Hi. I just updated the BIOS, installed Vista Ultimate, installed asus.xrm-ms, and installed the OEM key, but I'm still getting "30 Days Left" notice. Is anyone else having this problem lately?
Phrunt, I appreciate your help with the BIOS update!

that's very odd as another guy had success with that same bios a few days ago... get yourself everest, click on motherboard, click on acpi, and check that your root system description table says says _ASUS_ and Notebook and check your have a software licensing description table saying the same things. Also, how did you flash? and did you disable UAC before trying to install asusxrm and the key?

Yes, Vista Ultimate did say it was activated at first, and I am able to dump the BIOS using the OEM BIOS Emulation Toolkit, so I'm sure that the SLIC is there. But after I restarted the computer after updates, the "30 day" notification came up. Do you know if there was an update to ASUS.xrm-ms? Or do you know why in the world that would happen?
Oh, and also:
1.) Yes, UAC was turned off
2.) OEM ID does say "_ASUS_"
3.) OEM Table ID does say "Notebook"
Could installing certain drivers cause this to happen (since Microsoft requires you to reactivate if you make a *significant change to the system)?
Update: I tried "SLMGR.VBS -ato" and it says "Error: Product activation failed."
WSH:
Software licensing service version: 6.0.6000.16386
Partial Product Key: 932CC

you've got me stumped as by the looks of things the bios has done its job.
actually there is a bug in vista that could be related to your problem
SYMPTOMS
You may be prompted to activate Windows Vista on a computer on which Windows Vista activation was not previously required. For example, this problem may occur on a computer where Windows Vista was preinstalled by an OEM or by using a Volume Licensing installation. The problem does not occur on Retail versions of Windows Vista. For example, the problem does not occur if you purchased Windows Vista and installed the operating system on a computer yourself.
Although this problem rarely occurs, it may occur during typical use of a Windows Vista-based computer.

Hello. I searched through the thread for Sony Vaio VGN-FZ190 BIOS mod, but I haven't found anything. I just wanted to check with the "BIOS mod gods" here in this thread to see if it's been done before. If not, what's the best way to extract the BIOS? Sony website does not have anything related to the BIOS on their website. Thank you in advance!

Bios SLIC version needed= DELL if possible: Above board is going into a DELL as a replacement for a defective motherboard. Friend replaced unit, had it sitting around- I asked for the unit...
PS: If the ASUS and HP SLIC version(s) could be made in addition to a DELL version, it would be appreciated as I have no OEM Dell disc at present.
EDIT: - I just read in another thread that there are no editors for Intel Bioses? If so I'm assuming any editing will be had to be done manually via hex-editing, right?

Thanks for the heads up. I read that somewhere else, too. What do I have to do to get Vista x64 Ultimate to activate with this? A different serial? I tried two copies of the Asus license file but no luck. Haven't tried it with x86 yet, but I'm about to build an x86 disc and I'll let you know the result.

No, it doesn't appear to have.

I reflashed the BIOS just in case I flashed the wrong file but it's still confirmed not present in Everest.
BTW, I noticed when I tested both your modded 1.0M and the earlier modded 1.0K that when flashing 1.0M there are two chunks of the BIOS which aren't overwritten whereas with 1.0K there is only the first chunk, the second chunk was overwritten.

Ok, Best repost your request and we'll see if China4ever or Fzeven can mod it for you, I can't work out where i've gone wrong. But how you said the chunks not overwritten stuff, that could perhaps be the boot block not being updated, your flash program should have a /switch to update bootblock?

That's possible, although I used the same version of DOS flash program to flash each time with only specifying the BIOS file as a parameter, but it's worth a look. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll check that out and repost if that works or not, and repost a request if necessary.

I'm sorry to report that I couldn't get either of these modded BIOSes to work. The SLIC wouldn't show up in Phrunt's using Everest at all. It did show up in Fzeven's, but no matter what I tried I couldn't get Vista activated; even using the /Wb switch to write the bootblock area of the BIOS. I went back to using the existing mod for BIOS v1.0K, which works immediately.
It's not that important, but it's frustrating to not know the reason why something doesn't work. Is there anything else you guys want me to try or information to give?
Anyone have any ideas? China4Ever??? :)

Yes, I imported the Asus certificate several times. Believe me, I tried this so many times, flashing and reflashing, changing Ultimate keys, installing Everest, even restoring a backup with Acronis True Image Workstation.
I will reflash your BIOS and make the screenshots and get back to you. Do you want a screenshot of both your BIOS and the 1.0K that's working?

I'm excited, I think I found the issue with the v1.0M mod.
See the "K" preceding "_ASUS" in OEM ID instead of it being "_ASUS_", and OEM Table ID is "_Noteboo" instead of "Notebook", so there's a mistaken offset or something.
I must've looked at this screen too fast last time.

Fzeven it does the same thing does not boot just sits there with the flashing curser. I am at a loss for what to do next. It's like as if the boot portion is messed up or something but thats not my expertise.
How did you flash it?

I'm excited, I think I found the issue with the v1.0M mod.
See the "K" preceding "_ASUS" in OEM ID instead of it being "_ASUS_", and OEM Table ID is "_Noteboo" instead of "Notebook", so there's a mistaken offset or something.
I must've looked at this screen too fast last time.

How did you flash it?
I used award flash v.1.16 from asus and command was awdflash k8n4-e.bin . That's the same way to flash the normal bios update. There is the normal 2 bytes that don't flash in the middle on the last line. I think that's the boot block isn't it?

I humbly request the oem mod for the following BIOS:
-Motherboard Manufacturer and Model: ASUS-K8N
-Bios Version: 1011
-Bios Type: AMI (i believe)
-Bios Link: http://dlsvr01.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/sock754/K8N/K8n1011.zip
Thanks in advance.
Quick question: is there a safe method to know if the modded bios works fine? i'd hate experiencing data corruption on my disks or something like that after awhile.. thanks again to all who help here for dealing with newbs like me :D

Another "Working Mod" reply to an old post...
Just decided to dabble with Vista on my main PC, searched the forum and found a bios for the Abit AW9D-MAX. Feeling a bit uneasy about this going wrong, I bite the bullet and flashed the bios...... After a long pause (thinking oh <censord> its killed the board), a beep was heard and my screen showed the Logo! :)
The link to that post is : http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showpost.php?p=1564&postcount=1333
And I can say, Well Done!
Vista Activated (Ultimate). Works like a charm. Many thanks.:D
Thanks go to Xbioses, China4Ever, Yen, Phrunt and all the modders i have missed, you all are a great help and it is most appreciated. Keep up the good work!!
When I can find a link to a bios for a E-System 3089UK laptop I will post a request. I may have to see if i can save the current bios from it as i cannot find any links or even drivers. I know it a Dixons Cheapo Laptop, unsure who it is actually made by!

I was wondering what is the best procedure for flashing these phoenix BIOS's It seems that myself as well as a few other members here seem to be having issues with. Is there a good tutorial somewhere, or does a filename need to be changed/moved etc. The only reason i chose to chime in is because I've tried all of the mods that have been posted for these Acer laptops from the one that jimmyrollins asked for until now with no success, in Vista or DOS. Sorry for such a long Post. Peace

Fzeven i figured it out i have a weird M/B that only works with bios version 1003. I tried the modded bios on my other system ( same board ) and it works great. This one i put every bios from asus ans only 1003 works and lets it boot my O/S.
Edit i got it working by disabling everything and then re enabling things 1 at a time in the bios. It came down to my raid HDD if i unhook it it will boot great and activate Vista. If i hook it back up i get no boot :( so i'll have to convert it to IDE or get a SATA card. Oh well it's activated and work great.
Thanks to everyone doing this hard work for us,

-Bios revision: F5h (beta)
-Bios Type: AWARD
-Bios Link: self uploaded (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=73CDWLPO)
Bios version F4 works like a charm, but there are serveral problems with Standby function and PS2 compatibility. And if this isn't enogh, the final version F5 should have problems with memeory timing.
Thats the reason for requesting F5 (the final one) and F5h (the beta before, without timing problems).
Maxbe you could help me again?

I have successfully had the older 0602 working on my old board (which has since died a magic smokey death) and been replaced. Do not know the revision of the old board, but the new one is 1.01G. After flashing with 0602 my new board fails to POST. I have also had 0616beta modified by someone I know from here successfully working on my old board. Same deal no POST on the new one. It will boot after CMOS reset with overclock fail, however after saving even default settings and rebooting no POST.
I have managed to resurect it both times by resetting the CMOS and using ezflash from within the BIOS to reflash them back to official revisions as the "Press F2 to continue" option does nothing, only the "Press F1 to enter setup" works.
Any clues to why this might have happened?

Hi there again!
Great work you've done here...
Got another Mainboard an so other Biose:
-Motherboard Manufacturer and Model: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P Rev 1.0 (Biose for all Rev!)
-Bios revision: F5
-Bios Type: AWARD
-Bios Links: self uploaded (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=35V4OAU6), Gigabyte Asia (China) (http://china.giga-byte.com/FileList/BIOS/motherboard_bios_ga-p35-ds3p_f5.exe), Gigabyte Asia (http://asia.giga-byte.com/FileList/BIOS/motherboard_bios_ga-p35-ds3p_f5.exe), Gigabyte America (http://america.giga-byte.com/FileList/BIOS/motherboard_bios_ga-p35-ds3p_f5.exe), Gigabyte Europe (http://europe.giga-byte.com/FileList/BIOS/motherboard_bios_ga-p35-ds3p_f5.exe)
and...
-Motherboard Manufacturer and Model: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P Rev 1.0 (Biose for all Rev!)
Thanks alot in advance!
sincerely yours
Gunnar

Fzeven i figured it out i have a weird M/B that only works with bios version 1003. I tried the modded bios on my other system ( same board ) and it works great. This one i put every bios from asus ans only 1003 works and lets it boot my O/S.
Edit i got it working by disabling everything and then re enabling things 1 at a time in the bios. It came down to my raid HDD if i unhook it it will boot great and activate Vista. If i hook it back up i get no boot :( so i'll have to convert it to IDE or get a SATA card. Oh well it's activated and work great.
Thanks to everyone doing this hard work for us,
James
Glad you worked it out.:)

Hey Bensun,
I'm not sure why, they must of changed something but its rather odd...
I'll do you two different types of mods and also supply a different afudos
which will most likely allow it to work. Make sure you flash with the supplied batch files. It doesn't make any sense why changing the board would effect anything as its using the same bios. Use one from stock to test it if you want :>

I can't explain your problem but we tested the FC Mod in this set and it worked fine.
Okay it was the newer AFUDOS that was causing the problem. After flashing with the older one it has now done the trick and its all working fine with the FCMod rom:D
Was very very VERY weird after flashing it with the new one, I had to reset cmos over and over and over sometimes 10 times before it'd POST again. Even after getting it to POST and flashing back to a genuine Asus BIOS it took many CMOS resets for it to go again.
Older AFUDOS worked first time, POSTed first go.
Just glad I finally got it sorted!
