Hello all,

I recently purchased a new laptop with an MS-171A Motherboard, and it came with Vista on it. Not thinking anything of it, I wiped it clean, partitioned, and installed Linux and Win. XP on the machine. Since then I've had nothing but problems, and last night i think I finally found the problem.

(From http://www.msimobile.com/NBfaq.aspx)

Q: Can I install XP on the MS-171A? Where can I download the XP drivers?
A: No, MS-171A is not compliant with XP. There is no XP drivers for it.

Now my question is, what exactly do they mean by "not compliant"? I'm sitting here running Win. XP, and it's working except for the problem of my processor running at less than half it's max speed. (It's 1.8Ghz, and it will not run any faster than 800mhz.) I've gone into the BIOS and for some reason, maybe I'm just a complete idiot, but there is nowhere to edit anything related to the CPU. It has all the system information listed, and it even says it's running at 0.80Ghz, max 1.8Ghz. But I can't edit anything other than basic start-up options and whatnot.

Here's the following information about my BIOS, from unicore.com

BIOS Type: AMI
BIOS Date: July 25th 2007
BIOS ID: 63-10G-0000010-00101111-072507-ATHLON64
BIOS OEM: BIOS Date: 07/25/07 15:28:02 Ver: 08.00.14 - A171AAG6 V1.0G
Chipset: Athlon 1100 rev 0
SuperIO: NSC 332 rev 8 at port 004E
Manufacturer: Micro-Star International
Motherboard: MSI NOTEBOOK GX710
OS: Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2.0
Maximum Memory: 8192MB
Installed Memory: 2048MB
Memory Config: Slot1:1024 Slot2:1024

Any ideas or fixes would be really appreciated. I really don't want to re-install Vista, but if that's what it comes to, then I suppose i'll have to.

Thanks in advance.
