either?
My board is Revision 1.04G with the Soldered BIOS chip, so anyone with this board can confirm which BIOS is working please!
Also, user crosshair and InnerD both activated their Vista installs using the 0904 BIOS from here: http://www.box.net/shared/58os8xdpnd
What I would like to know from those users (and other users who have successfully flased a BIOS and activated Vista) is:
1. Which revision board did you have, 1.04G?
2. Which BIOS was originally flashed in.
3. Is your BIOS chip soldered in.
4. Which version of Vista did you install and what OEM files/serial did you use?
If I can find some common criteria that is working it would help :)
BTW, Merry Christmas/Happy New Year!
Problem Solved!
Took a risk and flashed the 0804 BIOS from this post: http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showpost.php?p=10636&postcount=8366 luckily it's OK and my system booted OK! Just as a precaution I reset the BIOS to defaults before flashing, I read this somewhere on ASUS's site.
Made an ASUS OEM Vista Ultimate DVD from a Retail DVD and Vista installed and Activated with the 0804 BIOS :)
Thanks to China4Ever for the BIOS mod.

Hi China4ever, I have a couple of questions for you please,
I have a Gigabyte P35C-DS3R rev 2.0
I notice you have modded recently a F9 version of the bios for dattad
I do not have vista installed yet as im still building the pc.
I have a copy of dell oem vista ultimate which i have edited and wish to ask you if what i have done is correct:
I have changed the certificate located Sources/$OEM$/$$/SYSTEM32/OEM/ to the ASUS.XRM-MS cert i found on this forum
I have also changed the Sources/PID to asus vista ultimate key also found on this forum
A file located Sources/$OEM$/$$/DELL_VERSION i have renamed this ASUS_VERSION
Can you please tell me if this is everything i need to do to the image please? will this install ok?
If that is ok do i just use the moded bios you provided in earlier post after installing my edited image of vista? then everything will be activated?
or am i missing something?
Your help is much appreciated

Kyle there is also a PID.txt in boot.wim you would need to mount that image and edit the number there also, thats why its easier just to use RTM version.
either that you could request a bios modded for Dell.

Don't know if this is a possibility. Since you have worked so hard on all these modifications, would there be a way of creating one large file to download them all. I plan on making upgrades in the future and may purchase a few of these boards and would like to have them archived. I my reasoning is that you never know when a website will go down and 5 months from now, I might not be able to find these things. Just a suggestion. All your hard work is much appreciated.
Also, Still need the M2N32-SLI 1503 bios SLIC for Dell.

About your suggestion:
IMO it's not a good idea. It would lead to a too much commercial way.
Everyone is invited to learn about and to request for his mod he want to try.
That should be all.
The work I do is for all who are interested in. The work on it makes a lot of fun, the product, the modified bios is not the point. It's the modifying itself. A temporary offer of a mod is O.K.
It doesn't hurt me if the bios will be erased. (I'm erasing every mod after a short time from HDD)
It would be no matter (to me), if all the sites are going down. My mods I've done so far I've uploaded temporary. Most of the links are already expired.
And we don't know what would be after the release of SP1 final. Maybe most of the mods are disabled after.
I don't want to cause a sensation. MEGAPACK OF OEM BIOS or something like that.
You personally need one bios per PC only, why to download a large file? The official OEM are upgrading their bios as well, so the file is outdated after some month.
My opinion......;)

Hi Fzeven,
The BIOS flashed no problem (though I renamed it to the original) but their is no SLIC table.

Of course the mobo isn't bricked just no SLIC table.

I have an EVGA 630i board which I've tried to mod the original NF77V16 bios, but failed following this (http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/02/17/windows-vista-oem-activation-crack-by-patching-slic-into-motherboard-bios/all-comments/#comments) guide.
It has RSDTFACPDSDTAPICHPETWDRTMCFGFACS. I tried replacing each HPET, WDRT, and MCFG, with SLIC in the ORIGINAL.BIN, but each time MODBIN exits when I go to save the change back into the original bios. Is that normal? MODBIN also exits then the modded bios is opened, which looks not good to me.
Anyway, I finish the bios mod as in the guide - it flashes successfully to the board, and the board boots, but I get a bios checksum error 51. Any ideas?
Can someone mod this bios?:

Hi Fzeven,
Wow, this one didn't go so well.
The BIOS installed no problems but whenever it got to the point of booting off the hard drive, white/greyish blank screen and halting. I tried varying configurations in BIOS settings but same thing every time. I was able to acess the BIOS and flash it back to the original. Board works again.
Oh well, I guess it can live as an XP machine.
Thank you for trying though and Best Wishes,

Wow, that was quick, thanks.
Bios flashes but shows "checksum error - defaults loaded". Winflash shows checksum 7551 for the original bios and this one shows 3FE3. Is that the checksum it's looking at? I can flash back to original with no problem from ERD Commander 2005. Thanks! :)

China4Ever, thank you. Unfortunately this one also gives "CMOS checksum error - Defaults loaded". This one has checksum 6B05. Do you know a way to make it 7551? Or maybe there's some way around the different checksums. Well, either way without you guys and this thread, I don't have a chance to make it work, so thank you for the effort. :)

Works but this bios is totally fucked up...
It seems like hey broke the Qfan feature down completly! Even when I have 86 degrees on cpu the fan is on 30%! No matter what I choose (High performance, Silence, Balanced)!
What is more I CANNOT roll back to 0301! Using the flasher built-into the bios it says "A newer relase of the bios is already installed". I also tried Asus Live update under windows and got the same result. Finally I tried aflash under dos and got message "Cannot find a bios hook", or sth like this. Does anybody know how can I reflash it to the previous relase?! Is it possible to be done by hot flash? I so, how exactly?

China4Ever, thanks. I tried this exactly: flash with your bios, clear cmos (pull plug, set cmos jumper, wait 10 minutes), boot, hit DEL to enter bios (before checksum error comes), and then load fail-safe defaults. On reboot, I still get the same checksum error and F1 and DEL keys are frozen. I don't think it's saving any changes to the bios. Anything else to try? :(. Where does this checksum error come from? Thanks for your help! :)

Thank you! :)
I think it's a flasher issue. I suggest you to flash first my bios, then do a clear cmos and then setting bios according to your configuration. Save it and boot Windows, as that bios is an Award one and it works like any other award bios.
Hi again China4Ever. I tried all kinds of different methods to flash and reset the CMOS hoping to get around the checksum error, but the error is always there.
I found BIOS Info Tool v1.4 to compare the checksums between the original and your modded bios. I attached the two output files and created a difference file of the two. Should LOGO Bitmap have the same checksum? Thanks for looking. :)

Is it really hard to mod a Dell bios (for example, Dimension 8400)? I searched and saw some people asked for the modding of Dell bios, but it seemed that it's almost imposisble do the modding.
On a side note, if it's really the case, maybe Microsoft should ask all computer manufacturers to do so (reprogram the bios like Dell's).

Could you try something else?
