I get the key in CHina with your sticky. I download from micosoft an ISO of 2008 server but when i install it the key don't work.

Can someone give the link to download the right ISO with the keys plz ?

The keys only work on Standard or Enterprise what edition are you trying to install?

I tried a Full Standard edition :S

But the iso is in French, it's a probleme ?

I download from microsoft an ISO of 2008 server...

The ISO images on Microsoft's website are trial versions. I remember converting the Server 2003 trial versions to retail with a few choice files from a retail disk, but I would not know EXACTLY which files would need to be swapped with Vista or Server 2008 to do the same.

The easiest swap you can try, to accept the English OEM key and activate, would be to swap the pidgenx.dll & pkeyconfig.xrm-ms files which are located inside the SOURCES folder & inside the install.wim.

Even if these work during the setup section of Windows, those two files may need to be swapped inside the WIM image as well as those will be used by Windows, where as the files inside SOURCES, are used by the Windows installer when asked for a key.

You can mount the WIM image, locate the two files and swap them pretty easy. This would be a good time to swap the patched theme dll files, and add the PID.TXT and matching SLIC certificate file inside $OEM$ folder as well.

Once those files are swapped, save changes to the WIM image, then reburn the DVD. You can use vLite to create a bootable DVD ISO of your modfied Windows source files.

After downloading this file which contains all the files & apps you need in the guide below, follow the steps:

Step 1: Extract French Server Standard ISO to a folder using Winrar or UltraISO

Step 2: Swap the pidgenx.dll & pkeyconfig.xrm-ms files inside the SOURCES folder with files supplied in download.

Step 3: Add PID.TXT and $OEM$ folder inside the SOURCES folder. Once the $OEM$ folder has been copied to the SOURCES folder browse to the last subfolder named "Oem" and copy the XRM-MS certificate file that matches your OEM SLIC in the bios.
Collection of cert files are included.

Step 4: Mount install.wim file, that is inside SOURCES, with supplied GUI WIM mounter app, & swap the same files above in the locations below:

Swap pidgenx.dll inside folder: System32
Swap pkeyconfig.xrm-ms inside folder : System32\licensing\pkeyconfig\
Swap patched theme files inside folder: System32

Step 5: Save changes to modified WIM image

Step 6: Launch vLite and use it to create a bootable ISO of your modified setup.

Burn modified ISO & test.

You don't to replace "those files" in Vista / Server2008 images. :)

The "Retail/OEM" images are exactly the same.
The "Trial" image has the "Time Bomb" in it, which is disabled if/when you use a "Retail/OEM" key.

The "Vol" image is different again, due to the way the "VLK" activates with its server. But I don't know enough about this process to advise on it.

That is why I said that I wasnt sure which files if any would need be changed because I havnt tested any of the trial versions, but he said the OEM key wouldnt take during setup which made me think they use a different BINK in the French version files so swapping an English pidgenx.dll, etc should allow it to accept the key.

Using the English ISO and a language pack is to easy.. lol

Yeah, I would look for a non trail version on a torrent site, but if you do download the English trial version let us know if it accepts the key.

i think if that doesn't work with french trial version, that doesn't work with english trial version

I also think that if it does not work with the french version, it probably wont work with english version

I am not sure where your project went wrong.....

I just tested the procedure.....

Got a server 2008 image form the MS site mentioned in the Get free key thread page 2.
From the image names I think these are actually Retail images. (FRE Full Retail?)
Dont trust my memory a 100% on that though....

Installed it within a vm.
Handed it a key from the procedure mentioned in that same thread.
It took the key with no problem.

I selected an English x64 image but dont think that makes any difference at all.....

Think the MAK keys are language and proc-arc neutral

well the procedure is simple download and version of server 2008 standard or enterprise ,let it be the trial or vlk just install it without any key .
once installed then enter key and i think u know where
control panel> systems
finally activate it will be done
have tried this on trial and vlk both got activated and to be more specific have tried on english version and i dont think there should be problem with french version either .
you dont have to modfy any damm files and i have tried this on actual hardware and virtual pc.

I just downloaded the eng x64 enterprise trial iso, it doesn't accept the these key.

tried nik_boom's method, it works. I used the trial iso that I downloaded from microsoft to perform the installation. When it ask for a cdkey, don't enter anything and click next to continue. after installation is finish, I just click change product key and enter the key I got.

After install open a command prompt (Right click -> Run as administrator)
Type:
slmgr -ipk 12345-12345-12345-12345-12345 (numbers of course being your key)
Hit enter and wait awhile untill it reports back. Might take some time.
If ready to activate type:
slmgr -ato
Hit enter and wait awhile again.
Now you should be done.

Otherwise you can use the GUI version of the procedure from system properties (Change key) but be aware that method does it all in one workflow (change key+ activate)

for me the hardest in getting a key is to generate another Live ID account. So, I can help you Agate7 if you create 2 Live IDs for 1 key, 4 Live IDs for 2 keys. Does this sound good to you, Agate7 ?

If yes, then create 2 Live IDs per hotkey, pm me username+password, I'll generate a key or two, and pm them to you.

yeah, works fine just dont try and put the key in during install.

another trick i highely recomend backup the tokens.dat, you can use this to allow you to activate with the same key on multi systems

safe mode, go over, copy the tokens data you backed up to replace the orignal restart put key in, done :D

depends on the tokens.dat that you use, if don't use a server based one then you will brick your server and won't be able to install any roles on it.
