Microsoft Virtual PC network connectivity issues

Hi there,

I have a serious problem regarding the network connectivity in virtual PC.

Here it goes....

I have installed Microsoft Virtual PC in my computer.

Then, I have installed 2 OS (Server 2003 as Server, Server 2003 as member server). then i have created a loop back adapter in both of the OS.

I would like to know that if I can ping the nics from different virtual PC os, how to configure the connectivity?

Do I need to enable NAT in all the Virtual machines or in the host computer?


Please do help me in this regard.

Hi rajuambati,

There are a number of options open to you depending on what you want to achive.
1. Give every Virtual PC a static IP.
Using 'Your PC's' NIC will mean real and virtual PC's can ping each other.
Using the 'Local' NIC means only the virtual PC's can ping each other.

2. Use the 'Local' NIC on all your Virtual PC's and have DHCP running on your Virtual Server. Then setting all other virtual PC's to get their IPs from DHCP.
This gives you a Virtual Network that won't effect your real network.

3. Use 'Shared Networking (NAT)'
This will allow all your PC's real and virtual to ping each other as well as allowing your virtual PC's ineternet access.
BUT...
Virtual PC's NAT settings conflict with Windows 2003.
So you'll have to manually set the default gateway for each of your Windows 2003 PC's to 192.168.131.254
