1. First, I want to thank AndyP for providing these wonderful tools for us to use.

For those who successfully modify their bios, please upload it and post a link in "All Slics 2.1" thread for others who require the same bios at http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showthread.php?t=7500.

2. This section of the forum is Only for Those Who Have AMI or AWARD Bios. These Tools will not work with Phoenix Bios.

There are 3 major components which are required to activate a Microsoft Operating System as an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturing) - (1). A SLIC version which matches the particular Windows Operating System installed (Ex. - SLIC v1.0 or 1.1.0 for Windows XP, 98, ME OR SLIC v2.0 for Windows Vista OR SLIC v2.1 for Windows Vista and Windows 7). (2). An OEM SLP Product Key that matches the version of Windows installed - Retail Keys, Volume Licensing Keys will not work. Instead it ALWAYS MUST BE an OEM SLP PRODUCT KEY. (3). A Matching License or Certificate. ALL 3 of these elements must meet in harmony or else you will fail in activating windows as OEM. One cannot exist without the other or it fails.

3. To help you understand the Differences of the various forms of bios, there are basically 3 type of bios - AMI - Award and Phoenix. Phoenix makes all 3 versions and each has its own way of doing things.

4. Download AMI and AWARD Mod Tools from the official web pages below - Check These Links Often for the Versions of both of these two tools change often - If you cannot download from the Official Website, download from the Unofficial website links below:

a. AMI Mod Tool - Official Website: http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showthread.php?t=4071

b. Award Mod Tool - Official Website: http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showthread.php?t=5385

c. The Unofficial Website from which to download both tools are: http://slics.myftp.org/Tools/Ami_Mod_Tool_1.47_and_Award_Mod_Tool_1.32.rar
OR http://www.sendspace.com/file/at9zm1 - THIS LINK INCLUDES ALL SLICS, SLPS and CERTIFICATES that are needed to help you in modifying your bios.

5. Download the Appropriate Bios Directly from your Motherboard's Manufacturer website. Do not trust or use third party websites. Only download directly from the motherboard manufacturer's website. Trust me, you will regret going through many third party websites.
NOTE - If you see a BIOS which has both 64 BIT and 32 BIT, ALWAYS choose 64 BIT though your machine is only 32 BIT - Of course if there is a link to download the Windows 7 Bios, choose this link but always choose Windows 7 64 BIT though your machine is 32 BIT

6. Download and install WinRar: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm - if your bios comes in an executable format (.EXE), winrar is able to unzip the files by right clicking on the file and choose WINRAR - EXTRACT HERE. Another great tool that is helpful in extracting most executable files is Universal Extractor - Download it here: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Compression-tools/Universal-Extractor.shtml OR http://www.legroom.net/software/uniextract. A third extractor of which is very useful is 7ZIP and download it from here: http://www.7-zip.org/download.html

When all those fail to open a file, this tool is MOST USEFUL: FIND_GZ: http://www.box.net/shared/yfsfetms2j OR http://box.net/rssdownload/322447482/find_gz.21.rar OR http://dumpmy.info/files/0EHAAYWR/find_gz.21.rar OR find_gz.21.rar (http://dumpmy.info/files/0EHAAYWR/find_gz.21.rar) Another tool is useful for DELL.EXE Files is http://slics.myftp.org//Dell_BIOS_Mod_Guide.rar

Some of the INTEL BIOS files with the .BIO extension are disguised AMI Bios. Not all of them , but some are. The ITK BIOS also use this extension. A tool that extracts the AMI Bios File from the .BIO File is BIO2AMI (BIO_2_AMI). You move the .BIO file to a folder, run the tool and extract the .ROM File. If it extracts, minimize the tool, mod the .ROM File, replace it in the Folder from which it was extracted and push it back in..it works fairly well. You can download BIO2AMI (BIO_2_AMI) from one of these 4 links: http://www.box.net/shared/auz4uvh80v Or http://www.box.net/shared/85t2yizyqq Or http://www.mediafire.com/?oizejdjjkjd Or http://www.mediafire.com/file/oizejdjjkjd/Intel_2_AMI.rar.

7. Now you are ready to modify your bios which is easy with AndyP's Bios Modification Tools for Award and AMI Bios.

8. Assuming you have downloaded all the elements above and have unzipped your bios file in Bio2Ami or Winrar, if needed, open your Mod Tool by right clicking on it and RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR.
For the Award Mod Tool, right click on AWARDTOOL.EXE. For AMI Mod Tool, right click on AMITOOL.EXE.

The Tools Look Like This When Opened

9. Click the button by ORIGINAL BIOS and navigate to your bios file and click it.

10. Next, choose the manufacturer....if your manufacturer does not show, choose OTHER.

11. Choose SLIC. For those who only want to activate Windows Vista, choose SLIC v2.0. For those who want to activate Windows Vista and Windows 7, choose a SLIC v2.1

For those who choose DELL, open the folder SLICS 2.1 and inside is a SLIC DELL_QA09.BIN. I strongly suggest you choose this SLIC if you want to activate Windows 7 using DELL SLIC v2.1. Match the DELL_QA09.BIN SLIC with the DELL SLP. Be Careful and Do not choose SLIP DELL SYSTEM. If You choose DELL SYSTEM, this will cause you not to be able to activate Windows 7.

12. Choose SLP. If you choose a DELL SLIC, also choose a DELL SLP. This can be left blank.

13. Next, choose the certificate. The BIOS and the Certificate have to match. The tools will let you know if they do match or if they do not match.

14. As far as METHOD is concerned, let the tool choose default method.

For those who have ASROCK AMI bios, the AMI Mod Tool will automatically default to SSV3 when you choose ASROCK from the MANUFACTURER drop down menu. Before modifying, click the ADVANCED button. Once the Advanced window opens, find SSV3 Options and put a check mark by ADJUST SLIC IN DIFFERENT LOCATION.

For those who have an ECS AWARD Bios, EVGA AWARD Bios, MSI AWARD BIOS (NOT MSI AMI) and for those who have an AWARD Bios by HP or COMPAQ, use the ISA method to modify the bios. The Award Mod Tool defaults to 0+2 but ECS AWARD BIOS, EVGA AWARD BIOS, MSI AWARD BIOS, and AWARD Bios by HP or COMPAQ already have a SLIC inserted in the ACPITBL. The 0+2 method only adds a second SLIC and could cause problems with the computer or activation of windows. ISA will replace the OLD SLIC with the NEW SLIC.

15. Click GO and let the tool do its work.

16. After it finishes it will say it is successful or not and if you want to verify the successful modifications, click VERIFY. For those who have AWARD BIOS, this will show a checksum error. This is natural and do not let it bother you.

17. Now flash your bios according to the suggestion of your motheboard manufacturer's recommendations- THIS IS IMPORTANT - Uninstall any cr**ks, lo*ders, bios emulators, patches or cr**ks before flashing your bios.
A tool to uninstall any of these cr**ks, lo*ders, bios emulators, patches or cr**ks is VOATK 2.5 STAND ALONE TOOL - Download Voatk 2.5 Stand Alone Tool at http://www.box.net/shared/ga4588s5lf OR http://www.mediafire.com/?2fkigdmiwlx OR http://www.mediafire.com/file/2fkigdmiwlx/VOATKToolsv.2.5_Stand_Alone.rar OR http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ET9PC779

18. For those who wish to know what is the meaning of SSV, SSV2, SSV3, ISA, PubKey, Dynamic, 0+2, OEM7 or MMTool, download AMI Mod Tool from one of the links above and inside is an Adobe PDF file. Open this PDF file and it will explain the various methods for modifying a bios.

I suggest you download the HOW_TO_FILES from one of the following 2 links: http://www.mediafire.com/?jjqzedmatej (http://www.mediafire.com/?jjqzedmatej) Or http://www.mediafire.com/file/jjqzedmatej/HOW_TO_FILES.rar. I normally give this to everyone of who I modify their bios and has everything needed to successful flash their bios with the new modified version that you made.

Here is a Basic Understanding from ZORT of the Type of Methods of which One Uses to Modify a Bios

SLP = SLP 1.0
A text string that is added to the bios for XP, Win2003, and WHS activation. Corresponding oembios.* files must be installed in Windows.

SLIC = SLP 2.0 / 2.1
Public key/marker code is added to the bios. A certificate (.xrm-ms file) must be installed in Windows that matches the SLIC in the bios. A SLP 2.0 SLIC will activate Vista and Win2008. A SLP 2.1 SLIC will activate Win7 and Win2008 R2, as well as Vista SP1+ and Win2008.

First, SS stands for super static. We call it that because the memory address where the SLIC will be doesn't change. In some older ways of modding the SLIC would be at a different address depending how much RAM was in the computer, so a mod would work for one person but not another.

SSV (or SSV1): A new, uncompressed module is added to the bios that contains SLIC code. This is the way all mods were done originally. For Award bios, OEM and 0+2 methods are SSV1.

SSV2: The slic is written over FF bytes in the bios file, and the slic is not part of a module. This only works for AMI BIOS, not Award.

With SSV2 the system module is usually kept the same size, so all the modules in the bios remain in their original position. Most MSI AMI bioses require this method. If a bios has trouble booting to an onboard raid or other device it could be because of shifted offsets of the bios modules so try SSV2 in that case.

(Note: I did see an Award bios where SSV2 worked once so there might be certain places in an Award BIOS after all the modules where it could work but it would be risky to try. Andy doesn't include a SSV2 option in the Award tool anyway.)

SSV3: The SLIC is written inside the system module. This makes the compressed system module much bigger. That means a lot of the modules will have their offsets (location in the bios file) shifted to make room for the expanded system. It usually works fine with Asus bioses, but can brick an MSI (w/AMI bios) motherboard. For Award bios to prevent all the modules from shifting we black out the EPA logo which makes it highly compressible. This way all the modules below the EPA logo will still remain at their original offsets. SSV3 works well with most bioses. For Gigabyte Award bios it's usually the best choice.

Pubkey: Only applies to Award bios. SLIC code is added to the bios as two parts (public key + marker). The only brand it works reliably with is Asus. It is safer than most methods because it doesn't change any existing modules. To flash it you have to use bios built in flash utility (EZ-Flash) because awdflash.exe will say "invalid Windows license". AMI bios has something similar in the form of a Fx module which is covered in the Dynamic option of the AMI Tool.

0+2: For Award. A "nocompress" (uncompressed) module is added to the end of the bios. The system module (module "0") is shrunk by the same amount that acpitbl (usually module "2") increases. This keeps the offsets the same for all the modules under acpitbl. This is a good option for Award bioses that don't have an active SLIC in their acpitbl already. For ones that do it will add a second SLIC and won't activate.

ISA: For Award. An ISA module with a special program is added to the end of the bios. The program replaces the SLIC in RAM with a new one, or adds a SLIC if one isn't present. This is a good choice for bioses that already have an active SLIC. It is also safer than most methods because it doesn't modify any existing modules. It doesn't work with most newer Gigabyte bioses.

Dynamic: Existing SLIC is overwritten with the new SLIC. For a bios with a SLIC that isn't enabled this won't do anything unless the configuration lock can be removed. (Fortunately for Asus AMI bios we can remove the config lock.) For Award bioses, this method is hit and miss. It has worked well sometimes (ex: Asus with lock removed) but on some occasions bricked motherboards (ex: a Shuttle and an EVGA, but there were some other Shuttles that worked)

OEM: For Award. SLIC is added as an uncompressed "OEM" module. The OEM module usually takes the location in the bios that the EPA or ACPITBL was using, and the EPA or ACPITBL is then readded at the end. This works well for older Award bioses like Abit. This is an ok option for Award bioses that don't have an enabled SLIC in their acpitbl already. For ones that do it will add a second SLIC and won't activate.

First of all, thankyou for putting this together, i do however have one question and it is kind of confusing, the SLIC_SPL file you so kindly provided has all sorts of things in it.
SLIC 2.1 and SLICS 2.1 for example, the SLIC 2.1 dir has faily simple choices being 4 Manufactures and thats it, the SLICS 2.1 dir has an incredible list of files and a subdirectory named 2.1 wich again has several manufacturers listed as subdirectories and some files in each, this doesnt really make it clear what choices have to be made.
as for the SLP directory, they are just text files with the manufacturer name in it ?
if you could kindly answer my question that would certainly help me allot more :)

I have a question regarding last step..

17. Now flash your bios according to the suggestion of your motheboard manufacturer's recommendations.

My mainboard is ASRock and I can flash my bios from windows, so I get an *.exe file which cannot be unarchived by winRar nor 7zip. So I used AMI Slic Mod and selected the exe file, after doing everything in the tutorial everything seemed to work fine, and in the end I got some new files:

AFUWIN.ROM
AFUWIN_SLIC.ROM
1B.BIN
1B_SLIC.BIN

Now regardning last step. Do I flash my bios normally using the .exe file or do I need to use the .rom files? (I'm not sure if those can even be used.. )

Question: Would installing Windows 7 on a modded BIOS through VMWare activate the same as it would if you installed it normally?

I'm asking because I modded my BIOS according to this tutorial and Windows 7 didn't activate in VMWare.

Specs:
Gigabyte EP45-UD3P rev 1.1
Bios: F10E
Bios type: Award
SLIC 2.1/SLP: Dell
Cert: Dell

Everything appeared to have worked ok using the awardtool and it flashed fine, but in VMWare it says The Windows 7 Ultimate Key you typed is invalid for activation.

Note: I used "easy install" via VMWare and pre-typed the 22TKD-F8XX6-YG69F-9M66D-PMJBM Key in.

VMWare got their own BIOS :D

If you're not going to activate XP it's okay to leave it blank...
It's better if you flash BIOS from DOS Prompt ;)

@Busykid508, Thanks a lot!!!

Do we not have an ASUS specific SLIC 2.1 yet? I could not find one in the "Slics_SLP_Certs" or along with the "slictool128". I guess its all the same (currently have added HP SLIC 2.1 to my P5B Deluxe's BIOS), but having an ASUS SLIC 2.1 in the BIOS is more... errr... satisfying :)

After melting my brain for about a week searching how to mod the bios.
Finally thanks to you, i was able to do it!
Thank you so much!!

Now, i have a question. This will work with any loader? Beacause i used the HP cert in here.
So, when i use the loader i have to use the HP cert or what?

Thanks again!

With a modded bios you only need the serial and a certificate (on first page of this thread). Don't waste your time with any loader!

MerolaC

Mmm, you mean the files ending with XRM-MS?

If are those, any serial will work?

Specially this one. 22TKD-F8XX6-YG69F-9M66D------ ?

As you can see i'm a noob :(

Thanks for your help :D

You do not need a loader....just insert the HP or Dell or whatever certficiate and use this Product Key that is below to Activate Windows 7 Ultimate Edition

You also wanted to know how to activate Windows 7. Do a Clean Installation of Windows 7 before activating it by instructions below. Do not input Product Key during installation and remove checkmark by Activate When Online. Here are the instructions to activate Windows 7 - I use the HP illustration below but substitute whatever certificate that fits your Modified bios.

1. Copy and paste HP.XRM-MS file into C-Drive.

2. After pasting this file into C-Drive, go to START - ALL PROGRAMS - ACCESSORIES - COMMAND PROMPT. Right click on Command Prompt and RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR.

3. When Command Prompt opens, type at the prompt: slmgr.vbs -ilc c:\hp.xrm-ms and hit the Enter Button. Wait for the Script Host to answer you with a message that the license was installed successfully....this could take a few minutes and so be patient.

4. After receiving the message that the license was installed successfully, type at the command prompt: slmgr.vbs -ipk 22TKD-F8XX6-YG69F-9M66D-PMJBM and hit the Enter Button. Be Patient and wait for the message to say that the Product Key was sucessfully installed. (This OEM SLP Product Key is for Windows 7 Ultimate). After it says successfully installed, reboot the computer.

5. When you are back at your desktop, go to START - COMPUTER - right click on Computer and choose PROPERTIES and see if it is activated with an OEM product ID.

6. Or go back to command prompt and type slmgr.vbs -ato in elevated privileges and hit the enter button.

Thank you for your efforts again. I have tried flashing your updated BIOS mod and still do not have a 2.1 SLIC. At this point, I believe it may be a limitation of the AMI mod tool.

I flashed with AFUDOS with the /P /N /K /REBOOT switches. I also tried just /P /REBOOT for the BIOS block.

Here is a screenshot of my RW Everything ACPI report, note the lack of SLIC table although OEMS is present, which is the old 2.0 SLIC (click for larger shot)

Great tutorial and tools!! Thanks a lot!!!

I've been able to successfully mod my bios but I have a question...
I have pressed the * button at the bottom right corner and then a "dump" folder with lots of .bin files in it was created in the folder where the original bios is.

What does this button do?

A DUMP folder contains coded information...just delete it...it is not pertinent to flashing the bios.

this work with 64bit or just 32 ?

It works with either one...64 Bit and 32 Bit have no bearing on a bios...they only have weight with Windows and the amount of memory or Ram of which you have.

My Lenovo IdeaPad S10 BIOS is WinPhlash

Can any of these tools work with a BIOS.WPH file?

Unfortunately, .WPH files are Phoenix bios and these tools cannot help you....as of now, Phoenix must be manually modified and they are tricky and hard to do.

Bios: F10E
Bios type: Award
SLIC 2.1/SLP: Dell

Everything appeared to have worked ok using the awardtool and it flashed fine, but in VMWare it says The Windows 7 Ultimate Key you typed is invalid for activation.

Note: I used "easy install" via VMWare and pre-typed the 22TKD-F8XX6-YG69F-9M66D-PMJBM Key in.

Congratulations for QA09 Dell Slic v2.1 is there...now go activate Windows 7...:)

Lol, sarcasm or real?
:p

I didn't really activated it yes. Since I'm using the Chinese activator.
I just flahsed the bios.
I'll wait for a clean install (maybe i do it now) and see if it activates ok.

Other question.
Do i need to type the key when i'm installing or activate when Windows is installed?

Thanks for you're help!

Hi.

I'm using motherboard Jetway PA78M4. I have tried to mod bios with these tool, using HP slic, slp and cert, and successfully. But I haven't upgrade bios yet.

Is there any risk if I upgrade with modded bios?

Only the slight risk of bricking your motherboard, other than that if it
goes as it should you'll be able to activate windows 7 with no problems.

1. First, I want to thank AndyP for providing these wonderful tools for us to use.

2. This is Only for Those Who Have AMI or AWARD Bios. These Tools will not work with Phoenix Bios. - Check with the Official Web Pages below for updates which are frequent.

3. To help you with the Differences with the various forms of bios, there are basically 3 bios - AMI - Award and Phoenix. Phoenix makes all 3 versions and each has its own way of doing things.

4. Download AMI and AWARD Mod Tools from the official webpage:

a. AMI Mod Tool: http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showthread.php?t=4071

b. Award Mod Tool: http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showthread.php?t=5385

c. The unofficial web page from which to use and download both tools are: http://www.mediafire.com/?coddwmtzz5n Or http://www.mediafire.com/file/coddwmtzz5n/AMI_Tool_Award_Tool.rar Or http://www.megaupload.com/?d=C33LL5DC

4. Download the Appropriate Bios Directly from your Motherboard's Manufacturer website. Do not trust or use third party websites. Only download directly from the motherboard manufacturer's website. Trust me, you will regret going through many third party websites.

5. Download and install WinRar: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm - if your bios comes in an executable format (.EXE), winrar is able to unzip the files by right clicking on the file and choose WINRAR - EXTRACT HERE.

6. Download SLICS v2.0 and v2.1, SLP and Certifications from here: http://www.mediafire.com/?zmzatvzmmjn Or http://www.mediafire.com/file/zmzatvzmmjn/Slics_SLP_Certs.rar Or http://www.megaupload.com/?d=AK0IU4OR

7. Now you are ready to modify your bios which is easy with AndyP's Bios Modification Tools for Award and AMI Bios.

8. Assuming you have downloaded all the elements above and have unzipped your bios file in winrar if needed, open your Mod Tool by right clicking on it and RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR.

15. Click GO and let the tool do its work.

16. After it finishes it will say it is successful or not and if you want to verify the successful modifications, click VERIFY. For those who have AWARD BIOS, this will show a checksum error. This is natural and do not let it bother you.

17. Now flash your bios according to the suggestion of your motheboard manufacturer's recommendations.

Thank you very much mate! Now I modded my own BIOS - first time. Never thought it would be that easy.

But, what do I do next, just the commands for the windows script host like discribed in some threads?

Thank you for some info on that, much appreciated!

13. Next, choose the certificate. The BIOS and the Certificate have to match. The tools will let you know if they do match or if they do not match.

Excuse me if I'm mistaken, but, shouldn't be?...

If you use a DELL SLIC v2.1, you need to use DELL_QA09.BIN 2.1 and the DELL SLP. There are 2 DELL SLPS. One is DELL and the other is DELL SYSTEM. DO NOT CHOOSE DELL SYSTEM but Choose DELL.

But most importantly, choose DELL_QA09.BIN for SLIC v2.1

And You must flash from DOS with a gigabyte motherboard. Flash Bios in DOS using FLASHSPI and a Bootable USB Flash Drive. In the files will be an autoexec.bat file.

Open autoexec.bat file by right click on it and choose EDIT. This will open in Notepad. Make sure the name of the bios in the autoexec.bat file is exactly the same name that your MODIFIED bios is named.

For example, if your modified bios is named PY678_SLIC.BIN but the autoexec.bat file has it named as PY678.BIN (Without the SLIC in its name) and if you do not change the name, then it will not flash the bios.

Whatever name of your bios must be the exact name of the one in the autoexec.bat file or it will not flash.

It has always been my procedure to rename the bios file to the shortest possible name. For example, if your modified bios file is named PY678_SLIC.BIN, I would rename the file as PY6.BIN.

In the autoexec.bat file, I would open it in Notepad and edit the bios name to py6.bin - In DOS capital letters are ignored.

I just edited this in my original post but you might want to download the HOW_TO_FILES from one of these 2 links: http://www.mediafire.com/?jjqzedmatej Or http://www.mediafire.com/file/jjqzedmatej/HOW_TO_FILES.rar - these files are what I normally give to those who I modify their bios and has everything that they need to successfully flash their bios.

First of all many many thanks for this great tutorial ! You are reall great !

Sorry for jumping in with my problem but I was unable to activate Windows 7.
Here are the steps I did (I few times now). So far no good :(

Downloaded the latest ASUS G50V Bios from http://dlsvr04.asus.com/pub/ASUS/nb/G50V/G50V-ASUS-0213.zip
Downloaded, extracted, and then ran AMI Mod Tool with admisitrator rigth (UAC is activated on my Win7)

With AMI Mod tool here are what I have done :
Manufacturer : Leaved ASUS as default
Slic file : DELL_QA09.BIN from folder SLICS 2.1
Slp file : Dell.txt from folder Slp
Cert : DELL.XRM-MS from folder certs (vista)
Method : SSV3
"Use MMTool" = checked
Advanced Option : "SSV3 Options Adjust location of SLIC" (tried checked and unchecked with the same result)
Hit Go > ended without any errors

Rebooted
Under the Bios choosed to Flash the bios (I can't flash under windows, asus winflash is telling me that the same BIOS version was already applied)
Rebooted

Run CMD with administrator rights and type
slmgr -ilc DELL.XRM-MS
slmgr -ipk 22TKD-F8XX6-YG69F-9M66D-PMJBM
slmgr -dlv

Windows Seven isn't activated.

And did you follow these directions for what you showed me says you have DELL slic v2.1 installed.

You also wanted to know how to activate Windows 7. Do a Clean Installation of Windows 7 before activating it by instructions below. Do not input Product Key during installation and remove checkmark by Activate When Online. Here are the instructions to activate Windows 7 -
I use the HP illustration below but substitute whatever certificate that fits your Modified bios.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A200, that has a Phoenix BIOS. I downloaded the latest BIOS from this link (http://fs.pc.toshiba-asia.com/drivers/public/doc/A200B210_WIN_PSAF3_PSAF6.exe), and extracted it using WinRAR. I was expecting a .WPH, but the BIOS update file is named MW10210M.ROM...

@Busykid508- is there a way to mod this BIOS, and is it advisable for me to try? I don't want to conk it out...

Mmm, have you used a lo*der or act*vator before?
If you have, do a clean install and try again.
It should work.

Other think is to try, (like Busykid508 says) using ADUDOS to flash the bios.

I hope you get it working.

Bye, MerolaC

No I didn't use any lo*der or act*vator before. It is a 5 day fresh install.
I'm trying to boot from my USB drive and see if a DOS flash will change something. I'll keep you all informed.

Thank you again for your help

I just modified your bios with no problems....You have to follow directions of how to use AFLASH to flash your bios. Link to those directions are below

I'm testing it right now.
Please note that I was able to modify my bios too with no problems... Windows keep refusing to validate the OEM key.

I'll give you feedback after my BIOS update. See you in 10min.

And.. thank you again for your time.

Being a noob, let me know if I got this right. I have an HP OEM Vista machine with SLIC 2.0 in the AMI BIOS.

In order for me to get Windows 7 Ultimate installed and activated without using a cr**k or lo*der, I would have to mod my BIOS to have SLIC 2.1 using the AMI mod tool and instructions in the first post of this thread, making sure the BIOS and certificate match. Then I install Windows 7 Ultimate with that key floating around, then install the HP certificate I used during the bios mod (slmgr.vbs -ilc C:\hp.xmr-ms). Finally I activate and all should be well and good?

Thanks for any help and sorry for the noobish questions!

Awesome! Good to know I'm in the right mindset about all this.

Being my machine is OEM, I could only get the BIOS file from them instead of Asus. I ran the AMI mod tool and it was looking for a file with a *.rom extension, which wasn't in the extracted folder. I chose the file called VIO5.29 and it detected the file as the BIOS. Went through the rest of the steps and it matched and verified after it completed.

Problem is, how do I install it? Originally, it should be run via the HP installer. but now there are 3 new files in the folder, 2 bin files (1b.bin and 1b_slic.bin) and a VIO5_SLIC.29 file (someone told me in another forum that this was the updated BIOS file, anyone confirm?). I'm not not so sure it'll install the files I want it to if I go via the installer.

Should I use something like an AMI BIOS flash utility and update using the VIO5_SLIC.29 file manually or should I maybe delete the old VIO5.29 file and rename the new one to to that and run the installer?

Sorry again for the noobish questions. Any thoughts?

This is the Modified bios (VIO5_SLIC.29). Rename the file to VIOS.29 - The other 2 bin files can be deleted and are not needed. Also delete the VIOS.29 which is the NON-modified bios. Flash your bios according to HP's Recommendation for your particular machine....they should have provided a flash utility for you.

Hi,

I have an ASUS A8Js notebook with SLIC 2.0 and would like to upgrade the bios to SLIC 2.1 for Windows 7. The only thing worrying me is that A8Js has Geforce Go 7700 and it's bios is build in the notebooks bios. Will this thing matter? Could someone please investigate the bios file and tell me, if modified slic bios would be ok to flash or not.

You can download the newest bios from: http://www.asustreiber.de/downloads/bios/a-serie/374-a8jsv-bios-version-213

Another question: There's no SLIC 2.1 from Asus available atm so if I have understood right, it should be ok to patch for example Dell Slic in the bios and just use Dell's certificate, right?

Thanks in advance!

I have a toshiba equium p200d, i'm trying to follow the tutorial. The tutorial seems quite straight forward, however....
I downloaded and extracted the bios from the toshiba web site.
When i try and open it in the award prog it says bios size not valid.
It downloaded with a exe installer, the file is called asaa 140a.rom and is 1.04 MB.

Am i right off the mark?
Hope i'm making sense.

Most likely your file is not an Award or AMI bios but rather is a Phoenix. Toshiba loves Phoenix. And so, none of the tools here would be useful...give a download link and I will tell you if this is true or not.

I think this is your bios: http://www.evga.com/support/drivers/default.asp?switch=2

If it is your bios, then you modified the incorrect one.....check out the page above and let me know

Here is the only info I have as I can no longer find the download on
evga's website. I do know that the flashing program it uses is awdflash
if that helps any.

Motherboard Name: Evga 112-CK-NF75-K1 (e7100/630i)
Bios Type: Phoenix - AwardBios v6.00PG
Bios Version: 1.5
Bios Link: http://www.evga.com/download/bios/NF75v15.zip

If you want to make sure of your bios, go here on EVGA's website and check: http://www.evga.com/support/drivers/

Click on MAINBOARDS - BIOS and then choose Name of the Motherboard that matches yours.

The board I have is the NF75 which is the 7100/630i motherboard. The bios

motherboard which apparently is still at version 1.5 as I havent been able to

Again for those who are hard of hearing....THERE IS NO ASUS SLIC v2.1 or ASUS SLP v2.1 and there never will be...that animal does not exist.

Why are you so sure that ASUS SLICK 2.1 will never appear?

Why are you so sure that ASUS SLICK 2.1 will never appear?

Do you have an Asus SLIC v2.1? And neither has anyone else and yet, all the remaining OEM Manufacturers have issued a SLIC v2.1.

We have yet to see if it happens with ASUS.

However, you are mising the point. A SLIC in the bios has nothing to do with changing the bios to another brand. This means I can insert a DELL SLIC v2.1 into an ASUS bios. This insertion does not change the bios from ASUS to DELL. This only means that a partition is inserted in a certain module so that Windows 7 OEM or Windows Vista OEM can be activated.

Yes. All are absolutely correct. However, it is unclear why there is still no ASUS product with BIOS that contains SLIC 2.1? Why do you believe that in future such a SLIC does not appear?

Hi guys! Can anybody assist me please.
I have ASUS notebook with F3Jc mobo.
Trying to patch bios with AMI tools and HP files.
SLIC 2.1 was added successful.
But Win7 still not activated.
I noticed some other tables still have original OEM ID.
So I played with advanced options and now all tables have HP OEM ID except of two tables: OEMS (which is not problem as I got) and RSDT.
I have seen in log this row
RSDT table OEM and Table ID patched to DELL QA09
but no.. it still has
OEM ID "_ASUS_"
OEM Table ID "Notebook"

Used SSV3 option.

Do you have the link for the download of your bios and what is the name of your machine and motherboard model?

Hello i build together i system from old parts , so i have back the luxury of cpy and paste.

I used the originial Bios for my asus M2A-VM . Its award and Revision 2302.

http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=de-de

javascript:downloadfile(this,'M2A-VM','mb/socketAM2/M2A-VM/2302.zip','1','24','14','1','2302.zip','0','0');,% 20show_bios_warnning()

I modded it using the guide, it used the pub Key Method.

since then the Bios tells me that there is RAM of 0 KB installed. . I removed the RAMS and build them in the system im using right now. Its working. so they are not dfective. However i can not boot up the other system with RAM of 0.

I tried to flash back to the original unmodded bios. Which Woked witheout problems, but the ram is still 0.

I used the EZ Flash 2 Tool , that is build in in the Bios.

any suggestions?

Update:

downgrading the Bios to a lower Version doesent help either. I think, the PArt that is not flashed during update or downgrade is the problem. Is there a commandlinetool for award bios , which makes a complete flash?

update: 2

I found out that the Problem seems to be using the build in Easy Flash 2 from Asus. Flashing my modded M2A-VM bios from DOS with AWDFLASH.EXE Tool worked like a charme. Activation did work as well.

Many thanks.

Thanks in advance!

Does anyone know about this? Will the SLIC editing mess that graphics card bios built in the main bios?

hello people,
i uploaded my bios modded with slictool 1.28 for my mobo :
P5B DELUXE bios 1238
modded with DELL slic 2.1, SLP is dell too.
method used SSV3.
windows 7 ultimate x64 activated.
i gave u the dell certificat too in the archive.
reboot your mobo and press alt+F2 to go to EZflash
put the modded bios on some usb stick and flash your bios with the asus bios tool.
after the mod is done u can check it with everest, u'll see that dell SLIC 2.1 was added, now u can activate any windows 7 ultimate with the dell certificat and the oem key ;-)
http://ailef.neuf.fr/P5B_DELUXE_SLIC_2.1.rar

it worked on my desktop so if it doesnt work for u, there's something u're doing wrong with the activation !

It could very well be. I know that 99% of the failed activations are from human error and something as simple as that could prevent it from activating

I know that if you do a fresh installation and follow the correct steps, you will succeed

All ASROCK files that are AMI have one extra step which must be done in the AMI Mod Tool....I add this step in the tutorial today..

When you open the Asrock Bios in AMI Mod Tool, be sure to choose ASROCK from the Manufacturer's list. This will make AMI Mod Tool automatically default to SSV3 Method. Leave that method but click on ADVANCE button. When Advance Window opens, find SSV3 Options and put a check mark by INSERT SLIC IN DIFFERENT LOCATION. This should do the trick for you. This quirk is in all ASROCK bios as I have found.

If I mod my bios and use say dell slic2.1 and dell slp, I then have to use the dell certificate, and can I use the hp key+certificate to act#vate. does it matter?

Or do I have to use Hp slic2.1 and slp, then use hp certifacate with Hp key

the only 7 key out is a hp one right?

where do I find the OEMSLIC-MPC.XRM-MS , certifacate files for actv

In the slic-slp-certs.rar there are 2 folders with slic2.1 and slics2.1 what is what. The one folder has another slic2.1 folder with a bunch more too what are they all doing? If thing were only labeled better!

Ok Ive been playing around with the program and made one I think will work. I downloaded a kit off of h33t with the tools and someone deleted the parts of the kit for vista and other stuff
I think to make it easier?. I just got the one from this site and am working with it.

The thing is what is the difference between the directory slic21 and slics 2.1, are they the same?

SLIC21 and SLICS 2.1 for example, the SLIC 2.1 dir has faily simple choices being 4 Manufactures and thats it, the SLICS 2.1 dir has an incredible list of files and a subdirectory named 2.1 wich again has several manufacturers listed as subdirectories and some files in each, this doesnt really make it clear what choices have to be made.

when you try to ac@VATE you need one of those .xrm-ms files and a key, for win7 do I use a included vista certificate and a key, or do I need win7 certificates?

I got that hpqoem.xrm-ms extracted from wow7

when you try to ac@VATE you need one of those .xrm-ms files and a key, for win7 do I use a included vista certificate and a key, or do I need win7 certificates?

I got that hpqoem.xrm-ms extracted from wow7

There is no difference....if you want to combine the two v2.1 files, then do so....there may be some duplication.... and you activate using a vista certificate or license.....no, do not use hqgoem.xrm-ms....that only pertains to WOW and may not work here.

Just want to make sure this too, If I use a slic2.1 file and slp. I need to use a matching certificate. Like dell, dell, dell. I cant use a hp certificate with dell slic2.1 right?
But I can use a hp key with a dell slic2.1 modded bios

The SLIC and Certificate have to match....the SLP can be different but I would not advise it....I can add 2 - 3 SLPs or more but what is the point?

Sorry for not making things clear.
I mean, i was unable to flash the bios mod by myself.
I flash the machine with the original one, restar, mod it with Award_SLICTool113 in default .
Flash it in dos, but all ended in "Invalid windows lincense .
The command i used is "awd873 1401.BIN /py /sn /cc /cd /cp /LD /R " and "/py /sn /cc /cd /cp /sb /r".
i've successed in mod those of aopen, jetway etc, but this.
Should i make some modification ?
Some suggestions pls.
Thanks

Because you used switch commands of DOS on aopen, jetway, etc, does not mean you can use those same switch commands on this machine. Unless the Flash Utility calls for it, then leave well enough alone.

Here is the rule of thumb for flashing a bios - ALWAYS and I repeat, ALWAYS use the RECOMMENDED Flash Utility of your motherboard manufacturers recommendation and do not add any commands, change any files unless it says to do so.

Now, there are exceptions and I know when to break that rule but for the novice, this is the rule he or she should follow.

If I dont use vista certificates, where do I find them for win7? which ones are they?

IN my folders everything has a .bin extension, I dont have any that have .xm-ms. The one from wow7 is the only one I know of and It verified with the Hp slic2.1

Just for reference I have a Foxconn Bloodrage x58 MOBO and when I modded it it used 0+2 method for creation. Used the plain hp.bin, I believe it was successful, it said it was and I verified and said it was ok. In the lines of checking code it said fail in a couple spots is that normail, but it said it was ok.

The other thing I wanted to know was which file should I use for Hp, There is about 3 different slic2.1 files, same goes for dell. The dell ones listed there are about 3 of them, from what I read is the one with DELL_QA09.bin the only one that will work. Or do others work too. Why would all those other ones be there if they dont work

In the past when I flashed my bios I never used any switches, and it always worked. Is there anything wrong with that practice?

First, did you download the SLICS, SLPS and Certificates from these links:
Download SLICS v2.0 and v2.1, SLP and Certifications from here: http://www.box.net/shared/beh4dtlqmu OR http://www.mediafire.com/?xguiwi0azg3 OR http://www.mediafire.com/file/xguiwi0azg3/SLICS21_SLICS20_CERTS.rar OR http://www.megaupload.com/?d=EP40TJDX.

These links would have allowed you to download certificates and the folder name is Vista Certs and these certificates are not Bin Files.

If the Tool said that it was successful, trust it...it is successful and the 0+2 Method does not change the bios but only switches modules.

To learn the different methods used by the tools, download the AMI Mod Tool and unzip it. Inside is a .PDF file. Read that .PDF file to learn what all the methods mean.

You only use switches if the Flash Utility which came with your bios calls for it. Otherwise, leave well enough alone.

Thanks I really appreciate the help

Iwas just making sure iused the right certificates, cause the folder said certs(vista), just wanted to make sure these worked on 7.

If you could just help me with why there is so many different files for slic2.1
there are like 6 hp and 5 dell ones.
From what i read that one dell a_09 works, but which Hp one works
why is there a bunch of other ones if they dont work

The number of SLICS v2.1 are numerous but it is really quite simple. I like to use DELL_QA09.BIN 2.1 SLIC along with DELL (Not DELL SYSTEM) SLP and of course DELL Certificate.

For HP, it is quite simple: Use HP SLIC v2.1 along with HP SLP and of course, HP Certificate.

There is no ASUS SLIC v2.1 at this time...though I saw a SLIC that apparently has it inserted but that is yet to be seen.

It won't hurt you to download and experiment with numerous bios and play with them using different SLICS, SLPS and Certificates - Trust the Tools - they will tell you if what you inserted will work or not.

There will be any difference betwen the Asus slic and the Dell?
A mean, any advantage? Of course i will be smart to use it on a Asus board. But any real advantage?

Thanks Bussy!

Here is something taught to me by zort:

This concerns all Award Bios -

1. If a SLIC is present in an Award Bios, Do not use these 3 methods: 0+2 - SSV3 - OEM.

2. Instead, use one of these methods - Dynamic - Pubkey - ISA (ISA and Pubkey are the safest since they do not modify existing modules.

3. If there is an off the shelf motherboard such as ASUS with a SLIC already inserted, then you can be assured that the SLIC is DISABLED and gives you cause to use any method on it.

4. If it is an OEM Motherboard (TOSHIBA, HP, SONY, etc) and has an existing SLIC, you can be assured it is ENABLED. Therefore, you should limit modification options or you will insert a second slic in the bios and may cause the computer to brick.

If you want to activate Windows 7, there is no need to use an ASUS SLIC for the only ones we have as of this date are v2.0 and will not allow you to activate Windows 7 as OEM> By the way, thanks for helping on this board...it is appreciated.

Help!

I trieds to mod my BIOS to SLIC 2.1 but it did not take.

The only mods I can find on the boards all use ASUS SLIC 2.1 for which there is not a certificate at this time

Could someone perform this mod for me?

Motherboard Manufacturer and Model : eVGA 650I Ultra (NF66)
-Bios Revision :P05
-Bios Type : Award
-Bios SLIC : Dell
-Bios Link : ftp://ftp.evga.com/bios/nf66_p05.iso

MMm, should be because i used the ISA method.
Try Everest and check on ACPI the SLIC table.
If nothing is there, there is no slic.

Other thing you can do is to use the bios posted by busykid

Hi ya'll from the Netherlands,

A couple of days ago i heard about this SLIC stuff and what it was about (new to me). Eventually i found this wonderful forum :-)
I've done a lot of reading and bookmarking, until i found it was time to do something (really) useful :+)

Yes, i followed the guide (which is fantastic btw) and managed to add a Dell 2.1 SLIC to my Asus 1000HE Eee PC.
The SLIC table is there now (checked with RW Everything), and now i'm supposed to activate Windows 7 OEM.

The question is... with what key? (i have no idea where they are or which one i should use)
Perhaps its really close under my nose, but i guess i'm a bit tired right now (been up all night checking everything out)

Hopefully someone of you kind and probably handsome (and/or intelligent) people can help a dutch fella out? ;)
I really appreciate what u people do for each other (the community)

Thank you in advance for any help offered. See you around!
