Hi I am wondering if anyone can help add an SLIC 2.1 table to the bios for the BENQ Joybook S41. I couldn't unpack the bios so i did the following to dump the bios:

To extract your bios do the folowing:
Open HWDirect and go to "Memory Dump".
In the Adress box enter FFF00000
In the Size box enter 100000
press Dump.
Right click into window, select all, right click again, copy. Paste as new file into winhex. (Open winhex and press Shift + insert key) Make sure ASCII-hex is selected. Save file and upload, please!

Is this correct or is there another way to dump the bios?

Thanks in advance!

Hello amborem,

The bios in http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showthread.php?t=7828 is identical to the Phoenix V3.60 of Acer Aspire 5630.

It should therefore work. I will try it on my Aspire 5630 as soon as my daughter returns it for a few days:)

I've used that mod bios and bricked my 5630. It got frozen after saying flash operation successful, it doesn't even power up (no fans, no lights, no keyboard ... nothing)
Have you test that mod bios and it worked for you?

Please create BIOS SLIC 2.1 for windows 7
I built my laptop using a MITAC 8227DMP barebones and I think the details you require are:

-Motherboard Manufacturer and Model : Intel Crestline & ICH8M Chipset
-Bios Manufacturer: Phoenix Technologies LTD
SMBIOSBIOSVersion: R2.01
SMBIOSMajorVersion: 2.4
CurrentLanguage:
ReleaseDate: 09/01/2008

I have also attached Rw-everything report:

I hope i have provided all you need if not please let me know what you need.

Thanks in advance.

Hi People

You are all doing some great work and it is much appreciated, however I have obviously not provided sufficient information or perhaps the wrong information as no one has replied. I would appreciate if you can tell me what is needed or what I need to try my own mod, although I will need lots of help and patience from you guys. Thanks again.

Hi People

You are all doing some great work and it is much appreciated, however I have obviously not provided sufficient information or perhaps the wrong information as no one has replied. I would appreciate if you can tell me what is needed or what I need to try my own mod, although I will need lots of help and patience from you guys. Thanks again.

Peter J

Where is the download link to the bios? We are not going to do your work which is to provide the download link to the bios.

I've used that mod bios and bricked my 5630. It got frozen after saying flash operation successful, it doesn't even power up (no fans, no lights, no keyboard ... nothing)
Have you test that mod bios and it worked for you?

I just saw your request and the bios update that was provided...do not use that bios on your daughter's computer....give me a few minutes and i will modify one for you.

Ok Thanks
as it is a barebones system I am having difficulty finding a link to the bios. Am I able to extract the original bios and send that? Sorry if this is a stupid question but as you have probably gathered I am a bit of a dweeb at this.

I keep seeing people posting that they used the "phoenix mod tool 016", is this something that's widely available or only for certain modders? I'm asking only because I'm waiting on a Phoenix Mod (post #1189) and I know there are a ton of people who have this box but don't know this stuff is possible!

Use this bios here and use the CRISDISK to Make a Bios Recovery File for yourself to recover your former bios

First, did you install a RTM version of Windows? I hope you did not install an RC version.

Second, did you install any cracks, loaders, patches or bios emulators to activate Windows PRIOR to you flashing your bios?

Third, did you use Elevated Privileges to run Commands - that is did you RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR?

Used VOATK tool to remove crack, successful
Flashed BIOS- successful, I think, RW everything now shows a slic table- not present before
Using RTM
Used Administrative command prompt
Thanks, I could re-install RTM, if necessary

Used VOATK tool to remove cr**k, successful
Flashed BIOS- successful, I think, RW everything now shows a slic table- not present before
Using RTM
Used Administrative command prompt
Thanks, I could re-install RTM, if necessary

There is no need to install RTM if you already have one installed.....

What is the link to the bios file that you downloaded?

BEFORE THE FLASHING PLEASE create a Phoenix Bios Crisis Recovery Disk:http://www.4shared.com/file/125012595/e389f09f/CRISDISK.html

avoid flashing in windows, make it in DOS ...

Good Luck !

I created a bootable flash drive and copied the rom and phlash16.exe to the flash drive and rebooted the system to the flash drive, and issued the following command:

phlash16 ayaa160a.rom

The phlash16 program started to run and the laptop started beeping after every so many seconds. The phlash16 screen displayed no errors, even with the beeping, before it finished the machine reset and doesn't start. So what can I do to recover the bios? I do not have access to a usb floppy.

I have a bootable flash drive with phlash16.exe and the manufacturers bios on the flash drive, and have tried powering off and holding fn+b and turning on to no avail. The flash drive does flicker as though being read for two seconds but nothing there after.

Slic v2.1 is there...did you do this below

IF YOUR CERTFICATE IS NOT DELL.XRM-MS, SUBSTITUTE THE NAME OF
YOUR CERTFICATE IN PLACE OF THE ONE USED BELOW FOR PURPOSES OF
ILLUSTRATION. EXAMPLE - HP.XRM-MS OR COMPAQ.XRM-MS

1. Copy and paste DELL.XRM-MS CERTIFICATE into C-Drive.

2. After pasting this file into C-Drive, go to START - ALL PROGRAMS -
ACCESSORIES - COMMAND PROMPT. Right click on Command Prompt and
RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR.

3. When Command Prompt opens, type at the prompt: slmgr.vbs -ilc c:\dell.xrm-ms and hit the Enter Button. Wait for the Script Host to answer you with a message that the license was installed successfully....this could take a few minutes and so be patient.

4. After receiving the message that the license was installed successfully,
type at the command prompt: slmgr.vbs -ipk 22TKD-F8XX6-YG69F-9M66D-PMJBM and hit the Enter Button. Be Patient and wait for the message to say that the Product Key was sucessfully installed. (This OEM SLP Product Key is for Windows 7 Ultimate). After it says successfully installed, reboot
the computer.

5. When you are back at your desktop, go to START - COMPUTER - right
click on Computer and choose PROPERTIES and see if it is activated
with an OEM product ID.

6. Or go back to command prompt and type slmgr.vbs -ato in elevated
privileges and hit the enter button.

Flashed from DOS using phlash16. Computer does not boot :(
Need to restore the original BIOS, but don't have a floppy drive (((

Why did you not use SAMSUNG DOS FLASH UTILITY as I said in the information post?

If you do not have a floppy drive, you are going to have to borrow one or you going to have to buy one...an external floppy drive.

No, it is not...the utility to flash it is windows based but Bios is DOS or windows based

Get the Original Bios File which is in the download that I provided and flash the bios using PHLASH16 or the CRISDISK method.

EDIT: @RACERPRO

This should activate..http://slics5.myftp.org/biosFiles/ACER_BIOS 3.60_DELL_SLIC21.rar

Thanks for the help but this notebook stop flashing at 80% and freeze. I had to turn power off after 10 minutes of waiting to finish flashing from the 80%. Now the notebook is dead (it even not power on, nothing), i have purchase a usb floppy to try to recover, but i believe it won´t work. I have contacted acer centre for models after warranty, and they say if i need they can recover the notebook! But if i can recover with the floppy or the acer centre i will go for a modded bios with slic 2.1 for windows 7 activation. Can you see if this bios have any problem and it was a flashing problem or is this bios with something wrong that have this bad flash.

I have flashed my wife toshiba a200-1gb from yen from windows 64-bit (toshiba 2.1) (ok)
I have flashed my acer 5930g from justinkb from dos (lenovo 2.1) (ok)
It´s my first bad flash. Can you have a look at this bios, because i want to flash dell 2.1 to this notebook again.

Continue the great work.

Hi Busykid508 and Adrpat,

I just tried flashing the bios this morning and got a message in phlash16.exe of "platform signature not found in interface".

I managed to rip the bios from the installer files from benq, and have the actual .ROM file rather than my custom rip if that helps at all?

Here is the bios .ROM from BENQ

thanks for your quick response. Unfortunately, I tried to flash the bios, unfortunately my tablet is bricked. the crisdisk utility failed to install (it said that the minidos.sys was not found). I then tried making a recovery usb following instruction indicated in the link provided. Anyway, because it is a tablet and not a traditional laptop I don't know what, if any, procedures I should follow.

At this point any help would be welcome.

Why are you showing an Emulated Bios in your Tables?

Did you install a loader, patch, cr**k or bios emulator prior to flashing your hard drive with the modified bios?

And I already know the answer.

Find the CRISDISK folder and inside is PHLASH16. Use the information How to Create a Bootable USB Flash Drive to create a flash drive...

If you do not know how to flash a bios, you better get help for you could brck your computer.

The thing is that running "CRISDISK" it want to install to drive.A and i don't have that. My USB Drive is in D: How to change that? I have NO floppy disk.

The thing is that running "CRISDISK" it want to install to drive.A and i don't have that. My USB Drive is in D: How to change that? I have NO floppy disk.

You do not use the directions that are in CRISDISK folder.....just use the PHLASH16 file and then use these directions

Here are the steps of creating a BOOTABLE USB Flash Drive....just remember this will only work if your motherboard supports bootable USB Flash Drives. Check the BIOS Setup to see if the BOOT Sequence will support USB Flash Drive support.

1. Download this file from the following link: http://www.box.net/shared/qo40k21nmy OR http://www.mediafire.com/?0azhxkijzeg OR http://www.mediafire.com/file/0azhxkijzeg/Win98 Boot Image.rar OR http://www.megaupload.com/?d=OXIH0FHP

2. Unrar the file and find the folder HP Disk Storage Format Tool. Install the program.

3. After installing program find the folder called WinImage Winrar File. Unrar the 3 files into this same foder of which you found it.

4. Insert USB Flash Drive into a USB Port.

5. Right click on HP Disk Storage Format Tool on your desktop and RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR.

6. In the HP Disk Storage Tool, make sure the name of the USB Flash Drive is in the DEVICE window.

7. In the HP Disk Storage Tool, choose FAT32 for the file system.

8. In the HP Disk Storage Tool, make sure a Volume Label Appears - if it does not appear, then it is not recognizing your USB flash Drive.

8. In the HP Disk Storage Tool, choose CREATE A DOS START UP DISK. Under USING DOS SYSTEM FILES LOCATED AT, navigate to the folder of where you unrared the 3 WinImage Files as explained in step 3 above and open the folder.

9. Click Start and it will turn the USB Flash Drive into a Bootable USB Flash Drive. Leave your USB Flash Drive in the USB Port - DO NOT REMOVE THE FLASH DRIVE AT THIS POINT.

10. Now, since I do not know what you have for a flash utility from your motherboard website, I can only guess. But if you have a DOS flash Utility, the Modified Bios File and a Autoexc.bat file (this may be missing and is not necessary for all bios), then highlight all 2 - 3 files and right click on it and choose WINRAR - ADD TO ARCHIVE. Give the archive a name and then save the winrar file.

11. Next open the SAVED winrar file with the 2 - 3 files that you rared. Open by right clicking on it and then choose WINRAR - EXTRACT FILES ( Do not choose EXTRACT HERE).

12. When the EXTRACT FILES property window opens, click on the Bootable USB drive in the TREE VIEW of this winrar window to highlight it. Now click OK button and these will extract the 2 - 3 files to your bootable USB Drive. DO NOT COPY AND PASTE these 2 - 3 files to your Bootable USB Flash Drive....these files must be extracted to the bootable USB Flash Drive through an extractor such as winrar rather than copied and pasted. onto the bootable USB Flash Drive.

13. Now you are ready to flash your bios with the modified bios file on your bootable USB Flash Drive.

I haven't flash this BIOS, just after the PHLASH16 BB2A_111.wph /x /s /c /mode=3 I have 2 warnings :

The 1rst one is : " You request to flash the BIOS image without validation, choose y or n ", so I choose yes.

The 2nd one isn't cool : " BIOS file may be corrupt ( cheksum not zero ), choose y or n ", so I choose no, I am afraid to brick my laptop ( in fact, it's my wife laptop, so I am really afraid she kills me if I brick the computer !!! )

Dunno if my post got drowned out by the request-flood or is just being plain ignored.
Either way I'm re-requesting a SLIC upgrade/add of the BIOS for Acer Ferrari 3400 Laptop.
Tried some of the early methods (.rom/bin-swapping with PBE) to no avail, just getting ACPI error.

The request/BIOS details can be found in this post (http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showpost.php?p=96433&postcount=238).

I have done all this and have a recovery Floppy disk. But when i RIGHT CLICK that "Phlash16" all i get is this info "CANNOT FLASH IF MEMORY MANAGERS (e.g. EMM386) PRESENT"
All is there in the attached Picture.

I have done all this and have a recovery Floppy disk. But when i RIGHT CLICK that "Phlash16" all i get is this info "CANNOT FLASH IF MEMORY MANAGERS (e.g. EMM386) PRESENT"
All is there in the attached Picture.

I cannot read your thumbnail picture...it is not that clear...why are you right clicking on PHLASH16?

The memory manager will be bypassed if you type at the command prompt: phlash16 /x bios.wph

Who modified your bios? Was it me?

Sorry but i do this kind of flashing for the first time. Maybe i write this command string in wrong place.

You can change drive letters by clicking Start, then right clicking on My Computer and choosing "Manage Computer" and then click on "Disk Management", click on your Thumb Drive in the list and right click and choose "Change Drive Letter" and set it to B.

OK...Totally hacked off now, I bricked my Sony...No-ones fault but my own...BUT!!!!! ........ Crisdisk does NOT work for sony laptops (unless you're very lucky)...have looked everywhere for clue, stripped the laptop down to unplug cmos battery and still no change...

Key Config of Fn_b, Fn+f, Win+b, Win+F, Either with esc-F1-F2...ect..nothing will kick the external USB drive.

Unless someone knows of the right Key sequence, do not be feeling confident if you have a crisdisk utility cos when its Like mine...its useless.

Laptop switches on, Screen Blank, Power Led on...Hard disk and CD flash momentary and then nothing...press Power button and battery light will flash..thats it...NDA on USB Floppy...(and it works)..

This is no way aimed at the good folks giving their time modding ppl's bios'es..they're doing a great job.

This is aimed at anyone with a sony...BEWARE..CRISDISK....not reliable. I am in no way a cabbage when it comes to this stuff but sometimes a peice of kit just is design in a way to piss us off....SONY is one of them der buggers.

IF anyone does know the correct key sequence then I'll give it ago..(Not the same one's repeated all over the web..they do nothing for my VGN) I'll give ya a hug..otherwise..BE CAREFUL.

Why are you showing an Emulated Bios in your Tables?

Did you install a loader, patch, cr**k or bios emulator prior to flashing your hard drive with the modified bios?

And I already know the answer.

ACPI Table Properties:
ACPI Signature XSDT
Table Description Extended System Description Table
Memory Address Emulated
Table Length 84 bytes
OEM ID DELL
OEM Table ID QA09
Creator ID LTP

But before I flashed I removed the loader for Windows 7 and also used VOATK Tools v.2.5 to remove any others.
How do I know if any loaders are present?

Yes I did precisely as you advised.
However, I would like to bring to your notice that the line "53 20 00 10 ......."
or something like that which identifies 2.1 bios was neither in the original bios nor in the modded one.
Maybe that is the cause..........

Yes I did precisely as you advised.
However, I would like to bring to your notice that the line "53 20 00 10 ......."
or something like that which identifies 2.1 bios was neither in the original bios nor in the modded one.
Maybe that is the cause..........

I modified the bios for the second time...try this one

It is exactly what I told you it was....this belongs to the AMI and Award Bios Request Section.

I have modified dozen and dozens and dozens of ASUS bios and I have never seen an Asus Bios which was Phoenix....it just does not exist...

These 3 bios are AWARD - but because I am a bit bored, I finished modifying them for you using DELL_QA09.BIN SLIC 2.1 and SLP

Asus

Next time take this to the AMI and Award Bios Request Section.

I am very sorry. This Is my first request. "Pheonix Bios" and "Pheonix AwardBios" really confused me. But I have already posted there. But thanks anyway. :)

In the RW 1.3 ACPI TABLE - the RSDT in OEM ID say "DELL " and OEM TABLE ID say "ACRPRDCT" and in the SLIC OEM ID say "DELL " and OEM TABLE ID say "QA09 ", i don´t know if it helps!

Now i went to the control panel, system, and windows activation it say "30 days to activate". I had use slic dump toolkit and normal. The rw 1.3 file after the moded bios flash will be below:

....Give me a few minutes.....:D

EDIT: @RACERPRO

Computer freeze and it even not power on (nothing)?

How to recover if it not power on?

Can somebody have a look a this bios from 911medic for future flash in this notebook with slic 2.1 from DELL...

I have had my Bios modded twice by adrpat (I'm very grateful for the effort) but both attempts were unsuccessful.
First mod gave a 'Checksum not zero error'.
Second mod flashed OK but Slic Dump Toolkit v1.0.8 shows RSDT != Pubkey == Marker
Third time lucky perhaps?
If anyone would like to keep trying, here are the details again:

Motherboard Manufacturer and Model : Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pi 2515
Bios Revision : 1.11c
Bios Type : Phoenix
Bios SLIC : FSC 2.0 at present, would like FUJITSU (FUJ-PC-FUJ) 2.1
