View Full Version : Question about AMI BIOS VIRTUAL PC

I'm trying to patch Virtual PC AMI BIOS.
I extracted Module 06 that contains DMI info.

There are a lot of info that i can modify. What are the exact point where put for example the "AcerSystem " label?

If i Replace "Microsoft Corp.." label with AcerSystem then Everest and Vista don't detect the mainboard correctly.
There is only one space avaiable "Filled by O.E.M.". It could be the right one?

Thx.

alex iv'e uploaded mmtool 2.21 to link below this is the only program that will mod virtual pc bios once youve extracted it there is pdf document there also sorry its in chinese i had english pdf but cant find it at the moment sorry hope this helps
http://rapidshare.com/files/74815464/MMTool-Lite_2.22.1.rar.html

virtual pc bios is quite easy to mod load the bios file in archive into mmtool2.22.1 and extract 06 module in uncompressed format and have a look in a hex editor you will see mods done allready :))

tnx very usefull.
i have understand that the OEM string must be inside DMI on whichever position except where there is the "Microsoft corp.." (otherwise everest and vista don't detect the right motherboard driver!).
So the mechanism of SLP 1 is check only the presence of a string inside a range. is it Right?

SLP1.0 checks the presence of a string at a special range, yes.
It depends on the OEM what string and where ecxactly. Some of them are outside of the DMI area.

I have read it... and i understand it.
One one thing i dont' understand...why in oembios.net site there are a lot of duplicate names (es: "AcerSystem ","AcerSystem ")?

The way to be a bios guru is very long...;)
Tnx

DMI editing happens in real-time in most cases, and he just said that the only tool that will work for virtual pc is mmtool.

Download MMTool ive posted above from rapidshare there is PDF file in archive showing method, you dont flash Virtual Bios through dos you need to extract the bios from vitrual PC exe itself using an resource editor then edit the bios file in MMTool v2.22.1 it is only version that will edit Virtual PC bios.

Is there a way to insert the Vista SLP2 inside the BIOS?

http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showthread.php?t=373

the easy auto method doesn't work on the 256kb oembios.bin.

so sorry I should have done a search before asking. I found someone who posted a hacked vpc exe with slic bios. However, that one does not have slp for xp. I'm trying to combine the slp and slic together. XP SLP works. Testing Vista SLIC now. :o

Thanks to the guide in this post http://forums.mydigitallife.info/showpost.php?p=34319&postcount=2, I managed to add SLIC 2.1 to the BIOS for both Virtual PC 2007 SP1 (v6.0.192.0) and Virtual Server 2005 R2 SP1 + Update KB956124 (v1.1.653.0). Actually, both share the same BIOS.

Shut down all VMs, quit Virtual PC or stop Virtual Server service and then replace "Virtual PC.exe" or "VSSrvc.exe".
Since I only have x86 Virtual Server environment, I can't test the others for now. Let me know if they don't work. Have fun!

replace C:\Windows\System32\vpc.exe

Running Windows 7 x64, it keeps giving me access denied (with UAC and without). I even took ownership of vpc.exe and system32 folder. Can you describe how to do this?

Thanks.

Never mind. I got it to work. Just in case anyone experienced the same problem.. here's what you need to do:

Run cmd as Administrator
Type: takeown /f %windir%\System32\vpc.exe
Type: cacls %windir%\System32\vpc.exe /G %username%:F
Now you can copy over the new vpc.exe.

Or just use this (http://www.howtogeek.com/downloads/TakeOwnership.zip)

I have a 64 Bit Win 7 Ultimate host running on a Bios modded pc. Downloaded the Microsoft Virtual PC, changed the VPC.EXE with the Slic 2.1 modded file listed above.

Created a Win 7 32 Bit OS Virtual Machine. Works great. Shows activated after I applied the certifcate and entered the Key inside the Virtual Machine.

Now I am also trying to create a 64 Bit Win 7 Virtual Machine and as soon as the OS Setup Starts, I get the error that it is not possible as I am trying to install a 64 Bit OS on a 32 Bit only capable machine. What is this????

Is it not possible or I am doing something wrong???

Thx

Virtual PC 2007 doesn's support x64 Virtual machines ... I know it sux

zzingy

Yeah Sux. Although I have the MS Virtual PC (the one that comes with Win 7) and not VPC 2007, looks like the same friggin issue.

Will Virtual Box or VMWare support it??

Thx

x64 is not a problem on Vmware, as long as your processor support Virtualization & you have the option to turn it ON in BIOS

Virtual PC 2007 doesn's support x64 Virtual machines ... I know it sux there are two versions of MS virtual PC 2007 x86 and x64

oscill8r
09-27-2009, 10:12 AM
Indeed .. but this just provides x64 drivers ... neither version supports x64 VM guests ... as stated use one of the other VM products if you need a x64 VM.

Windows 7 VPC also only supports x86 VM guests

Has anyone modded the x64 vpc.exe for the RTM version of VirtualPC? I have been trying to open vpc.exe with ResHack but it does not display the treeview. I must be doing something wrong?

**EDIT**

Nevermind I figured it out. Here is VPC.exe x64 RTM with DELL SLIC2.1
